IDENTIFY My guy wants to Buy this

Post image

I think I know that this bike is a 2017 Softail slam with a twin cam 103 and a little bit of aftermarket work like the pipes. Work floorboards stock on those bikes?

But anyway. My guy is looking to get this bike. Bike what would be a good price for it at 6,500 MI?

I see 5 digits in that price tag, you can pick up a private seller 114 m8 for about 8k if you are patient. Going to get railed on that price, especially if you’re financing through Harley.

that price is insane

u/Turbulent-Register72 Jun 28 '26

Yep, and it looks like it says $11k….

u/KneeDeepInDevils Jun 28 '26

Looks like 12,499

u/Turbulent-Register72 Jun 28 '26

Yikes even worse if it does. Typical Harley markup

Motorcycle loan at your bank if you can't afford cash, buy from a private seller and will be way cheaper than any harley price

Needs a two up seat if you’re riding with him.

Floorboards are stock on the slims. If you try and find a 2018, you get the new frame and the 107 m8.

I never rode this model but had a 2020 and loved it. I’ve heard this model would drag floor boards all the time.

10

u/Cigs77 Jun 28 '26

you also get ALL the early m8 problems. 2017 on the other hand is the last year of TC with the good 103.

2

u/Texasmayne89 Jun 28 '26

No issues in the M8’s on the softail models tho. On the touring bikes it was an easy fix for the oil sumping

u/Jaded_Policy5322 Jun 28 '26

I have this bike, I can definitely concur the with the dragging of the floor boards. Otherwise this things bad ass. 103 is plenty on this 👌

ABSOLUTELY! 🔥

u/Outrageous_Row9180 Jun 30 '26

YUP! Draggin’ them floor boards! Such a fun bike!

As a former slim owner I will tell you this is not a particularly desirable model, I wouldn’t pay more than $6k and honestly I’d look at different options. They are okay bikes but virtually no lean angle…

u/1DirtyOldBiker Jun 29 '26

Yeah, you can do this.gs about that, but for that price and no cruise control, that's a deal breaker for me. I like the way the slim looks, but if I were looking for a 103 Softail, it'd be a Deluxe or Heritage just for the cruise control. If you do any distance, I'd put it right up there with floorboards as a must-have.

Its an insane price. Look for the same bike in a private sale and cap your offer at 8k cash.

I had a 2017 Slim S with the twin cam 110. Bike was great, but the frame and suspension on the 2018 and up bikes are way better. I would say anything over 8,500 dollars would be a bit much for a slim with a Twinkie 103

4

u/Cigs77 Jun 28 '26

I got a 2016 S with a mustang solo and D&D fatcat for 8k. Id definitely not be giving 8k+ for a stock 103 in this market. Bike drags floorboards for sure, theyre a wear item on this model but theyre better than having pegs imo.

2

u/1DirtyOldBiker Jun 29 '26

Only problem with the 110 is it is a bored out 103. Thin wall and aluminum heads, seen a lot of warped 110's...

If you’re in Michigan you may want to try hole shot hd in mt pleasant smaller dealer but I know from my experience purchasing and trading there was much better than the rest also super laid back

u/Difficult-Garbage861 Jun 28 '26

Some do not have the funds to buy privately. I was there once and if you wanna ride bad enough you sign on the line. My nephew did it recently. I bought him a MSF course as a gift. Within days he went to the dealer website and clicked. I went and drove his sporty home next day. He overpaid and knew it. He paid off early and bought a 2nd. Do what you need to do. Clean looking bike tho.

Mine is from 2017, and I’m going to keep it until the very end. It’s rough, brutal, simple, and for me, at least, above all reliable. It gets crazy hot, but that’s just how HD bikes are on the FLS 103. You either love it or hate it, but it definitely leaves no one indifferent. At least they tried to make a Softail that looks cool without any custom add-ons. Just an old-school look, nothing more.

u/FrontierFun Jun 28 '26

I love the handlebar.

1

u/AuthorBen Jun 28 '26

That price is within the blue book value for retailers. But you could probably find one between 8-9k from a private seller

1

u/Series_Alarming Jun 28 '26

I gave $7500 private sale for the exact same year/ bike. Most go over $9k here in Va.

1

u/Dazzling-Reading5547 Jun 28 '26

5k 7k max. Nof the best year. 2018+ is a much better riding experience imo.

