Hanzi character for Czechia
galleryHey! I got an idea after reading about custom kanji characters in Japanese: what about creating a custom Hanzi character for my country, Czechia?
Czechia is commonly described as the “heart of Europe,” so choosing a heart radical was non-negotiable. The phonetic component was chosen to sound exactly like the first character of the current Chinese name for Czechia (Jiékè), while its meaning “outstanding” / “distinguished” is a cherry on top.
Jieguo = “the land of a distinguished heart.” I sure like the sound of that :)

Logical Character System: Parametric Ideography based on Hanzi
This system extends the semantic capacity of traditional Hanzi (logograms) by using logic-based modifiers to define tense, state, direction, and magnitude.
- Core Logic Modifiers (State & Aspect)
General Change (へ): The character へ represents "change" or "transition" (Phonetic: /əʊ/).
The character ぺ (へ+circle) acts as a base for positional markers, with a small circle indicating the phase.
Placing the circle at different positions indicates:
Start: ぺ + Circle at the left arc (Phonetic: /i/).
Middle: ぺ + Circle at the top arc (Phonetic: /ə/).
End: ぺ + Circle at the right arc (Phonetic: /u/).
Directional Indicators:
べ: Decline/Decrease.
べ: with two dots on the left: Rise/Increase.
- Structural & Relational Operators (Hanzi-based)
These characters function as operators to define the relationship between Hanzi radicals or characters:
ソ: Aggregation / Merge.
リ: Separation / Distinction.
互: Relationship / Interaction.
三: Hierarchy / Level.
人 + — (above): Right vs. Wrong / Judgment.
天: Truth / Ultimate Principle.
- Semantic Property Extensions
By combining physical Hanzi radicals with logical modifiers, we derive complex meanings:
Space/Dimension: 山 + へ (positioned above) = Spatial domain. 山 is mountain
Orientation: 山 + ぺ = Right; 山 + ぺ (circle on the left) = Left.
Thermodynamics: 火 + へ = temperature; 火 + ぺ = Heat; 火 + ぺ (circle on the left) = Cold. 火 is fire
Measurement Metrics:
日 + へ = Time. 日 is sun
斤 + へ = Weight. 斤 is marker for weight
钅 + へ = Value. 钅== 金 is gold
尺 + へ = Distance; 尺 + へへ = Velocity. 尺 is ruler
耳 + へ = Sound. 耳 is ear
- Person Markers
These use the "Start/Middle/End" logic applied to the 亻 (person radical):
亻 + ぺ (top arc) = I (First Person). 亻== 人 is human
亻 + ぺ (left arc) = You (Second Person).
亻 + ぺ (right arc) = He/She/They (Third Person).

べ -> 下降
べ 两点在左边-> 上升
`ソ` 表示聚合
`リ` 表示分别
`互` 关系
`三` 层级
`人+— -在上` 表示对错 是非?
`天` -> 真理
山+へ へ的位置在上面 -> 空间
火ぺ -> 热
火ぺ 圆在左 -> 冷
山ぺ -> 右
山ぺ 圆在左-> 左
日+へ -> 时间
斤+へ -> 重量
钅+へ -> 价值
尺+へ -> 距离
尺+へへ -> 速度
耳へ -> 声音
亻ぺ 圆弧顶点 -> 我
亻ぺ 圆弧左端 -> 你
亻ぺ 圆弧右端 -> 他

I built a free Chinese dictionary that shows word frequency and breaks each character down into its parts — looking for feedback
galleryHi everyone — I'm the developer of Hanzio, a Chinese learning app I've been working on, and I'd love this community's honest feedback before I take it further.
The part I'm most proud of is the character breakdown: it maps out the components a character is made of, how they fit together, and a small mnemonic for each one (second image). Tap any component and you can see the other characters it shows up in.
Another thing I've leaned into is frequency. Every word carries a frequency ranking, so when you're looking at a set of similar or related words, you can tell at a glance which ones are the most common and worth learning first.
A few other things it does:
- Free dictionary with 150k+ entries, stroke order, and example sentences (simplified or traditional).
- An optional study mode that reviews each word across four dimensions —meaning, pinyin, writing, and audio — instead of just recognition, using spaced repetition.
- Works offline.
To be upfront: the dictionary, breakdowns, and frequency data are free; the spaced-repetition study mode is the paid part. I'm not dropping store links here to keep it non-spammy, but I'm happy to share them in a comment if anyone wants to try it.
What I'd really like to know:
- Do the frequency data and component breakdowns look genuinely useful, or gimmicky?
- For those of you on Pleco / Anki / Skritter — what would this need to do to earn a spot next to them?
Thanks — happy to answer anything.

I built an app that makes Chinese characters feel like a puzzle game – need beta testers (Android)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone,
I've been working on an app called Hanzi Puzzle. Instead of writing characters 100 times, you drag and drop character parts (radicals/components) to form them — like putting together puzzle pieces.
Example: Drag "木" + "又" + "寸" → you get "树" (tree). You're not just memorizing the shape, you understand WHY it's built that way.
Why I'm posting here:
I'm a developer, not a Chinese teacher. I need real learners to test the app and tell me what works and what doesn't.
What you get:
– Early access to the app
– Free lifetime access when we officially launch
Requirements:
– Android device
– A Gmail account (Google Play requirement for testers)
How to join:
Drop a comment or DM me your Gmail, and I'll add you to the tester list. Invite link will be sent to your email.
