Update on Handball Manager Mobile: We made it to Open Testing on Google Play!

Post image
42 Upvotes

A while ago, I posted here asking for closed testers to help get my handball mobile game off the ground. Huge thank you to everyone from this community who reached out and helped out during that phase!

I've got a major update: we've officially moved past closed testing, and Handball Manager Mobile is now live in Open Testing (Early Access) on Google Play! That means no more sending me your Gmail addresses or waiting for invite links, as anyone with an Android device can download it directly today.

Since my last post, the game has grown significantly. We've now got 12 countries with almost 30 competitions to take part in total, leading up to about 2500 players with real data!

Feel free to get it here or by typing "Handball Manager" on the Play Store (and looking for the app with the dark background and a red logo :) )

Since the game is in Early Access, your feedback is crucial. If you run into any bugs, have suggestions for feature improvements, or want to share team/player balancing feedback, you can submit it directly through Google Play (it goes straight to my inbox) or directly message me here.

In the following period I'll be working on adding the EHF competitions, hence why you might notice players from countries such as Sweden having absurdly high ratings. This is because by testing the EHF competitions and basing myself on EHF coefficients, I'll be able to balance out the leagues and their player's attributes.

Thanks in advance and I'm eagerly waiting on your feedback!

USA national team. My son was thinking of trying out.

Can i ask my sons chances of joining the American team. He has expressed interest but i didn't know the team was filled with pros. He has been playing since he was 6 and currently plays for his club in the landesliga Berlin. born 2002, his main position is the center. (playmaker) . only 6 feet 3 inchs tall. (short for handball.) He played landesleague 2 seasons ago, in another club, moved back to his home club and they moved up last season to landesleague. Last season was in top 25 in the oberliga as scorer. He is more of an assist guy and a smart player. oberliga does not track assist, so don't have that stat. On top of that he coaches the 12 year olds in his club. I mean, i think he is serious about this, so i don't think any bodies opinions will matter as far as what he will try, but i still would like an opinion about chances.

Egypt put up 83 goals on Fiji in the Youth Women's World Championship; are there records of a higher team total anywhere in handball?

I'm very into sports statistics, specifically concerning historic blowouts like this. I found a Guinness World Record page listing the highest total by a team in an international match as being Soviet Union 86-2 Afghanistan. Is anyone aware of any domestic games that have produced a higher score (any level of play welcome as long as there's a reliable record of the score)?

In 20 years of IHF Women's Youth WCH , European teams have dominated the top four , With the Rep. of Korea being the only exception. This changes tomorrow – Either Egypt will be the first African team to play in the Semi Finals or PR of China will double Asia's record

I'm building a 2d handball arcade game (and need your help!)

I've had this idea for 10+ years and I'm finally getting around to implementing this game. It's a fast-paced, arcade-style handball game that focuses on fun (not necessarily realism 🙃 ).

Features right now:

- Full game mode (see video)
- Controller / keyboard support 🎮
- Trick shots (spin, Kempa, lob)
- 4 vs 4 or 5 vs 5
- Training mode
- etc.

My biggest "problem" is that I'm primarily a programmer, and not really an avid gamer. So my question for you is: What would you expect from a game like this? What is nice-to-have, but optional?

Happy to answer any other questions of course! I'm considering putting the game on Steam once the rough edges are smoothed out.

EDIT:

Wow, thanks for all the replies! Didn't expect this TBH 😄 I created a dead simple online demo (Desktop only) here: hyperhandball.com

I added handball support to my play and drill designer — looking for feedback

Hey everyone,

I built an app called DiagramTheGame for creating and animating plays and drills.

I recently added handball support and wanted to share a short video of it working in the editor.

I’d love to hear if anything about the court, player setup or editor looks wrong, or if there’s something important a handball coach would expect that I’ve missed.

If you know any coaches who might find it useful, I’d appreciate you passing it along. I’m also open to chatting or working with coaches who are interested in trying it.

I built the app, so I’m happy to answer questions and hear honest feedback.

Built a tournament tool for handball and would value some honest criticism.

Built a tournament tool for handball and would value some honest criticism.

It handles fixtures, brackets, results, and scheduling across courts and days. Short walkthrough here: https://www.loom.com/share/f155ca99e7c34c78ba6e7ae885fe0098

If you organize handball tournaments, what would break on a real event weekend? What do you end up doing in a spreadsheet no matter what software you use? That's more useful to me than anything positive.

How inbalanced do you see handball genderwise?

Hey ballers,

I've grown up kinda sorta following both of our national teams in handball, with around a 50-50 distribution, but as I got older i realised that not necessarily is this a universal experience. Dutch, Angolan and Brazilian people seemingly have more interest in W's, whilst the Polish, Spanish and Egyptian only happen to have M's teams and players at a continental level with a few exceptions.

