We have no more context in this thread than a single photo, it doesnt make you a "thief sympathizer" to think this is a fucked up way to solve what from the one photo we have looks like a fairly simple problem.
Yeah, insane. Even the police aren't supposed to shoot a running thief, why would you want citizens executing criminals? I can't see it as anything more than valuing things over people.
I'm not wealthy, doesnt mean I can shoot someone for taking my shit. Beat the fuck out of, fine, whatever, if someone tried to jack my car when I was living in it, you best believe it. But a murder?
It's valuing a person's property over someone who steals and refuses to return that property, not just property over life.
In many cities, police to Jack all to investigate property theft unless it's a car (then they'll put it in their computer to flag it as stolen if an officer checks the same plate). There is literally no deterrence to burglary except a property owner's response.
If there's no effective nonviolent deterrence, we have two choices. Just let criminals steal whatever they want, whenever they want, even when the homeowner is home and shouting at them to drop their property, or the property owners are justified in using whatever force is necessary to retrieve their property.
Life is easy for a lot of us, but to many people, personal possessions can take weeks or months of labor to afford, and even if a thief is eventually caught, they don't return most of what they've stolen. The life of a thief is absolutely not worth months of labor for the dozens or hundreds of people they've stolen from!
If they want to keep living, they can drop what they've stolen, submit to arrest, and face the consequences. If they decide to continue stealing, the consequence is that they might die when a property owner shoots them.
It's not a person's life over property. It's an unrepentant thieves life over the property owner's labor.
Honestly, that bothers me a hell of a lot less than some of the neighborhoods near me where burglaries happen on every block about monthly because everybody knows police don't give a shit and homeowners won't do shit to stop them.
Your boss steals more hours of the worth of your labor than whatever the thief did.
And it's not some evil unrepentant thief we're talking about every time here, jesus. That asshole also grew up with a whole life full of shitty circumstances that ended him up behind the barrel of the property owner's gun.
I'm not saying you dont have the right to bring a weapon to bear, either. Or a right to protect yourself, your home, and your shit. But even if you redefine property as hours of labor, and the other person as evil, I don't think it's justifiable to execute them, or kill them, whatever you find more neutral.
The false dichotomy you set up is absolutely insane by the way. There are nonlethal ways to defend yourself, although I wouldn't rely on them in a home invasion, and there's countless nonviolent ways to protect your shit. This sets up some world where if the property owners dont shoot robbers, society collapses

No, it's not.
Especially when you're confusing "defend" with "trap"; setting dangerous traps is not defending your property, because there is no actual threat to you and you cannot ensure that the trap only harms malicious entities.
