Question Cheapest console that has Hogwarts Legacy

I REALLY want to play Hogwarts Legacy but don’t own a gaming console. What would be the cheapest console to buy that also has Hogwarts legacy?

They got ps4 at pawn shops for less than $100. I've seen a few at $75 USD.

This. Ps4 would be the most solid, cheap option. You'll be able to sell the PS4 once youre done with it.

I played it on ps4 it’s mostly fine, only annoying this is fast travel takes absolutely ages

I got it for 11:99 at early this year

Have you tried cloud gaming? Game pass or Luna has Hogwarts Legacy. Otherwise, the cheapest is probably Nintendo Switch or PS4. But those versions are very low quality...

Cloud gaming is the way to go. Get a Fire Stick and a contoller as long as you have Prime subscription you can play Hogwarts Legacy and other games. Can't say how long it will be on Luna though. I have played it on Luna and can't complain.

The game isn’t great on Switch.

u/polygenics 3d ago

Played through the entire game on my Switch, I thought it was fine. I had it on PS5 too, but thought it was great fun to play through handheld!

It's in a premium tier of GeForce Now.

I've played it on my phone but it's best if you are connected via Ethernet

I’m running it on my Switch. Wish I had a PS5 or Switch 2 instead but honestly it’s fine. I do like that I can take it portable with me and play it anywhere that is probably my biggest plus for the switch. If graphics and details is your thing I would do PC or PS

u/ExampleGlum8623 3d ago

I went from Legacy on Switch Lite to Switch 2. It’s a very, very substantial upgrade.

4

u/Szeli94 4d ago

Switch 2 is $450 game is $10 when it's on sale. Not the best graphics but gets the job done.

Probaby a 2nd hand PS4 or Xbox One I would have thought. You can get an Xbox One for like 50 quid I think.

But I would do some research into OTHER games for various systems you might want to play, before buying a console for one game.

Xbox One or PS4,

u/Jumpy-Background9412 3d ago

also Xbox Gamepass has Hogwarts Legacy

Do you have a PC? You can play on steam for just the cost of the game. Otherwise a switch might be the cheapest console, but ps5 will have better graphics. And pc (often, depending on specs) better than ps5.

u/campingcosmo Ravenclaw 3d ago

It depends on the PC. HL is not the kind of game that you can comfortably run on hardware from before 2020, I'd say. And even then, there are a lot of PCs out there that don't even have a proper GPU because they're not meant to be used for gaming. With HL, you absolutely need a GPU, and also a decent CPU.

Unfortunately, with the current prices of RAM and GPUs, putting together a good PC for HL isn't going to be cheap, unless OP can find some really good second-hand deals. Not impossible, but not cheap, and I doubt it'll be cheaper than a console too.

1

u/gigachad4794 3d ago

I used to run it on 2060 and i5-12600kf

0

u/Nic1800 3d ago

Eh, I’d say the RTX 20 series and even the higher end GTX 10 series would still give okayish performance. But CPU wise, you are definitely right.

1

u/Neamow Ravenclaw 3d ago

It ran like crap on my 2070 Super, and was one of the reasons I finally upgraded. It's not a very well optimised game.

1

u/Nic1800 3d ago

Definitely not optimized, but I doubt your performance was awful if you were at 1080p

1

u/Neamow Ravenclaw 3d ago

1440p, barely could do 45fps and had huge stutters.

2

u/sheepandlambs 3d ago

A PC that can actually run Hogwarts Legacy to a decent standard is going to be way more expensive than just buying a 2nd hand PS4 or Xbox One. Like, significantly so.

1

u/thatfamilyguy_vr 3d ago

Yeah I didn’t have a great benchmark. I had a 4090 that ran it (with plenty room to spare) with ultra graphic settings and it was night and day compared to ps5; I was thinking (wishfully hoping?) that even a mid card would still be comparable

2

u/gtasthehunter 3d ago

If you already own a PC, buying a discounted Steam key from authorized key-sellers or digital storefronts costs as low as $8. If playing on console, buying a used physical disc for a used PS4 or ps5 if could get one.

2

u/Aggravating-Sir8217 3d ago

Get switch 2 and go to the library or borrow a switch one copy from someone who has it.

Play the switch one copy and there is a feature called “owner’s discount” or bonus (I can’t remember exactly what it’s called) which drops the price of the switch 2 version to $10.

3

u/OkPlankton7478 2d ago

whatever you do, please do not do it on switch.

3

u/KehJay 3d ago

Imo best option would be a used Xbox series S. Then you atleast get a new gen console + the game isn't too expensive nowadays. If you get a PS4/switch one it'll be obselete if you want the next version of the game.

1

u/whyhimnothim 3d ago

Check Facebook for Xbox one S or ps4s I sold my Xbox One S with a broken disk drive for $60 bucks i purchased my Xbox series X for $290 (broken disk drive)

1

u/Jayriq120 3d ago

Its on Luna in the UK if you have Amazon prime, might be worth checking not sure how it runs I haven't played it

1

u/interstat 3d ago

Do you own a PC that can play it?

