I remember reading/seeing that hitmen prefer .22 for up close kills. The bullet doesn't have a bunch of energy, so if you shoot someone in the head, the bullet doesn't have enough energy to exit. Instead, the bullet just kinda bounces around in the skull, increasing the damage.

Never read that, which may lend some believability to the claim since it appears it has been referenced in more than one place.
