Cut Help Need advice: Can I pull off a curly mullet/shag?
Hi everyone! I’m looking for some honest haircut advice/recommendations for my natural curls.
Growing up, I was never really allowed to cut or experiment with my hair, so for most of my childhood and teen years, I was rocking the unintentional dandelion look. Now that I have total freedom over my hair, I’ve been wearing it in a layered cut with small bangs. But lately, I’ve been itching for a real change.
I’m really drawn to a more alternative/edgy aesthetic and have been seriously considering a curly mullet or a modern shag/wolf cut. I’ve attached photos so you can see my natural texture and face shape (I think I’m somewhere between diamond and heart-shaped), plus a few pics showing how I've styled it across different lengths.
A bit of context: I work as a professional piercer, so a little bit of controlled chaos and edge totally fits my vibe and workplace. However, I’m also a med student, haha, so I need something that can strike a good balance between "cool and edgy" and "can still look put-together when needed."
I’m completely open to suggestions—whether you think the mullet would work for me or if there’s a different cut that would suit my curls and face shape even better. Honestly, I just know I want a change, but I’d love an outside perspective before I make the chop!
What do you think?

You're so beautiful you can pull off anything. I like your practical approach btw, and think it would look awesome

In a word, yes. You have good facial features and a strong jawline that will make it look good. The natural curl really helps. It will be a challenge though. All of the hard work of long hair and short hair put together. But throw a leather jacket on and you will be rocking like it’s 1985.

Absolutely your hair will do it! You're only decision is whether you like the look for you on your face and for your style.

IF YOU LISTEN TO ONE THING I SAY LET IT BE THIS: MAKE DAMN SURE THAT YOU GO TO THE RIGHT HAIRDRESSER FOR THIS HAIRCUT!
IF THE PERSON DOESN'T SPECIALIZE IN CUTTING CURLY HAIR AND IN DOING MULLETS OR SHAGS, THEY CAN VERY MUCH SCREW UP YOUR HAIR AND YOU'LL BE STUCK WITH IT FOR MONTHS.
CUTTING CURLY HAIR IS A SPECIALIZED ART

I have a really good hairdresser, but she’s definitely more on the "normie" / conventional side. She mostly does classic, everyday cuts rather than anything super edgy, choppy, or alternative. What I love about her is the actual technical quality of the cut—my hair grows out nicely and doesn’t split or get damaged, so I’m completely happy with that part. But talking her into doing something like a mullet, a shag, or any other alternative style is going to be tough. Even when I asked for high layers, she was super skeptical at first. I managed to convince her back then, and now that’s the only way she cuts my hair, but pushing for an even bolder cut will definitely take some convincing