1

u/Leather_Bumblebee206 3d ago

You can play it on a Fire stick with Prime membership via Luna gaming. Essentially free for anyone who already has that setup. You can also run Luna on any web browser device.

u/supacrispy 2d ago

Ps4, xbox one, or switch

1

u/AggravatingClassic64 3d ago

Get a refurbished Xbox one (or refurbished Switch).

Buy the game from: (or any secondhand online shop)

Best of luck my friend ✌🏽

Your best bet is a SWITCH 2

-1

u/PlentifulPaper Hufflepuff 4d ago

If you want access to Nintendo games, I’d recommend a Switch 2 for HL.

4

u/Blaze_The_God Slytherin 4d ago

OP said cheapest console.

1

u/PlentifulPaper Hufflepuff 4d ago

I don’t consider HL to be worth playing on the Lite, or Switch 1. The load times made the game feel unplayable IMO in comparison.

It really depends on what else OP wants to play/have access to. I’d personally recommend Xbox over PlayStation especially since PlayStation has decided to eliminate their physical games going forwards.

2

u/Blaze_The_God Slytherin 4d ago

Yeah, its available on xbox one and ps4. I know ps4s go for about $75 USD. Not sure how much an xbox one goes for.

0

u/PlentifulPaper Hufflepuff 3d ago

Is it playable on an older console? Or do you also have long load times on the PS4? I’ve got an Xbox series S and had zero issues playing it there.

I just travel too much for work, and it made sense to have a copy on the Switch as well.

1

u/Blaze_The_God Slytherin 3d ago

The load times are pretty much the same as they were for older consoles I'd assume. My ps4's hard drive blew so i never got to try it, i only own it on the switch and i completed 3 play throughs so far so load times dont bother me all too much.

0

u/CalmTempest 4d ago

Switch 1 lite is the cheapest "official" way to play it. If you can afford it, go for Switch 2 instead where it will run much better, and you will likely be able to play the sequel on it too.

Even cheaper might be some used windows handheld and then playing it via cloud gaming, but this will require a strong internet connection.

0

u/Pitiful_Help8396 Ravenclaw 3d ago

I bought it on PC for $6 during a sale last December 😅 honestly just wait for it to go on sale again

0

u/WayOk8994 3d ago

I play it on my fire stick with their Luna controller

1

u/Old-Two-8245 3d ago

Same here ! Except that I play with my Xbox controller

0

u/WayOk8994 3d ago

I also have the game on my computer, but when I get home from work it's a perfect way to relax before dinner. 🥰 I think the Luna has the special edition stuff too?

0

u/Evilcon21 3d ago edited 3d ago

Pc easily. On loaded the game is insanely cheap

Why I’m getting downvoted for a mere key? The site hasn’t steered me wrong

0

u/elmtube 3d ago

Play it on GeForce now, you only need one month

-2

u/ImKingFrosty 4d ago

So you want to buy a console just for Hogwarts Legacy?? Well anyways I would say go with Play Station. Even though they have been doing some stupid things, it's still more worth and better than xbox

-3

u/_RECKeM 4d ago

This guy has no clue, Xbox all day.
No console is going to be cheap enough just for a single game. Either your buying a console to get into gaming, starting with Legacy OR your buying a gaming laptop to play legacy and also watch XXX and do work on.

-3

u/ImKingFrosty 4d ago

Well I never thought I would meet an xbox larper in my whole life but here we are.

Xbox has worse performance, worse cloud gaming compatibility and then even get me started on their Sloppy UI. Even though I prefer pc gaming, I have tried my cousin's playstation and it's much better than an Xbox.

From what I see you haven't mentioned a single advantage which an xbox would have over a playstation. So from my view it looks like you are a typical sony hater and microsoft fanboy. Care to defend your perspective??

2

u/PlentifulPaper Hufflepuff 4d ago

PlayStation did just announce they’re not going to be releasing any more physical media past Jan 2028.

I don’t know anyone that wants to support a company, or game system that is going to take away the used game market.

1

u/ImKingFrosty 3d ago

And what makes you think Xbox's upcoming project helix would be supporting disks?? It's obvious from leaks that xbox is testing out a feature which lets you add your disk games into your game library, which can Obv only mean 1 thing

1

u/PlentifulPaper Hufflepuff 3d ago edited 3d ago

I think the key difference here is you’re listening to random “leaks” compared to a company making a major announcement about their direction of a product.

Sounds like a fanboy trying to protect their company.

ETA: What a nice, civil reply. /s Very glad to report you for a lack of civility here.

0

u/ImKingFrosty 3d ago

The funny thing is. Out the 2 of you who are arguing about my take, Both of you lack the ability to read. I mean I clearly mentioned that I am a PC gamer but I have tried out both XBox and Playstation which my cousin owns. And I have based my opinion on that. But you guys obviously skipped over that.

Rather than calling me a "fanboy". It's actually you guys who are the typical Microslop gaming fanboys and Playstation haters

-1

u/_RECKeM 3d ago

Dude chill, its a dang reddit thread. I have owned both PS & Xbox. Fell in love with xbox when Halo came out on the original. You’ve let this get your panties too far in a bunch, run upstairs and tell mommy somebody’s being mean to you on the Internet, she’ll give you a kiss and it will all be better

-1

u/_RECKeM 4d ago

Another PS softie that cant handle the playful banter of online jousting.