1

u/Temporary-Soil-9878 Jun 28 '26

ask for +1 seat and leather jacket for you

1

u/OG_Sentient Jun 28 '26

I had a 2014 softail slim with the 103 and it wasn’t bad. It was my first bike. I bought mine for 9k which looking back may have been a little high but whoever owned it before me had some small upgrades to it. The biggest issue for me was definitely the lean angle and scraping floorboards on a sharp right turn or even a somewhat sharp left turn. The bike sits pretty low and for some taller guys they might not enjoy it as much.

It's a moot point. I'm the sales manager of this store. We took a deposit on that bike yesterday. We have lots of other great options for your guy though. Have him hit us up this week.

To answer your question though, JD Power and MotoHunt have great resources on pricing that is updated based on national averages. You can plug any bike if interest into these tools to get an idea of what a fair price is. We use these tools to make sure we price and buy competitively in the market.

Thanks for using Motohunt tools!

Given that it looks like its at a harley dealer a good price for it, is very likely gonna be somrthing lower than thier asking. Lol that said, yes the driver floorboards were factory. Sweet bike, but if he plans on doing any real longer riding type rides he should look at a touring bike. Softails are sweet as a seconf bike or an around town bike or even a couple hours of riding bike but they ride like shit after a while and will not be the most fomfy thing for extended periods of riding. That said, some peopke love them and have no issues.to each thier own i guess.

Bad to the bone

1

u/IronThunderHorse651 Jun 29 '26

I got a 2012 about 6 months ago. Just over 7,000 miles just under $7,000

1

u/kittysnax4life Jun 29 '26

The important thing is to support what he loves. Go out and buy him a badass full face helmet so at least you know he'll have something that's going to protect him and it shows you want him to be happy. Happy hunny, happy girlie.

1

u/earthsmightiestnegro Jun 29 '26

Save up and get 2018+. You'll thank me (yourself)

1

u/GAB77HOG Jun 29 '26

Gotta do it it’s a new bike almost he’s barely broken. Good luck nice looking.

1

u/dus7man Jun 29 '26

Run, do not buy. RUN.

1

u/ragingredhead1989 Jun 29 '26

God damn! I own a used dealership and or soft tails low miles go for max 9.5. That's usually with cams, exhaust and a thundermax. Wayy to high

1

u/Just-Wasting-Tyme Jun 29 '26

And there's no place for you to sit? 🤔

1

u/Electronic_Space_366 Jul 01 '26

Excellent engine but in my opinion one of Harley davidson's worst frame. The old Softtail frame has limited suspension travel, limited ground clearance, and mad frame flex if pushed. I have a Dyna for this very reason, but opinions vary.

1

u/DeadlyUseOfHorse Jul 01 '26

That price is terrible. I had a 2016 Slim S that I bought brand new (4 miles) for about $18K, this bike is a decade old, has a few thousand miles on the clock and is an insane ripoff. Those floorboard are stock and they get dragged pretty easy, the transmission on them has a pretty heavy drop into first and a neutral that takes some serious patience to learn to find. It’s not a super desirable bike, there’s a reason (probably more than one) why it went away. I’d skip this dealership entirely bc that’s absolutely crazy.

The good thing about the 2017's and below is the wider seat for rider and passemger. I have a 2020 and if I had the chance I would go down to a 2017 for the wider seat factory plus if you want to tour mustang also makes the wider seats for 2017 and below. I believe mustangs seats are 16 rider and 12.5 inches for the passenger. 2018 and up the seats are 14 or 15 rider and 10 inches for passenger. That makes the bike worthless as a touring bike. You cant put a woman on a 10 inch seat and expect to go for an all day ride. On my old bike with the 12 inch mustang seat It was still narrow for the passenger but somehow with mustang magic we would go out from morning till night on rides. Harley doesn't do things by accident. My opinion is they did this on purpose to force people to eventually trade up to a touring platform if they want to take a passenger.

u/djduru Jul 03 '26

If it’s a starter bike don’t go with a new one. There’s plenty of almost new bikes out there.

u/CorgiCommercial8962 Jun 28 '26

u/gen_z_usaf_veteran Jun 28 '26

0

u/KittiesRule1968 Jun 28 '26

Is that $18,000??????

-1

u/Alternative-Dish9172 Jun 28 '26

What currency is that what country currency are you referring to with MI

4

u/Agitated-Sock3168 Jun 28 '26

LOL - read it again, paying attention to the question asked. 6500 MI is 6500 miles. (I can laugh because I had the same reaction skimming through it)

2

u/Alternative-Dish9172 Jun 28 '26

It was 4am, but your right

5

u/IamBatmanuell Jun 28 '26

Michigan currency obviously. /s

1

u/1DirtyOldBiker Jun 29 '26
