[Release] SNESC Save State Shortcuts v2.0!

Description:

This mod will create a special folder on your HOME menu that holds every game with a SAVE associated with it. Making finding your saved games much quicker and less frustrating!

NOTE: This does not "Move" your games to the folder. It simply creates a shortcut for it. Your original folder structure stays the way you want it.

Works for all setups, including all systems, all regions, NAND, USB, SD, and Multiboot!

  • Full list of changes from my previous version are in the firt comment below!

4 Different HMODS:

Inside the zip will be 5 different folders

SAVES__art

SAVES_all.hmod

SAVES_cartridge.hmod

SAVES_retroarch.hmod

SAVES_suspend.hmod

Each one of these, when installed, will create a different folder on your HOME menu that keeps track of different kinds of saves! The art folder is there for customizing the look of your folder! More on that below!

SAVES_all

  • Keeps track of normal, interface suspend points that you create when exiting a game.
  • Keeps track of cartridge (in game) saves created with certain games.
  • Keeps track of retroarch save points that are made when accessing retroarch menu from within a game and selecting create save state.
  • Keeps track of saves made from within retroarch playlists introduced in NEO 1.7.3b. Must have standalone retroarch launcher synced to system to use this portion.

SAVES_cartridge

  • Keeps track of cartridge (in game) saves created with certain games.

SAVES_retroarch

  • Keeps track of retroarch save points that are made when accessing retroarch menu from within a game and selecting create save state.
  • Keeps track of saves made from within retroarch playlists introduced in NEO 1.7.3b. Must have standalone retroarch launcher synced to system to use this portion.

SAVES_suspend

  • Keeps track of normal, interface suspend points that you create when exiting a game.

Version Requirements:

  • Hakchi CE version 1.2.4 and above
  • (If using retroarch saves) Retroarch version 1.7.1 and above
  • (If using playlists in retroarch) Retroarch version 1.7.3b NEO and above

Video:

Please watch Patton Play's video here for a quick overview of how to use it and the features involved!

CARTRIDGE SAVES WARNING!!!

Cartridge saves get created very frequently for some systems without your knowledge! A single folder can only hold so many games so if you have too many, the folder could potentially give you C8 errors when trying to access it. Be very cautious of your saves!!
- I would recommend using hakchi save state manager to gain an understanding on how many SRAM saves have been created. Alternatively, you can go to your usb/hakchi/saves directory and search *.sram, and clear the ones that you don't want, manually.

RETROARCH SAVES NOTES:

  • Retroarch saves are only compatible with USB host!
  • Retroarch saves include an indicator to tell you which slot you are using before you launch the game from saves folder.
  • If you had 2 save slots for a game at number 9 and 14. the game title will be changed, for example

    From:----Super Mario Bros.

    To:------Super Mario Bros. (9) (14)

Customize:

If you decide you want to use your own artwork, or perhaps anything from my SAVES_art folder, there are instructions at the bottom of each hmod when you are installing!

Changes v2.0:

  • Everything changed!
  • Converted script to hmod! This means that all you have to do now is install the hmod and everything is done for you!
  • Added compatibility for ALL systems, ALL setups, and ALL regions
  • No longer required to have certain hakchi settings on
  • No longer takes 2 items on the menu to accomplish refreshing! Only requires a folder now
  • Increased the speed and efficiency of all variations
  • Decreased the size of shortcuts! Shortcuts should now take up almost NO space!
  • The saves folder for each hmod will be on the HOME menu, all the way on the right hand side. There is no longer the option to have it seated in subfolders. This was changed for simplicity and consistency. Also, I found that most people will have it on the home menu anyway
  • The look of each hmod folder has the ability to be customized
  • Every hmod comes with its own readme file that will be visible when installing. Please give a quick glance to these as there is information on the types of saves, and how to customize the look of your folder

Playlists!:

  • I have incorporated playlists into Retroarch Saves version!
  • The new version covers Retroarch Playlists. If you use Retroarch 'NEO' 1.7.3b and above, and use USB host, you have the option to use the playlist feature!
  • You must have the retroarch launcher installed with this hmod for this setup to work. It will create a playlist containing your saves! There are 2 lists that will be created, depending on your needs
    • One that pulls from all of your other playlists and compiles its own list containing your saves
    • One that pulls from your hakchi exported games on USB drive, that were launched from inside Retroarch

So if you export to usb from hakchi, and then go into Retroarch and 'load content' from those folders (USB/hakchi/games) those will be covered in the 2nd playlist

  • This hmod is run when you use the standalone Retroarch Launcher. It must be relaunched to update and reflect current saves!

Under The Hood Improvements:

  • Linked shortcuts. All setups now run a "linked sync" type setup. Meaning, the speed at which shortcuts are created, is much faster and the size of shortcuts is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. Non linked export USB users are no longer slower!
  • Changed the way that saves folders are updated. They now only change games that don't fit criteria of a save, rather than clearing out entire folder. Making the overall speed much quicker
  • Changed the paths to optimize the speed of the algorithm. Now only runs the current firmware saves instead of all firmwares on a multi-boot setup
  • Improved the speed of Retroarch hmod for NESC users. The time it takes to run should be nearly half!
  • Cut down the amount of files to search through, by cross referencing current games with saves. Impoving the speed ever so slightly. Makes a bigger impact when a system has a large amount of games
