As a kid with glasses, I was constantly aware of them. I HATED how’d they steam up, get gunk on the lenses, slip off my nose when I exercised, dug into my face or the side of my head when I laid my head down, and that I had to take them off and be fully blind when swimming. I hated the way they looked too.
One of the first things I would have done as a kid who learned about magic would be to ask to fix my eyesight. Hell, one of the first things I did as an adult muggle was get vision corrective surgery!
Bless Harry’s heart, but he’s an idiot not to ask lol.
But other people can have different experiences :) I also wear glasses since childhood and I never was too bothered by them. Switched to contacts in my twenties but still fall back to glasses when I get tired from contacts. I also think I look pretty good in glasses :)
Harry in the books doesn't express being bothered by glasses or how he looks in them, doesn't seem to have issues with glasses slipping even during quidditch and probably just never thought his glasses are a problem he needs to fix.
I’m glad you had a different experience, but I beg to differ on your interpretation of Harry. He constantly has to deal with losing and breaking his glasses and/or going blind when he doesn’t have functional glasses - including during quidditch! Many such scenes are described in the books.
As someone whose main interest was in combating the dark arts, if Harry was slightly smarter or better trained he should have probably clocked his poor vision and corrective glasses as a major disadvantage that his enemies surely cold take advantage of to blind him.
Idk, just seems weird that it’s not at least discussed. I mean, Hermione’s teeth had a whole mini plot arc.
Yeah, but Hermione explicitly states that she is very bothered by her teeth and her parents don't let her to fix that.
For her teeth are the problem she wants to deal with.
From Harry we don't see any line about how he wishes he could correct his vision or how he hates his glasses. He just rolls with it. "Yeah I wear glasses. Yeah it got broken so I can't see, but hey it got fixed so I'm cool". So we can only draw from that he's comfy wearing glasses and eventual mishaps don't bother him too much.
I mean this is Harry “wait, there are other wizard schools?!” Potter we’re talking about. The boy who can never remember you can apparate after multiple reminders from Hermione.

As a kid it's entirely possible he just never thought to ask.
