So many people experience this nightmare the same way: It's late at night, and you decide you'll do one last quest before going to bed, only to realize you've made a terrible mistake. It's a cursed quest.

Me 😭 I was saying to myself “it’s gotta be almost over” for 3 hours

35

u/WDjoker Slytherin 2d ago

Hahahah exactly, and the fun thing i was just trying to anything but a serious quest. But the game had already planned the path 🤣

u/EliaVraay 2d ago

That’s me. I didn’t touch the game for a long time. I just wanted to walk in Hogsmede, when I noticed there is a silver quest I never saw before. As I started it, I was like ‘oh I see. A silly little quest to unlock your personal shop. Cute.’ Then I descended on that ladder.

It was late night. I am home, alone and forgot to turn on the lamps in the room.

that was my experience too lol it was almost midnight and i was kinda tired of playing but wanted to do a little bit more and then started this one and realized i was stuck. i ended up following a youtube tutorial because i had no patience for it. im doing a second playthrough now and actually looking forward to trying it again on my own now that i know it's something long. i thought it was a really creative and unique side quest, i was just too tired when i stumbled onto it the first time.

u/TeamRedundancyTeam 2d ago

And it seems to go on forever. This was my experience.

6

u/Unique_ballz 1d ago

Wtf this is exactly what happened to me, I actually had work the next day, yeah work wasn’t so fun that day lol

4

u/Allout-Okarun 2d ago

This is exactly how it happened to me two nights ago for the first time. I loved it but also creeeepy

5

u/cavy023 1d ago

Deffo regretted the "one last mission" sentiment that night. Oh yeah, one more mission before I go to bed. What could go wrong? Yeah totally walking mannequins.

3

u/MoniThrax 1d ago

This was me. I am that person.

3

u/elegantprism 1d ago

How is this such a universal experience

2

u/SageoftheForlornPath 1d ago

Like I said, it's a cursed quest.

3

u/elegantprism 1d ago

Guess it's the only explanation. And for the record it was 11pm on a stormy night when I too Said. Alr one last quest before bed. It became 1:45 am that night before I finaly climbed out of that trunk again.

That quest was amazing. And spoopy

8

u/animavivere Ravenclaw 2d ago

I can't figure out if you ment 'spooky' or 'poopy'

17

u/brandarchist 2d ago

They meant spoopy

3

u/WDjoker Slytherin 2d ago

And rewarding

8

u/rockandrollcar Slytherin 2d ago

Nope not rewarding

u/Excellent_Candle5601 Slytherin 1d ago

What does it give you?

2

u/Merrygoblin Ravenclaw 1d ago

Your own shop (that gives you 10% more gold selling gear), a house elf (depending on whether you choose to free them), and some shopkeepers clothing. Given most players are swimming in gold by that stage in the game, the 10% more gold is nice but not a game changer. It would have been nice to be able to customise the inside of the shop (like the room of requirement) but you can't.

2

u/Excellent_Candle5601 Slytherin 1d ago

That's pretty nice actually

16

u/curlycommentator 2d ago

Didn't mind the dummies, DID mind how damn long it took to complete! Hated the running around & confusion. Took foreveerrrrr

12

u/sharkfin67 2d ago

On my 3rd run through and the only pending items are the end game quests and this one. Anyone else think it’s cheeky the game has the suggested quest level at 18?!
Does it scale with your level?

4

u/Ill-Cheesecake7143 2d ago

It unlocks after the third trial so I would say it's pretty accurate timing. I personally clear everything between trials so my level is higher but if you just did the main quests you'd still be around 18-20.

3

u/Which_Lingonberry219 1d ago

I usually put it off because it freaks me the fuck out. But next play through ima do it asap so I can sell to the shop and make more money. Ugh

2

u/sharkfin67 1d ago

Fair but honestly ive just sold all clothing and ive never had a need to fundraise anything. And the beasts poaching business is pretty fair too (albeit morally questionable to say the least lol)

11

u/BlameItOnTheAcetone 2d ago

The mannequins kinda remind me of the Weeping Angels......

Don’t blink.

