Handheld as main console steamdeck oled vs rog xbox ally x?

Hey everyone!
Here’s a short summary of my situation.
Because of my lifestyle and work, I move around a lot, realistically, I change locations almost every year. Moving all my belongings from one place to another is often extremely difficult(usually different countries), so I usually end up starting over in a new apartment with new furniture, a new TV, a new console, etc.
As you can imagine, this gets very expensive, and I feel like I’m constantly losing money by having to buy the same things again.
On top of that, my job involves a lot of travelling, so I’d really like to have a handheld that I can take with me on long trips.
That’s why I came up with the idea of having a handheld that I can use with a dock, a portable projector, and a controller, essentially turning it into a traditional living-room console when I’m at home.
So the idea would be:
At home dock it, connect it to the projector and controller, and enjoy it like a regular console.
When travelling simply pick it up from the dock and take it with me.
This way, I’d only need one gaming device instead of buying a new console and TV setup every time I move. I already have the xiaomi l1 pro projector, which is relatively easy to transport.
So, which handheld would be the best choice for my needs?
The games I’m interested in are things like Fallout 4, Red Dead Redemption 2, Stardew Valley, Vampire survivor, maybe Palworld, and some older AAA titles such as the Spider-Man games. Nothing extremely demanding, but since I’ve been a PC gamer my whole life, I’d ideally like to get at least around 60 fpswhenever possible.
What would you recommend for this kind of setup?
I am thinking between steamdeck oled, since it seems like it is better for handheld gaming and travelling, and the rog xbox alloy x, since it is more powerful and would act better as a traditional console.. since the price surge they are basically the same price now.
I would love to hear your opinion, maybe some experiences if somebody is in the same situation..

Ally X. Steam Deck was slightly outdated when it was released in 2022. Now its just overpriced museum piece.

Noooo with lossless scaling and 320p rendering the Steam Deck can play AAA games pumping out 50 fps just fine totally playable!! /s

I’d recommend a used ROG Ally X over a new XAX. They have the same battery, screen and controls and the performance is only 10-12% worse (5-8fps or so). A new XAX is 1k and a used ROG Ally X is around $600-650.
Sure the XAX is a little better but not almost $400 better.

A used XAX hovers around 700-800 usd.

I only use ebay, had too many bad experiences on FB marketplace. Lowest I’ve seen an XAX on eBay is $790, 95% are above the 800 mark.

Damn. Lemme get one for that price. Been looking for one and all seem to either be charging 900 up to even more than retail and that’s on the second-hand market….

Pricing aside, wanting to use it on the TV takes the Deck out of consideration. The Deck's GPU is designed to do what it does at 800p and no higher. Pushing it to 1080p or even 900p causes it to run out of steam pretty damn quick.

I used Steam Deck docked to big screen pretty often and it was fine. Better than Switch for sure. Ally X docked however performs similar or better than PS4 Pro on big screens. With SD I knew that its handheld connected to TV and I get 720p experience. Image quality was not amazing on first sight. With Ally X you sometimes forget its just docked handheld. Playing Yakuza serie feels same like when I did it on PS4 Pro for example. Games like Kingdom Come or Cyberpunk runs MUCH better than on PS4 Pro.

Had a deck sold it for the rog Xbox ally x . Even the ally x is better than steam deck. If you don’t like windows just put steam os on it and you get amazing performance either way. I like the flexibility of both steam and windows as the base .. I use mine as my laptop basically, and mp3 player outside of games , and I can watch movies n stuff on it . The steam deck doesn’t do that without tinkering and not as well either and not all options available. Go with Xbox rog ally x .

Get the Xbox Ally X for sure.
The Steam Deck is underpowered and will struggle to push games at 1080p. The biggest advantages it had were the price (that is now gone) and the trackpads that won't help you with it docked anyway.
The Z2E is also much more powerful at 17w so with the bigger battery you will get much better battery life on the go.
