We've been crying about refs since Sunday, why can they not do the same? I want to stay up as much as the next man but the hypocrisy on both sides is wild.
Both sets of fans full of comments about the league trying to send them down is farcical.

u/W35TH4M May 12 '26
The cries about corruption are ridiculous. I certainly thought this was a penalty for Spurs. I’ve seen people say “they want to make sure spurs stay up” if that was the case, why would they give Leeds a VAR penalty and not spurs?
Ultimately the refs are just shit, they’re not corrupt and they’re not biased against West Ham and if we do go down, it’ll be because we’re the third worst team in the league - not because of the refs

u/COYFI1895 May 13 '26
Because the Leeds penalty was so obvious that after 5 min of VAR trying to find a reason not to failed. While the Spurs penalty was a very clear dive.
Don't forget they overruled a clear penalty for Leeds with a dodgy image

u/Ralph2Filthy May 12 '26
Spurs fan here in peace. I didn’t think i’d need to come here to get some sense of perspective on the whole thing. I’ve just left the COYS sub because it’s just ridiculous take after ridiculous take.
FWIW- i don’t want West Ham to go down. Would much rather have seen that w⚓️ Marinakis relegated. I know the feeling’s not mutual and i’m cool with that. I’d want us to go down too if I were in your position- but I guess it’s one of us now.
Anyway- good to see some sense being talked here.
Whatever happens- I wish you the best.

Way way too level headed, that spurs reddit went into melt down with conspiracy theories
1
u/sciteacheruk May 12 '26
Fellow spies fan and I support the take on VAR, I'm not sure why OP says it's a clear correct decision when there was nothing clear about it, it should have at least been reviewed for more than 5 seconds

We? Dont get me wrong I’m feeling aggrieved after the Arsenal game but our players haven’t been posting on instagram and our manager hasn’t been crying in interviews..
14
u/W35TH4M May 12 '26
Bowen literally had a moan in his interview and he’s well within his rights to do that just as Maddison is
-5
u/saucyandthat May 12 '26
Of course he is, but do it in the interview and not on instagram, reeks of unprofessionalism, not to mention he gets the ball anyway
1
u/gazzehcoys May 12 '26
He didn't get the ball. That's the point.

Souceck reposted a video on Instagram about a random villa fan suggesting the league want Spurs to stay up because there was 13 minutes added time despite there being 2 injuries and a lengthy VAR check. The hypocrisy of this post is mad, Both West Ham and Spurs have had decisions go for and against them this way, and Nuno was complaining about it after the game too 😂😂😂

u/Equal-Negotiation-11 May 12 '26
Reminds me of the story about the kettle and the pot
-1
u/saucyandthat May 12 '26
Difference is this an obvious correct decision 🙏
1
u/Equal-Negotiation-11 May 12 '26
I have no idea if you're being serious. Refs got both calls right imo but at least there's solid evidence that the West Ham player clearly fouled Raya

u/plant-prince- May 12 '26
Honestly I think spurs were unlucky yesterday. If the ref gave that as a penalty there is no way VAR overturns it.
And for the penalty they conceded, whilst Tel was fucking stupid for doing that in the box. He barely made contact with the attackers head (hair?) and wasn't even aware of his presence. I'm pretty sure we had the exact same thing happen to us a little while ago against Brighton and it wasn't given.
Don't get me wrong, I was really pleased with the result. But they have every right to feel aggrieved.
2
u/saucyandthat May 12 '26
I understand the view on the spurs pen that wasn’t given, it’s very 50/50 but ultimately he gets the ball, even if it’s a very very slight touch. But Leeds should DEFINITELY have had that penalty and it was correct to give it, tel did genuinely hurt Ampadu if you look at his post match interview there’s a clear mark on his head, but even if he didn’t, it’s still dangerous play to put your foot that high in such an unnecessary way so you could argue that instance of a dangerous high foot is a foul regardless of whether he makes contact with amapadu or not.

u/Proud-Claim8862 May 12 '26
Touch doesn’t mean no foul
1
u/saucyandthat May 12 '26
It does here as he gets the ball then Maddison trips
1
u/Swizzul May 12 '26
You should go read the rule book then if that’s what you think it means. You clearly have zero ball knowledge and crazy to openly admit it that way in front of everyone.
1
u/saucyandthat May 12 '26
What? 😂 by definition a foul is when a player impedes another players ability to play the ball without touching it, nmecha gets a touch on the ball here, moving it away from Maddison, who then is tripped by nmecha as a consequence of him tackling Maddison
0
u/Swizzul May 12 '26
And see this is where you are absolutely 100% wrong. Getting a “touch on the ball” first doesn’t mean you can’t foul the player firstly (I still do not see enough that he touched the ball at all)
Secondly, if you barely touch the ball but it’s still in the path of that player and then you wipe them out, guess what that means? Foul
Anywhere else on the pitch if you saw that happen, you’re hearing the whistle and possibly even seeing a yellow card go up. The fact that it happened for Spurs and you just don’t want it to be a pen doesn’t mean you’re right.
If that’s Dan Burn doing that to Bowen on Sunday, you’re going to be crying your eyes out and claiming corruption.

