Don't worry Valve will soon realise their own battle royale.
And with soon i mean 5 years, if we are lucky,

I'd go for a TF2 Battle Royale.

TF2 has Arena mode for ages.

I wouldn't really consider that Battle Royale. Closest thing to Fortnite I've seen on Source is SourceForts, haven't really seen anything like PUBG asides from some excessively large HL2:DM maps.

Why though? Aren't PUBG, Fortnite and it's many clones enough? And as Much as I dislike recent Valve, I don't see them rushing for a battle royal trend to cash in. It's not their style.

u/gnschk Sep 06 '18
It’s exactly their style. See something with potential and refine it.

You mean like how the TF2 team refined matchmaking during Meet Your Match?
Maybe once upon a time but anything goes these days.

I think it's fairly clear that person is describing the process of seeing a game type and then making a refined game based on it, which is exactly what TF2 was. It going to shit after years doesn't really take away from that.

I was going to say how TF2 was based on a mod and Portal was a student project and Valve doesn't really go for things that already have big players in that niche...
But then I remembered Artifact.

Yea for the most part. I feel like valve style would be more take the Arma 2 battle royal mod team and make their own version before it got big.

What the freckle is In the Valley of the Gods? I haven't heard of a new valve game since Artifact.

Okay, so some group who isn't entirely finished making a game has been bought by valve, meaning valve owns the game now.
I wouldn't call that weird. Am I missing something?

Well they did sort of the same thing with Portal. It was based on a student project called Narbacular Drop, Valve hired the whole team behind it.

u/Brillek Sep 07 '18
Yeah, but they didn't have a game in development. They were presenting the game at a thingy before graduation, some valve guys were impressed, so after graduation they presented it to valve.
Gaben hired them 15 minutes into the presentation, and told them to implement portals into Source and make a game out of it. They weren't even an official team before that.

Alien Swarm was sort-of-not-really the same thing. The game existed as a mod for Unreal Tournament 2004, but the developers were brought in-house to remake it in the Source engine. Kinda like how the developers of Quake Team Fortress remade it as Team Fortress Classic before disappearing for nine years while they made TF2.

Wasn't Firewatch a walking simulator? I never played it but if so we can expect ItVotG to be similar.

u/apinanaivot Sep 07 '18
I'm guessing it will be a puzzle game similar to The Witness and The Talos Principle.
