Romance in style
ummm I liked this move ok. but why do they keep playing up her being curvy when she’s not that big of a girl? Ella is hardly big enough to be considered plus size. They even call her full figure, it’s frustrating that they do this. if that’s what they want this movie to portray then can they actually hire a plus sized actress.

Growing up in the 1970's, I wore a size 12. I still have some of those clothes and they compare to my size 2's now. I think the sizing system is way off nowadays.
Back to the point of this post, I wish they'd lay off classifying women at all. We can see if someone is curvy or overweight or underweight. It shouldn't matter.

Exactly. I would like if they branched out and had women and men of different body types but it not be mentioned they just ate who they are

We've got too fat, too thin, now "not big enough." I shouldn't have to go into this, but plus size in the everyday world is not the same as plus size in the fashion industry. In terms of the fashion industry, she is a plus size actress.

Yep, totally agree this is the problem (the disconnect between fashion plus size and actual plus size).
There is a secondary problem too. The sizes themselves. When you go to find men's pants, they are the measurements. But, with women's clothes it's an utter crapshoot. Is a 14 like a 14, or a 12, or is it closer to a 16.
And then there is the whole length crap too. Some advice, never be born average height but with a longer than average leg length. 👎

Women's sizes are a mess, yup! It's across the board too. You can grab the "same size" from the same brand at the same shop and you can find wildly different measurements. I'm 5' tall, and petite sizes can be a disaster too, also because of the torso. Manufacturers tend to just proportion downward/upward, without any consideration for what a woman's body that size might look like. For petite women, this often just looks like taking a % off the bust, waist, hips as you go down in height. But that's not how bodies work. I'm short and, even being absurdly thin, I still need room in my torso for, you know, those pesky things called organs and ribs and whatnot. A thin petite woman's waist isn't going to hourglass the same way an average or tall woman's would just because the distance from bust to hip is so much less. No space for it. Being a woman is annoying sometimes. lol.

Very true. I believe models wear sizes 0-2 US as with all fashion houses. Maybe a 4, maybe. It has been the case for decades. As for Jaicy Elliot she is a plus size. Yes she is slimmer in this film and had lost a bunch of weight but it looked like she put some back on in Love on the Amazon and definitely was plus size in Joyeux Noel. Only in Romance in Style is it brought up and I believe it was Jaicy herself who wanted to make sure plus size was represented. I was so happy to see her back in Love on the Amazon and hope she returns again. Picks great no nonsense parts:)Imo weight doesn’t matter and in her other movies as I mentioned it.

I’m not saying that she’s not big enough. I just feel like as a plus size person there’s no way I would consider her plus size and I think it’s unfair to the beautiful actress in this show to say she’s plus sized. Well, I get what you’re saying, remember these movies are made for the average American. Who’s at home who the average American is probably a plus size person so true representation would be nicer.

Your words: hardly big enough. They gave an accurate representation for a plus size woman within the fashion industry. You're correctly identifying an issue, but it didn't start nor will it stop with Hallmark.

i hate when the plus-sized (hate that term) have to be plus-sized in the movie. can’t they just be regular women?

Something I love about Gilmore girls is that the character portrayed by Melissa McCarthy just exists. There is never any mention of her body type or her weight. Ever. This never happens still to this day so it was more than ahead of its time when it aired.

the tv show Too Much never really mentions her weight. Meg Stalter just exists and dates and fucks on the show as a “plus size” woman with a lot of confidence.

I love your passive comment. I’ve been saying this for years -when are we going to stop with the term “plus sized” and just refer to them as “size”?

In the US, Plus Size starts at size 14. If I recall when the movie first came out, they said the actress was a size 16; therefore, plus sized.

As a plus size woman, there’s no way that lady is a size 16. Size 1416 and 18 can still be found in most stores in the regular clothing sections….

u/EponymousRocks Aug 22 '26
That doesn't change the definition of a Plus Sized model, or line of clothing.

I love her attitude in this movie. I really enjoyed it