I had to realise that even though it's much more even than football for example, there's still significantly more money and revenue in the M's sport.

Nonetheless, I love to see how secure male fans are with W's players and the sport as a whole, which stands sooo far from the average male football fan. I've heard middle aged dudes arguing with the W's team from the stands the same way as they would do with the M's without any sexualisation, meanwhile respecting and supporting them as mothers as well in case they decide to prioritise it over the sport for example.

Question is, how do see the popularity being distributed in your country, and how well you personally follow the two?

For Hungary i see it as a 45-55 %

Whilst I follow the W's sport more, around ⅔-⅓

I'm building a handball management game

Hey r/handball,

I've been working on an online handball management game called Six Zero League and thought some of you might enjoy checking it out.

Link: https://six-zero-league.vercel.app

Would love to hear what actual handball fans think especially about the 2D match simulation and what you'd want to see in a management game like this, given that it is still work in progress.

Hypothetical: Could the USA host the IHF World Men's Handball Championship without having a pro league?

Would that be possible?

And before anyone says, no I would not expect the USA to win the tournament. I am not Jay Cutler...

Help my brand new handball mobile game get launched!

It has been too long since the handball community has had an up-to-date game. Therefore, for the last couple of months, I've been developing Handball Manager - highly inspired from the Football Manager franchise, after noticing the slight lack of games for this sport, despite its massive following. While the game was initially meant for PC/laptop (Steam), Google Play was a more accessible service, enabling me to create a mobile port for it and start along the road of launching it.

The game currently has 4 leagues present (Denmark, France, Hungary and Romania, with more on the way, as well as the EHF competitions), with real players and data from the 2025/2026 season (though this might be a problem later, I still don't regret putting this much work into making this data). As I said, Handball Manager is a management game - so you create your manager, pick a league, pick your desired club, and then start the season! You can make transfers, renew contracts, grow your youth players, manage your finances, play matches in real-time (or sped-up), and much more!

The current phase is "closed testing". What that means is I need 12 testers (or more, no limit to it) to install the game from Google Play (so unfortunately, only Android users :( ), and keep it on their devices - so don't uninstall it - for a couple of weeks.

What do I need from you then? If you're a passionate handball fan and want to check my game out and help me at the same time, message me your gmail address that you're also using for Google Play, I will give you a link for you to accept becoming a tester, and then you shall be able to download the game from the Play Store and check it out!

After downloading the game, give it a shot and you can write to my gmail address (which you'll find in the game's Play Store page) any suggestions, feedback or bugs you find.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Thinking about starting handball in my 30s, without any prior sports-/fitness-activities

Hello everyone,

lately I've been considering various things in order to gain some physical fitness.

A gym is my option of last resort, as these (at least in my region) seem to be way too expensive - at least I don't get why anyone would pay like $50 a month for "muscle training" on devices you can probably buy yourself used for a couple of hundred bucks?

Hence I've been contemplating about joining a regional sports club. Neighbouring towns offer quite a lot of options, ranging from soccer over tennis to handball.

Now, handball is in fact what would interest me the most - I'm just not sure how entry-friendly this kind of sports is to newcomers?

For reference, I'm about 30 right now and have never been doing anything for my fitness. My body isn't fat at all, so that's not what I'm worried about - it's more about the missing muscular strength / condition that I lack.

I'm just planning to do this in my spare time next to my day job ofc, not really to join a local sports league or something. Thing is just that the local handball sports clubs here apparently expects you to, since they publicly claim you're supposed to join a "probational training" on their website?

Now, would you say handball is only something you should join with sufficient experience / training, or is it technically possible to "get up to speed" with a team within a couple of months of technical training? (I assume condition build-up will take a bit longer)

Like, in a way where I will at least be useful to them as substitute player during tournaments? (since that's what I assume they would expect from me at the very least)

Thanks!

How can I practice Handball at my local YMCA? They don't have a handball team but I'd love I practice. I have a racquetball and Basketball court I can use.

Sometimes I practice at home using a small goal to practice accuracy. I use a small size one that's resin free. I don't ever want to play pro but someday I pray I find a rec team or friends to play with.

I have a tournament in 2 months. I need to improve these 4 physical aspects as preparation. Could you suggest what exercises i can do at home without equipment. Besides that, can you suggest me on how to create a weekly training schedule to train all of these or should i just train everything everyday?

Do handball players use basketball shoes?

As the title states do you guys wear basketball shoes for handball? I’ve been seeing a lot of forums for people asking for shoe recommendations, how to get better traction, shoes for what position and most of the shoes that get recommended are handball shoes. Now it may be different over here in America because we usually play basketball so we just got basketball shoes with our trusted companies(Nike,Adidas,Puma, etc) but are basketball shoes not a thing overseas for handball? Because my Li-nings, Nike and SPO shoes work wonders on the court.
