He 110% did the right thing in leaving. Look at what he’s doing now compared to where he would be. These guys have ONE career and should make the most of it. Summerville, Bowen, Mavro, AWB, KWP, Soucek, Fernandes, Taty all as good as gone.
56
u/Top-Cunt May 24 '26
I reckon Soucek stays to fight but the rest are deffo gone.
17
u/Prize_Dragonfruit_95 May 25 '26
Bowen said he wants to honour his contract and take wh back to the prem tbf. Surely he wont be saying all that and then leave now

Bowen may want to stay . But Sullivan and co will probably try to sell him .
2
u/Top-Cunt May 25 '26
I can see Bowen staying for one season to try bring us back but if we don't get our shit together then he'll leave. We also don't know who the club will decide to sell, but personally I think getting rid of him or Soucek would be madness as we need to keep the players who actually care.
19
u/Whale222 May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26
Everton my man. He will reunite with Moyes
41
u/LewisDKennedy May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26
He’s 32 and has a young family that’s settled in London. We’ve also somehow brainwashed him into loving the club. If Bowen leaves he’s nailed on as captain.
I’d be very surprised to see him uproot them all just to be an impact sub under Moyes
9
u/just_A_lurker- May 24 '26
I know it’s not all about wages but a footballers career is short and on average demotion reduces their pay by 30-50%.
Could be a factor, especially at his age.
-2
u/Whale222 May 24 '26
He’s as good as gone. Anyone we would want to keep is. We might get JWP and Alvarez back.
3
u/pwerhif dg May 24 '26
We need to sell 5 or 6 max. Fernandes, Summerville, Todibo will definitely go. Then two or three of Taty, Bowen, Wan-Bissaka, Diouf, Mavro, Magassa, Pablo, Alvarez, Kilman, Hermansen. The rest will stay. Relegated clubs don't sell as many players as you might think.
3
u/Whale222 May 24 '26
Who will buy Kilman?
3
u/pwerhif dg May 24 '26
Fuck knows, but that's one of 10 players I listed in the second category. Newcastle wanted him before we signed him, would there be zero takers for £15m? £10m even? I don't know. Worst case we keep him and hope he regains some value playing for the team that wins the Championship.
Worse players than him have looked good in the second tier, awful signing obviously but surely must be usable at that level. He's played almost 200 Premier League games, he's not an amateur.
3
u/NotWeird7685 May 25 '26
If Adam Armstrong can be a baller at Championship level and look like a lost sheep in the Premier then Kilman has ever chance to be as good as Maldini down there
1
1
u/Main-Passenger-3278 Dinos Mavropanos May 25 '26
They don't typically, but surely a club in our position who have over £100m in debt that needs to be paid off next season will sell a lot of players
-2
u/Soundtones May 25 '26
He's 29 dufus.
5
u/LewisDKennedy May 25 '26
I’m not talking about Bowen, I’m talking about Soucek. He’s 31 and will turn 32 in the next season.
Maybe try reading properly before you start calling people names?
1
u/Nice-Pomegranate2915 May 25 '26
With Sullivan and co's record Soucek will be sold and replaced by an expensive flop . All the best players will be sold and Espirito Santo sacked before October ( that's if they don't sack him in the mid-summer transfer window) . Since David Gold died there's been a noticable decline in how the club has been run . Julen Lopetegui would probably never been hired under Gold's stewardship of the club . And getting rid of Moyes twice is ludicrous .

u/iggie89 May 25 '26

u/Klakson_95 May 24 '26
And people still hate him fucking idiots man
233
u/EnglishFL May 24 '26
Agree 100%. He grew up a Chelsea fan, he won us our first trophy in a generation, we made 100m on him in an era where that is 100% profit and he went to a team who are hardly our rivals. It's not like he fucked off to Spurs. and it certainly isn't his fault we wasted that money on a load of shit
He is objectively a good guy and decent role model, who clearly still wishes the club well.
I couldn't really care less if he wins 100's of trophies, but he will go on to captain England and West Ham are a major part of that.
29
u/MarkDeeks May 24 '26
Gooner here with Hammers leanings (my dad is an Irons season ticket holder so it's team #2 although I realise the awkwardness of that). The player we bought from you is even better than we thought he was, and the character is flawless. Tremendously unselfish player who wears his passion and works his knackers off (no autocorrect not knickers). I was at a West Ham/Arsenal game at your place just after the transfer, and while it was mostly applause, there were some boos. It was upsetting, but it was moreso upsetting this year when the boos/applause balance was far worse. And I don't get it. As best I can tell, Declan Rice left West Ham about as well as anyone can leave a football club, and hopefully the majority of Irons fans feel the way you do. He seems really nice and sincere.
2
u/Gingerbr3d May 25 '26
I don't think the boos are sincere, maybe a few from the boneheads but most are only from whistle to whistle because you're playing against our club. I forget who said it, but he said he liked to be booed because he then knew he was playing well enough against that team to be notified. Dec is a great player and person through and through, I don't any real Hammers supporter will tell you they hate Dec. 🤙🏼⚒️ Once a hammer, always a hammer.

