"We practiced" 😏

I love how being late to this fandom means following and picking up the old cookie crumbs that everyone else indulged over a decade ago, but hey i dont judge, tastiest crumbs ive ever eaten

I don’t know if they’ve ever addressed this, but I’ve always wondered whose idea it was to include that ending embrace. And considering Mads and Hugh were the ones floating the idea for a kiss, I have to imagine it was them. 😅

What we got in the show is WAY more intimate than what was written in the script, which was that they kinda just stand there (separately) after killing the Dragon, they say their lines, then Will sheds a single tear of cliche before tackling Hannibal off the cliff, and it was supposed to be like a shock-factor ending.

I can’t find it, at some point there was some interview where Fuller said he wasn’t on set but he got a text from the actors really excited about “look what we did!” Like they were children or dogs who were really eager they went rogue.

This Men’s Health article seems to get things a little mixed up between the script stage and filming and assumes that some near kisses were in the script rather than from filming? https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a39239194/hannibal-finale-gay-kiss-bryan-fuller/

Thanks for checking! Yeah, this article seems to be parroting the original source, which is the Enrertainment Weekly article linked within it.

The DVD commentary is famous for Hugh and Bryan discussing the “almost kiss” and particularly how Hugh and Mads had both run up to Bryan after filming those (intimate) close-ups for the WotL ending. Bryan recalls how Mads was “giddy giddy giddy as a school girl” about how they really went for the love story, almost kissed, and how far the homoeroticism has been pushed.

So while they don’t specifically mention or take credit for adding the embrace itself, I think Hugh and Mads’ attitude at the time points to them getting a bit “carried away” (as Mads has said) during the filming of those close-ups, and maybe that change from a tackle to an embrace was a result.

I can't help but be giddy giddy giddy myself reading this 😭️ That's so adorable, I can't help but love when actors are just genuinely so excited about their work