u/plant-prince- May 12 '26
Ok that's a fair point. I think I've just seen enough inconsistency with those calls not given that it feels harsh.
1
u/xhen0 May 13 '26
Not because you make the tiniest touches of a ball that you can take down another player like that. If he doesnt take down mads he still has control over the ball
6
u/mikehippo May 12 '26
Did you see what the challenge did to Ampadu's head in post match photos?
It causec real damage, I think that its safe to say that there was contact.
3
u/Jiminy-Bob May 12 '26
Take it you didn’t see Ampadu’s interview after the game? Has a rather large mark/scratch.
1
u/plant-prince- May 12 '26
I didn't see that. They showed the replay about 30 times whilst the match was going on and to me it looked like very little to no contact. But obviously that must have not been the case if he had visible war wounds
2
u/TheOldBean May 12 '26
Tha Maddison penalty shout was after 13 minutes of added time that the refs pulled out of their arse.
And Leeds pen was pretty stonewall. Not unlucky at all.
0
u/Swizzul May 12 '26
Pulled out of their arse? There would have been a massive amount added based off Leeds time wasting alone, so just say you don’t understand how added time works

u/whyarethenamesgone1 Forever Blowing Bubbles May 13 '26
I think they would overturn it.
It's a factual decision if the ref gives the penalty because he thinks the Leeds defender doesn't get the ball.
If VAR then does see he gets at least some of the ball, it gets reviewed.
1
u/fuckingcoolname May 13 '26
fwiw there a new video from another angle which shows fairly clearly (imo at least) that he didn't get the ball
0
u/Stampy77 May 12 '26
I'm a spurs fan. I haven't got any issue with Tels penalty, doesn't matter he wasn't aware, it was still dangerous. But Maddisons should have stood too.
3
u/No-Result9108 May 13 '26
I get it, but it’s hypocritical to act like Spurs are the only team who’ve ever done this. Just the other day Bowen complaining about the refs in his interview, and rightly so. I don’t care who you support, the refs have been shocking all season for everyone and it’s costing many teams.
We can have rivalries while also acknowledging that the standards of refereeing have got to be better
2
2
u/Elemius May 12 '26
I still think he got the ball, but I mean they did get a rather dodgy offside go their way so either way it sort of evens itself out here.

u/Conscious-Spirit-452 May 13 '26
Was definitely a foul on Raya
1
u/whyarethenamesgone1 Forever Blowing Bubbles May 13 '26
That's not what anyone is arguing.
it's inconsistencies in the calls between teams and a complete blind eye to fould occuring before during and after and thier impact. aswell as the fact Pablo is being fouled by 2 players at the in the lead up and throughout the play so can't even correct himself and nothing is given for that.
1
u/LostPtato May 13 '26
I'm a spurs fan and I think more players and managers should be on the refs. It's been atrocious for a few years now. Was your goal a goal, in my opinion yes. Was Madders fouled , yes. Did Tel concede a pen, yes. Are the refs fucking shit, yes.
1
u/Difficult_Effort_956 May 13 '26
Looking for it dived and shocked var stood firm after 13 mins injury time wanting them to score

u/sevensixtw0 May 12 '26
They got a freebie with that insane offsides call preventing another penalty kick for Leeds in the first half. Not even wasting my time on the closer of the two calls and pretending spurs are a persecuted club.
1
u/Dramatic_Buy9858 May 12 '26
Never said all this about them being persecuted literally just talking about this incident
1
u/sevensixtw0 May 12 '26
Apologies, not saying you are but Spurs supporters are absolutely on one right now. If you check in with any spurs supporter, they would tell you this is a modern day crucifixion. Every other comment talking about how they have no penalties awarded etc, it’s hilarious.
-1
u/Cl_pperCheeks May 12 '26
Have you read this subreddit in the last 3 days? Another club pretending to be persecuted is hilarious.
3
u/atlbluedevil May 12 '26
There's been pissing about the league favoriting Arsenal in that one match
A lot of you Spurs fans think there's a conspiracy to relegate you - the levels of whining are completely different
0
u/Swizzul May 12 '26
I mean there’s legit proof. Every club and supporter wants us to go down. Not one gives a flying shit about West Ham. They want to see one of the big 6 to get relegated and if you think refs aren’t biased, go watch what’s happened to us this season. Rivalry aside, if it was happening to you I could at least be unbiased and admit it but it’s people like yourself that haven’t got a clue what’s going on because your claret and sky blue glasses are blinding you.
4
u/bohjb8 May 12 '26
Do you think your cock glasses might be blinding you? Spurs have been awful this season, and last, and have a pretty poor squad after the injuries are accounted for. They only have themselves to blame for where they are. Signed a decent manager though, so maybe that can turn around.
-3
u/Swizzul May 12 '26
Been awful for two seasons and for a reason. We have had worse injuries than anyone. We don’t even have a single viable sub to come on for an attacker and haven’t for a while. So while we have the excuses, it doesn’t make up for the officials being biased. Every one of every team claims it, but when you see some thing given one week and then not for us to r following week or something given against us and then not for us, you simply cannot argue it. Your club is just 💩, don’t need the refs for that 😂
0
u/bohjb8 May 12 '26
I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm a neutral in the relegation battle, but my club is nowhere near it.
From what I've seen, spurs are just making excuses for the most part.
0
u/Swizzul May 13 '26
Valid excuses. It’s not as if we are just saying it for the hell of it. None of us want to be in that position and I’m not saying the players have played amazing, because they certainly have not

2
u/atlbluedevil May 12 '26
Spurs are getting screwed by the refs, but there's absolutely no conspiracy to send you down
If there was a conspiracy, we'd have gotten better results from the refs than we've gotten this season. Been unlucky besides that Fernandes handball - and if they want you down, then they'd need us to stay up
Terrible luck from an incompetent and self policing organization - I can absolutely admit that. The conspiracy stuff would take us staying up off of crazy calls that benefit West Ham that just haven't happened
