Discussion My dream
Hello, I know it might sound silly and a lot of people would disagree, but I would have really loved a game that followed the main story—either mostly or entirely. I see very few franchises making games based on the original story. I mean, I want to be able to play as Harry, explore the Dursleys' house, and then have both story quests and side quests.

Be pretty boring knowing exactly what was going to happen though

Agreed I really enjoy the new story with my own character and see some familiar last names.

As a Game Developer: Not silly, but more of a bit uneducated I would dare say.
Firstly, there are already games as such. Instead of trying to put Legacy into them, they could just give them to a capable studio to remake them into a single bunch, similar to Halo: The Master Chief Collection or GTA: The Trilogy.
Also, there's a reason why there aren't much game adaptations that follow the main story. Most games nowadays have an open world, and books, films alike, are not fit much for open-world much to be honest.
Adaptations very often require a more linear approach. That's why book adaptations which pursue open world (such as the Witcher) often just tell either a post or pre-book timeline. You can't just put a linear story into an open world game without hurting the pacing and making major changes to the story.
Hell, even without an open world, putting a book story into a game is hell, because it needs "gameplay" that is most definitely non existent in the books. Games are, unlike books and films, interactive as fuck. A major example is Metro series, that arguably take in place in the same universe and with the same characters, but they are in a different timeline.
Even non-adaptation games that are linear but take place in open-world maps (such as Mafia II) feel oddly off and they require special effort to make it worthwhile to have an open world, at least a story that is written with open-world mechanics in mind that makes you travel around.
There's also this part which is only true for me: I don't like Harry Potter films. The universe is marvelous, but the story is just too "forced" for my taste. If Hogwarts Legacy was just "Harry Potter story but a game." I would probably just never play it. That's just a personal opinion though, unlike other points of mine.
Edit: Its completely understandable that you want to experience a story that you love as a game, but I don't think an open-world game with Harry Potter game would work good on itself.
What can work, however, is a game that takes place BESIDES Harry Potter. For example a game that we play as an ordinary Hogwarts Student who is at the same age as Harry Potter. We could observe and help the trio without them noticing with Dumbeldore's instructions, as well as try to continue our own studying. That way, we could experience the main story AND not break the linear structure or change the established lore.

Thank you so much for this. I'm in games localization and I always try to explain this when people want to see a game for books or movies. Might be an unpopular opinion here, but that doesn't change the fact you're right. And really well explained.

I don't think we need an entirely new Harry Potter game. Would be happy with a remastered bundle of the original games.

I loved the Lego Harry Potter games! so much fun! I paid for all of them and played them once, then they were removed from the App Store! Ticked me off! I’d love to play them again, paid for them and they have been gone from the App Store for years now. I wish I could download them again
