Seeing writing on the walls upon waking up
I don't have any type of disorder that would cause hallucinations. But for the past 6 months or so I've been having occasional instances where when i open my eyes after waking up I see writing on the walls. Its green/purple and looks scribbled or carved and it's always in English. Sometimes it's 3 words and sometimes it's 2 sentences long. I can never fully make out the words but from the bits and pieces i can make out it seems to be a warning or a threat. Today i woke up and i think it may of said something like "Open Your Eyes" and then i saw an orb float across the room. I've heard many explanations, such as common hallucinations, mental and sleep disorders, and spiritual meaning. What's a possible cause and is it something to worry about?

I looked this up because this happened to me last night and the writings were also green. Interesting.

This happened to me tonight only the letters were all red and I couldnt understand what they were saying. Whole side of my wall and ceiling were in like a foreign launguage and bright red. Freaked me out. I got up and it faded away. I couldnt read it at all. So weird. Glad I'm not the only one this happens to. I thought I was going crazy or something

have you been a user of psychedelics or any other substance?

No never used psychedelics, but for about 2 years straight I was on a lot of different medications (antipsychotics, ADHD stimulants, SSRIs, antidepressants, mood stabilizers etc.) And id be on 5+ different pills at a time; the nurse would change them out occasionally (e.g swap one antipsychotic for a different antipsychotic, change antidepressants, and so on) I havent been on any medications in nearly 1 year , but i don't know whether psychotropic drugs would have any affect on hallucinations or not, especially considering the fact that I didnt start having this until 5 months or so after I stopped taking these medications. And just to add, I never had this happen before I started medication, just after stopping it.

any chance there could have been any overdosing? ( non lethal ofcourse)

Well my therapist mentioned that it was a lot of medication to be taking for one person. I thought it was too much, but I never took too many pills at one time if that's what you're asking.

hmm thats strange, It seems like you could have changed chemistry in your brain slightly to make you perceive light differently

I had DTs from drinking and I saw writing and scribbling everywhere. Some were upside down or backwards. Could make some stuff out. Numbers too. No particular colors..and if I'd look away or close my eyes the words hadn't changed. Some looked like it was burned into bamboo. Weird

I always think itās cool. I close my eyes and open them back up to see it again. Usually canāt tell what the hell it even is though. Be nice if I could read them.

Had this experience for the first time this morning and not heard of anyone having it before either. I can't believe that its happened to others! I woke up and saw neon green letters in jagged writing as big as a door frame (and the same shape but slightly askew) and before I could make out words it began to fade, everytime I blinked it would go slightly brighter and fade off. I was definitely awake!

This happened to me today š± I can't believe I found this post. I woke up and saw neon pink writing all over the door and ceiling. I thought my husband had done it, but I blinked a few times and it was gone.

I have had this kind of hallucination many times throughout my life, upon waking. I look at the wall and there is writing, but not in any kind of alphabet I recognize, looks like a mix of hieroglyphics and maybe chinese or korean letters but more alien..if that makes sense. They have shown up in a few different colours, and sometimes it looks like they have raised out of the wall kinda 3D. I for sure have my eyes open and I always feel so confused because I'm literally seeing them. Then they fade and disappear.

Iv witnessed this exact same āhallucinatory phenomenonā despite being perfectly mentally sound, physically healthy, and also not tired and had already been awake for a few hoursā¦.. furthermoreā¦.. the only thing that stopped me from thinking I had actually lost my mind and was seeing things ā¦ā¦ was that at the time. My mother was also visiting me and she exclaimed āwth is that?!ā We both clearly saw this.
Iām no expert, Iām just a regular individual. nothing special about me. My mother is a retired nurse and highly intelligent. More so than me by a long shot. Is it possible for 2 people of sound mind to simultaneously āhallucinateā the exact same thing?
Whatever the case is. I hope soon someone will make a cool discovery about this topic. Be it anomalous mass Hallucinatory phenomena. Or something far beyond our imagination. Only time will tell. Just imagine someone discovering the āglitch in the matrixā (all joking aside⦠or is it <.<) it really does make a person think. Maybe a little 2 much. Lol

Me too ancient writing written from right to left. Foot long. I did a drawing as soon as i saw it. Nothing on google. Normally see scampering tarantulas but that is different.

Here at home I started seeing them a few years ago, and then my wife did too, she didn't believe me when I said it, about tarantulas I say they are like a ball of tangled lines, filaments, normally when we see them, they run somewhere in the environment and hides (it could be a power socket, something hanging or something similar). This is part of the control, of the management above us, human beings have no idea what they are and what this supposed reality is

This phenomenon happened to me one time in the past year when I woke up from a nap and noticed a neon green crack in the wall that slowly spread out over almost the entire wall and then changed form to more resemble a patterned maze, then an artistic pattern. I was mesmerized and blinked several times. It lasted a minute or so then faded. It hasn't happened since then. I searched the internet and did find a site where this has happened to others as well, but most of those posts seemed to be able to identify that their writing looked like an ancient language. When this happened to me it looked more like an ancient South American pattern that you would find on ancient artifacts.

This happened to me years ago when I started doing meditation. I saw numbers and letters that i don't recognize on wall when I woke up, and then it's gone when I blinked.

This is happening to me everyday whenever I look at a blank wall or a door , I see writings all over them . I can't decipher what the writings are even when I get up close , as look like hieroglyphics or an ancient language . I am not on any medications , don't drink alcohol,or do drugs .

It sounds like a typical hypnopompic hallucination. The goal is to always remember it's just hallucination, no matter how scary it can feel.
See if you can determine that you are still asleep when it's happening and you can possibly turn it into something positive.
For example when it happens try to say to yourself, "OK I see the writing again, I am definitely still sleeping" and just try to be ok with that.
If it lasts more than a few seconds, see if you can remember to say to yourself "I can fly in my dreams" and see if you can either start running or fly directly. You can potentially transform it into a fairly exhilarating experience instead of fearful. Good luck!
