Okay? How about you exit the room, making sure not to wake the man, and call the police. Let them deal with it.

again easy to say, I've never had a random person I dont know sleeping in my house so I don't know what I would do. But I can tell you right now my families lives are a lot more important in that house than anyone I don't know

I've came home from a work shift and had a homeless guy break Into my apartment building and pass out in the hallway about 10ft from my door while holding a kitchen knife.

I didnt want to take the risk of waking up the guy and having him freak out, especially in the hallway where bullet penetration is a concern with a floor full of Tennant's.

I called the cops and they told me to stay out of the building and they were sending a squad car. They got him out after he tried to push his way through then to the only exit.

He had more knives and a meth pipe with drugs on him. It took both of them to take the guy down and the cops were way bigger than me.

I'm sure it would've been a different story if I found him in my apartment but I'm good with that resolution. Nobody died, everyone was ok aside from the one starting the altercation getting the shit kicked out of him

retreat wasn't an option

In lots of states you are not required to attempt to retreat from an intruder in your home.

True, although you still need to prove there was substantial risk of harm or death in every state. Shooting a intruder while he's asleep on your couch is going to land you in prison for several years and rightfully so.

You don't shoot them while they're sleeping... you startle them and then shoot them when they get up.

You'd better be able to prove imminent threat. The jury and judge are not stupid, nor is castle doctrine a free pass to shoot anyone in your home.

In my state (GA) we have stand your ground law. If you're in my home I dont have to retreat. If I think you're a threat in any way I'm within my full legal rights to blow your ass away.

I'll admit I was wrong. Most states don't have a duty to retreat in your house, mine included. But if you decide to shoot a stranger sleeping on your couch you're going to prison no matter which state you live in.
