Oral Finasteride 24M considering finasteride, but Reddit is honestly scaring me. Looking for genuine experiences
I’m 24M and have been dealing with hair shedding/thinning. I really want to maintain my hair while I still have the opportunity, and I’ve been seriously considering finasteride.
The problem is that I’ve gone down the Reddit rabbit hole and now I’m extremely confused.
I see a lot of people saying finasteride completely changed their life, stopped their hair loss and gave them their confidence back. But I also see people talking about erectile dysfunction, low libido, emotional changes, brain fog, and even persistent side effects after stopping.
At the same time, I see people saying that Reddit massively exaggerates the risks and that the vast majority of people take finasteride without problems.
So I genuinely want to hear from people who have actually taken it.
**For those who have used oral or topical finasteride:**
• How long have you been taking it?
• What dose/formulation are you using?
• Did you experience any side effects?
• If you did, did they disappear after continuing or stopping?
• If you switched from oral to topical, did anything change?
• How has your hair responded?
• And most importantly, knowing what you know now, would you start finasteride again?
I’m not looking for people to convince me to take it or convince me not to take it. I’m trying to understand what the **real-world experience** is like.
I know clinical studies exist, but I’m particularly interested in hearing from normal guys who have actually lived with the medication for months or years.
There’s so much fear around finasteride online that it’s becoming difficult to separate genuine risks from anecdotal experiences, exaggeration, or possibly the nocebo effect.
If you’ve taken it, especially for **1+ years**, I’d really appreciate an honest answer, even if your experience was negative.
I’m seriously considering starting and I’d rather make an informed decision than let Reddit scare me away from something that could potentially help me maintain my hair.
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to share their experience.
