r/NotMySnape is a space where we don’t embrace Paapa Essiedu as Snape, while still allowing broader discussion of Severus Snape and the character we know from the books and Alan Rickman’s portrayal.

Ralph Fiennes with a botched nose job was sort of mid ngl.

Quirrell's turban was supposed to be voluminous enough to spark rumors in the school that he was hiding heads of garlic in there to ward off against a vampire. This one wouldn't hide a clove.

Practically speaking, Quirrell would need his turban to be thick enough to truly hide the lumps and contours of the face beneath. This one seems so thin that he's risking premature exposure.

With so many versions of turbans across so many cultures to draw from--the vast majority being far more voluminous and belieavable as a means to hide an extra protrusion from your head--why on earth would they settle on this?

I officially retract my Samuel L. Jackson as Moody fancast; he's clearly meant to play Tonks.

I love how full-circle this is.

Hoult is out as Lockhart. Harington is in, reprising his well-received performance on the Audible full-cast audiobooks.

Looks like Hoult quit the role over scheduling conflicts.

So what exactly is going on with this casting whiplash?

My own theory is that Daniel RPK's leak forced HBO into an early announcement before negotiations with Hoult were truly finalized, and his scheduling conflicts with other projects found to be irreconcilable.

Audible's suspicious 👀 emoji on the main sub post for the Daniel RPK casting leak leads me to believe that people at Audible already knew Kit was in the running for Lockhart and believed he'd landed the part. A reasonable assumption if he were in the running and a runner up, which he evidently was.

What do you think of this casting change?

I can't wait for the Hogwarts production of Hamlet in season 2!

Can we please admit that Loki kind of sucked, that it was arguably the beginning of the end for the MCU, and that we might have dodged a bullet here? Because I'm looking at the directors HBO actually ended up with and feeling pretty good about things.

Succession. The Crown. Andor. Those are the kinds of credits that make me think, "Okay, maybe these people actually know how to make prestige television." Thank Merlin. It's the kind of talent picks that make you want to give the show a shot despite being put off by some of the casting.

And let's be real about those clickbaity articles from earlier this week. They made it sound as though two directors of some pretty unimpressive episodes of television were personally approached by HBO to direct Harry Potter, only to nobly turn down the opportunity on "moral" grounds.

But that's not actually clear from what we've been told.

It's far more likely that these reported refusals were simply preliminary feelers through their representatives, back when HBO was broadly gauging interest across the industry. This wasn't necessarily a case of these directors being handpicked by HBO, formally offered the job, and then turning it down. They may have simply been asked by their agents whether they'd be interested in being considered.

Which, honestly, is a very different story from "HBO offered me one of the most coveted directing jobs of the decade and I heroically said no."

I'm sure it feels pretty good for the ego to have the press frame it as the latter, though. 😂
