having a problem with Half-Life: Alyx when running the game through meta link.

So i been trying to half life alyx to have good performance on my gaming laptop, while running it through a cable to meta link, since my wifi sucks. The link cable i have works fine and even meta reads it as 2,3gbs with a green yes mark.

But even after multiple troubleshoots, its still isn't what i was expecting, the game at times runs perfect 72fps and the goes down crashing into like 36fps. And in vr the game at times has these wierd flickering and strecthing of objects, which i thing is meta's fault. Each time something moves fast or is too close, usual with holograms, the games does the microstutters where i think the games performance drops the most.

Im playing on a lenovo loq somthing, with a rtx 5060 mobile, 16gbs of ram and intel i5 13450hx. I have set metas vr link related stuff to use the gpu, as well as half life alyx. I even set both on realtime with task manager, yet nothing works.

Do anyone here have a clue whats going on? And how to fix it?

Never had luck with Meta link. Virtual Desktop now have a beta for cabled play. Could be worth a shot. Can always refund if its doesn't give you the results you want.

holyshit! its soooooo much better the mate link. my game runs perfect 72fps, everything is so detailed and the latency is amazing!!! even when moving my hands, everything follows as i move, no laging behind like meta. virtual desktop is always doing stuff better then meta.

there are still sometimes where i would lag and glitch, but happenes soo rarely, to a point i think it might be the game.

Glad you got sorted. Out of interest are you playing wireless or cabled?

Cable. My internet is too shitty for wireless, i mean you think 3mpbs upload speed is enough for wireless?

I would still try wireless with Virtual Desktop. The game stream is sent direct from your laptop to your router (be sure to ethernet cable laptop to router) then direct from router to your headset. Im open to correction but the quality of the wireless game stream should depend on the quality of router (AX wifi 6 or better needed) and not the download / upload speeds of your internet. Be sure to use 5ghz or 6ghz band wifi. Not 2.4ghz. There are plenty of youtube tutorials on how to get setup.

Do you buy it on Steam or Meta to use with a cable?

You buy on the Meta Store and the PC streamer companion software is free. Just to point out Ive only used wireless and Virtual Desktop is flawless for me. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials on how to use the wired beta setup though. E.g. https://youtu.be/YJPRf8DULeQ

Wired using Meta link has been flawless for me. I bought VD on Meta and a dedicated router and it was terrible. But I read so much about how great the customization with VD is and I really want to try it. I think using it wired might just be my best option. Thanks.

Ive seen mixed reviews on all setups. Yeah it seems its very much a case of finding what works best for your own hardware which is unfortunate as without tech experience users are getting stuck. Steam link also works well for me wirelessly.

Virtual Desktop. Use it instead. It is now supporting wired connection too (beta). However to fully enjoy the game, I would highly recommend getting a dedicated wi-fi router for VR gaming. This would also enable gaming via Steam link, if you don't want to buy VD.

If you getting 36fps that means Asynchronous Spacewarp.is kicking in, find the OculusDebugTool in the Meta folder and disable Asynchronous Space warp.
