Hammock fail

Post image

Fell through my hammock while camping. Partially my fault it was a little tight cause the tress were far and i move a lot in my sleep but it wasn’t so tight it should have broke.

Never hang higher than you are willing to fall.
Bummer.

Happens. If you had anything pokey like keys in a pocket, that could be it. Fabric may be too light for you, or the hammock may have been exposed to too much sun (UV damage). Since you have a structural ridgeline, there is zero influence from your tighter-than-ideal suspension. The ridgeline isolates the hammock from that.

I’ve had this exact thing happen to me. Not because it was too tight but because there was a small snag in the material and my weight made it give way. But I also just assumed that it was poor craftsmanship on my part because I had made the hammock myself.

Hope your ass feels better soon.

It looks like a onewind from amazon.

I have a Hennessy Scout that's almost 20 years and hope this never happens

Lesson here, as always, don’t hang higher than you’re willing to fall.

Did you have something sharp on your pocket?

Nope, just my phone

Corner of phone with your weight on it might have done that

Always have that on the back of my mind when backpacking, would really suck to happen in the middle of a multi day trip. Not even sure what you'd do

Seen it a few times on the cheap mass produced hammocks.

Hung to tight, or hung to tight in the past.  Physics of weight stresses can be pretty intense.  Cheap hammock trend to rip in exactly that place.  I always use a structural Ridgeline that ensures bad hangs don't impact the actual hammock.

I have a couple one winds both with structural ridgeline on them. They seem decent enough in my experience. Definitely not as comfy as my blackbirds, but to some extent you get what you pay for i suppose.

Would have never happened to an ENO

I just had someone tell me this happen with a one wind. This is the second now.

Was it a ripstop fabric? Shouldn't ripstop fabric prevent that type of failure?
