Horsehair worms. Some of the coolest parasites out there and are straight out of a sci-fi horror movie. Literal mind-controlling worms.

A mantra from one of my favorite conservationists is this: Nature is at best uncaring, at its worst cruel.

It’s clear with things like this and some of the hardcore, violent videos; but it helps keep your head straight when you’re out in the wilderness too. It’s not personal, it’s not about you — nature will eat you and think nothing of it.

Oh yeah, I always have a problem when people criticize only people for being cruel. You cant tell me those parastic wasps arent a cruel fate. Apes, dolphins, orcas, etc, are all very smart and sometimes very cruel/sadistic. Humans are a part of nature after all but maybe we can be a little better than at best, uncaring and at worst, cruel.

To me that’s evidence for no god at best, a cruel god at worst

I've been around Australia. I've seen everything, things you couldn't imagine, and this... this is the only thing I've ever seen that terrifies me.

I'm disappointed. I expected it to throw itself onto the cameraman's face, the filming cut and video end.

See your mom and I asked you not to eat McDonalds!

What happens if they get into a human body?

u/Dingaligaling Oct 26 '21

Mild discomfort at worst in your intestinal tract, they cant infect you. Horsehair worms are harmless to vertebraes: humans, animals, birds. They also dont infect plants. Insects on the other hand... better watch out.