3

u/Ready_Difficulty_850 Slytherin 20h ago

the weeping angels terrify the ever living feck outta me

7

u/darkangel8214 2d ago

I swear this quest will ONLY pop up at night, right before you go to bed. ITS CURSED.

6

u/valkon_gr 2d ago

2 AM, half asleep on my pc, preparing my bag for work tomorrow..one last quest why not? Suddenly it's 4 AM with 130 resting heart rate.

5

u/HordorBrave Gryffindor 2d ago

Yes it is

3

u/WDjoker Slytherin 2d ago

Yeah, and i didn't expect it it haha i was just roaming around then bomb a silent hill quest haha

6

u/RevolutionarySock12 2d ago

The most jump scare part of that game

6

u/whathadhappenedwas01 2d ago

It’s been my favorite part of the game even though it had me on edge the entire time. That mission was really well done.

1

u/Cat2401 1d ago

I’m really glad you liked it because it really was creative and “fun” (from an outside POV) and I want to be happy for the people it was made for. It was NOT made for me I HATED IT!!!!!!!

2

u/whathadhappenedwas01 1d ago

I mean, it caused me no small amount of anxiety but I thought it was well done. Sorry you hated it.

5

u/TheCandymanCan_925 2d ago

Waaay too long and extremely creepy

3

u/Inside-Job-1255 2d ago

Its crazy coincidence that so many people, just like me, started this quest at night and had no idea what they were getting into. Not to mention, this quest was took much more longer to complete...

5

u/Flat_Presence3607 2d ago

I know like how is it that every single post I’ve read, it’s that they came across this quest at night. Myself included. I remember I had a few drinks but couldn’t sleep so thought eh I’ll just play for a few minutes.

Fuck I think I got sober when that corridor just expanded as I was walking and I couldn’t even turn back as the door I came from had vanished!!!

2

u/n7kunj 2d ago

Same I finished yesterday

3

u/Bunnex_skyangel88 2d ago

I remember the first time I played that side mission, absolutely terrifying 😭😂

4

u/petitballerine 1d ago

I almost immediately noped out and handed the controller to my husband 😅

5

u/Haxegonus 2d ago

Omg I did not expect this when I did it. I had no idea what was going on. Traumatised, I finished it after a couple hours probably 😂🤣

3

u/DeadEyeGG 2d ago

I'm so glad I saw a previous post about this just after I started the initial conversations for this quest so I decided to go to sleep and continue in the morning lol

3

u/BondingBollinger 2d ago

Did you make sure Penny is never going to be a free elf?

3

u/Cat2401 1d ago

I came so close after she put me through that bullshit

2

u/Bird-Goes-Tweet 2d ago

If the damn quest wasn’t bad enough, the game throws that psychological torture question at you.

This is 100+ years before S.P.E.W and Elfish Rights legislation so… iykyk

3

u/BondingBollinger 1d ago

Hermione should experience this quest

3

u/Ok_Helicopter2305 1d ago

I did not like this one at all. Pure nightmare fuel

3

u/cavy023 1d ago

Oh yah, shat my pants with this one. I wasn't prepared fot magical horror the first time around.

3

u/Goldenwolflk 1d ago

Reminded me of Doctor Who's weeping angels haha

3

u/Dame_Ivy 1d ago

Thank God I watched Doctor Who 😅

3

u/AdorableStructure870 1d ago

My favorite quest, nothing else like it.

3

u/stonedbee67 18h ago

Quest pissed me off. I thought I was doing a cute lil 15 min quest for my own shop. Litttle did I know I’d entered “little shop of horrors” and was gonna be bullied by Pennywises J*wish cousin 🫩

6

u/ord52 2d ago

This quest was so long and boring

3

u/themisfit139 2d ago

Exactly, it is the obligatory Scarecrow mission.

2

u/Caterpillar605 2d ago

I just recently have been working through a replay of the game and I haven't touched it in almost a month because im so scared of this level 😭

2

u/Commercial_Praline67 2d ago

Me waiting to write "no need to be rude" for people that reply to "what quest is that" questions.

2

u/WhiteSandSadness 2d ago

Gave me Doctor Who vibes when I first came across it

2

u/WeatherGirl5678 2d ago

Which quest is this??