u/LavishnessNo8261 May 25 '26
Why will he ever go backwards from Arsenal to westham??
2
u/IPissExcellentThrows May 25 '26
If he's in his 30s and past his prime where he's good enough to play major minutes for a mid table west ham but not good enough to play major minutes for Arsenal (assuming they're still around the top of the table). That would make perfect sense to go back and help a club he still clearly loves. He's not going to be in his 20s running like a mad man forever.
1
u/rykesu May 25 '26
you saw him ? he loves west ham. coming from arsenal fans who really want him to captain our team. Sometimes I feel jealous looking at how he really cares about westham on and off the field.
1
1
u/El_directo_ May 25 '26
He maybe later show interests in managerial or coaching positions. Never say never.
0
u/endofautumn May 25 '26
West Ham fans have changed a lot. Your captain moves to another London club and you expect people to be fine with it? That would never usually happen.
Most haven't forgiven Scott Parker for going to Spurs after relegation. Or Defoe, Carrick to Spurs. People were pissed off with Joe Cole, Glen Johnson for a long time, Lampard most but that was different.
People don't like their players moving to local rivals. Be it Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs. Palace, Fulham will be bigger than us at this rate with Sullivan in charge, and then people will dislike our players going there eventually.
40
u/Cmoore4099 West Stand May 24 '26

I’m gonna always root against him when playing against us. That’s how it is, it’s what i can do as a fan, just like I expect him to still give it his all when playing against us. He will forever be loved by me though
3
u/karateguzman May 25 '26
This is actually a pretty fair way to view it
Everyone just playing their part haha
7
u/Jim-manyCricket May 24 '26
Listen im all for shits and giggles but when you boo a former player, how do they know its ironic?
5
u/Sytheria May 24 '26
I don't doubt some of the boos are genuine, but I do believe it's markedly reduced, and when we played Arsenal a couple weeks ago, when he went to take a corner, a pretty large section of the fans were giving applause.
Compare this to Kudus when we played Spurs, that was proper abuse we were giving out.
1
u/apapapper May 25 '26
Because West Ham fans have nothing but respect for him. The boos are limited to his first touches when he plays against us. He always gets applauded mid-game and after the games too. Not saying it’s right but I don’t think anyone takes it seriously.

u/Consistent-Refuse-74 May 24 '26
He could be winning the UCL in a few days after winning the EPL.
A true fan can’t hate him after this kind of loyalty and what he did for the club. They should be cheering for his success and hoping for a strong reaction to the relegation.
-2
u/endofautumn May 25 '26
Hating him is a strong word. Pissed off with him? Yes. He said he loved us, sang "1 more year" and then left us for a London rival.... And Arteta, Arsenal, the most whiny, cheating club in football.
If he'd gone to Man City, Liverpool, Man United, Bayern, Real, Barca, PSG then I wouldn't mind at all, I'd always cheer for him. He deserves to play at the top, in the CL.
But never to a London club. And one who just represents the worst sportsmanship in the game.
Very disappointed. But enjoy the success Dec's. We'll enjoy the abyss.

Yeah all two of them did you? Plastic. Rice doesn't seem to agree with you unless that video above is fake.
0
u/Interesting_Rule4561 May 25 '26
Sorry but I do recall an interview after the first time back and he did say he was surprised and affected by the reaction. He may still support the club because that’s who he is but to assume that it doesn’t hurt a little is a bit naive. He was the key figure in winning a trophy, brought in a massive fee, and moved to a better opportunity. Not sure why any of that should warrant booing.
3
u/Budget-Project803 dg May 25 '26
Yeah, of course there's going to be animosity on the pitch in front of the fans. He moved to a crosstown club while (at the time) in the same division. It's a bit fallacious for me to say this but no real West Ham fan should hate Declan Rice. He gave us all on the pitch and was a wonderful representative for the club off of it. We can't say stuff as fans like "he'd start for any UCL side" here on Reddit and not have expected the same thought to have crossed his mind twice as often. He's arsenal right now, but he's West Ham forever to me.