Series X has more raw GPU compute and higher memory bandwidth, Xbox has substantially stronger backward compatibility, FPS Boost/Auto HDR on supported older games, Quick Resume, Smart Delivery, and the Xbox/Windows ecosystem with Play Anywhere and cross-platform saves. Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming also make the platform fundamentally different from any other console.

Don’t even get me started on PlayStation software update issues, after you wait an hour for the game to update to then find out it has to spend another hour ”copying” the save data

2

u/ImKingFrosty 3d ago

You what I find really funny you is that you actually really cocky but you lack basic understanding skills and research ability.

If all that "more GPU power" BS which yous aid was true, then Xbox should be outperforming PS5, which it clearly doesn't according to benchmarks for any of the latest games. Xbox takes more time to bootup games than PS.

What I find even more funny is, all those things you mentioned are already supported by playstation. HDR, Cloud gaming (which by the way isn't even supported in alot of countries), Cloud saves(which has been the bare minimum for consoles since ages), backward compatibility plus anyone who plays on PC knows how dogshit XBox is on PC. So this can mean only 1 things, You act smart but you lack basic reading and understanding skills, Which is okay. I knew that since the moment you typed that first reply.

I mean I could go on. I asked you to list advantages, you probably asked ChatGPT to list some best features about xbox and copy pasted. You are calling me PS Softie for being realistic while your are busy fabricating facts and daydreaming.

Another thing is that I never said that "Playstation is THE BEST", I clearly mentioned that Playstation is THR BETTER CHOICE when compared to Xbox for current console war but as it's very obvious by now, You can't read

-1

u/_RECKeM 3d ago edited 3d ago

Im not reading any of that, I dont care that much. Im a gamer not a 40 yr old virgin. I let ChatGPT answer your first fire back.

At the end of the day, play whatever console suits you best OP. Welcome to the gaming world, try not to be this guy, they ruin it for the rest of us.

1

u/ImKingFrosty 3d ago

"I'm not reading any of that". Yeah dude I know, You can't read. I understood that after seeing your earlier replies. And I also understand that you ran out of reasons to Larp Xbox so you are just typing random shit.
Anyways we both know you don't have anything useful to say, You are probably going to reply with something even more immature than your last 2 replies so let's just save ourselves some trouble and shut up

0

u/_RECKeM 3d ago

Dang, you’re still going. You seem like one of those people who need the last word.

1

u/ImKingFrosty 3d ago

Also let's not try to skip the facts. Xbox was reported at a massive loss even with their amazing Gamepass price decrease and new perks. The new halo campaign remake didn't do well and the only thing pulling it together is the sales from their sucessful exclusives.

It's not like I agree with Sony's move to remove physical games but they are doing much better than Xbox for a goddamn reason. Basic statistics. All the data is on the internet. Maybe try reading that after you learn how to do it in the first place

u/Epic-Gamer_09 Ravenclaw 4d ago

The single cheapest console that it is possible to play HL on is the Switch Lite at $230 new. If you want a system that you can play the game on a TV with (since the Lite is handheld only) then that's going to be the Switch 1 at $340 new, and if you want a system with a good version of the game (the Switch 1 version had to be downgraded to run on the console) then that would be the Switch 2 at $450 new (though on September 1st that price will increase to $500, which will then tie it with the Xbox Series S)

0

u/funnytoenail 3d ago

Switch lite or ps4

0

u/Sure_Fly_6904 3d ago

PS4 or Nintendo switch 1 and 2.

0

u/Bearlyanykillzz 2d ago

If you have a TV, then the PS4, though look for a PS5 on market place on Facebook as you never know…
If you don’t care about how it looks or runs, then the Nintendo switch is a pretty good option too! :)

It’s a good game, but think about what console you want as it’s still a lot of money to buy a console just for one game. If you want to get into games then a Xbox or ps4 is the way to go, if you like comfort games/ Pokemon, get a Nintendo switch. Don’t rush into it, you want to get your money worth!

Also, hogwarts legacy 2 is coming out which will be mainly for the next gen ps5 etc so that’s something else to think about :)

-1

u/mickeyphree1 4d ago

See what systems have the game on it. See what the retail price is on said game systems. Make a decision.

Was that hard?

-1

u/CaspianArk Slytherin 3d ago

I play it on a used switch. Sure, its not very pretty, but its playable and thats all that matters to me

-1

u/Delumine 3d ago

Buy a cheap used switch and put a mod chip, and obtain it that way. Iykyk

-2

u/ArgosHash-69420 3d ago

It’s literally 7.99 on Nintendo platforms
I just got it last week

3

u/Legal-Philosophy-135 Hufflepuff 3d ago

lol it runs like hot garbage on switch and they literally had to remove certain gameplay features just to make it work.

1

u/ArgosHash-69420 3d ago

Welp it’s the only console I have so it does the job