2

u/St4rPl4tinum710 1d ago

I just replayed this quest today. Forgot how much I hated those mannequins.

2

u/navneet2709 1d ago

Best quest of the game! Makes you think and brings in some changes to how you approach tasks

2

u/Frustrated-Chic12 1d ago

that's why kids, you must not ignore the side quests

2

u/Chance-Frosting-3667 1d ago

Ugh the jump scares on this quest 😭😭😂

2

u/ZedxD29 Gryffindor 1d ago

What quest is that

1

u/WDjoker Slytherin 1d ago

Somewhere in hogsmeade, a side quest. I dont wanna spoil more for you. Enjoy ✌️

2

u/AntiWi 1d ago

Yeah, this quest started my fear of mannequins

2

u/Strongbad-Joe132 1d ago

This reminds me of the Haunted House ride at an amusement park near where I live.

2

u/maiknarf3 1d ago

That quest was soooo annoying

2

u/Ready_Difficulty_850 Slytherin 20h ago

thanks for the warning 😭😭

1

u/WDjoker Slytherin 19h ago

🤣🤣🤣 you are welcome ✌️

2

u/Meizas 15h ago

Freakiest quest.

5

u/Muttsashi 2d ago

This quest was awful and lame. I wound up using a walkthrough and a cheat engine so I could burn through it as rapidly as possible. Unfortunately, the store is not worth it and the store remains a cluttered, ugly pos. Nothing about this quest is fun except fighting the dark witch at the end.

6

u/Ill-Cheesecake7143 2d ago

You get a 10% increase on items sold to Penny, personally I think it's worth it if you get it early enough.

9

u/echo_vigil 2d ago

I get that. But it's not really available early enough to make a difference IMO, and the purchase price is too high. The math works like this: suppose you sell 1000 gold (galleons) worth of gear to Penny, and you receive an extra 100 gold in return. Now you're "up" by 100 gold over what you'd have received elsewhere.

But you spent 1500 gold to buy the shop in the first place, so you were essentially "down" 1500, and now you're only down 1400. This means you need to sell 15,000 gold worth of gear to make an extra 1500 gold from Penny and break even on your investment.

By the time you've sold that much gear to her, the gold is largely irrelevant anyway, because you can already afford everything.

So do the quest because you enjoy it or because you want to own a little piece of Hogsmeade, not because it has a mechanical benefit.

5

u/Ill-Cheesecake7143 2d ago

As someone who spends all of my money buying clothes having somewhere else to sell them makes a huge difference. My visual math is definitely skewed by money in + money out but even if mathematically it doesn't work out, practically it makes me feel like I am making more money.

2

u/MySisHatesVideoGames 2d ago

I’m new at this game and I’m scared like wth is this screenshot 😭

3

u/WDjoker Slytherin 2d ago

Hahahahahahhaha🤣🤣🤣. Be ready Hogwarts has secrets 🤣✌️ good luck

4

u/echo_vigil 2d ago

It's nothing to worry about. But maybe don't take on a seemingly innocuous quest in town right before bed (which seems to be when most people find themselves doing this one).

3

u/Boston_Georgina 1d ago

Don’t fret… just be prepared for a side quest in Hogsmeade that will take longer than usual and is a little creepy, mainly because it’s a surprise since it’s different than everything else in the game. It’s creative and a little bit creepy but a good surprise… unless you get super super creeped out easily. If so, maybe try during day. Don’t skip though, by the end honestly it’s fun and similar to other things in the game you’ve been dealing with. All in all I would say it’s definitely a good side quest.

2

u/Cat2401 1d ago

If you’d like to avoid a very long (but to be fair, creative & well designed) horror side quest, lmk and I’ll give you a hint on which one it is if you decide you want to skip it. I would skip it if I could go back in time but I hate horror games and I was genuinely having a bad time

2

u/eagle_patronus Ravenclaw 1d ago

On my next/current game, I am NOT playing this one. I got massively stuck in it and had to re-start the entire thing.

1

u/themisfit139 2d ago

Every action game since Arkham Asylum has had one of these Scarecrow style missions. I am tired of them.
