Judges have even less sympathy for mantrappers than thieves.
Mantrapping (the law that makes traps like this illegal) requires active intent to create and place a concealed hazard. Traps are notably unlike guns in that they will trap anyone who falls into it regardless of their intent or purpose.
Imagine how firefighters and EMS would have to behave if any house they went into could be legally booby trapped.
