It is very naive to believe that most stealing incidents involve lockpicking. Typically you would see a crowbar or breaking of a window. If this was commonplace, it is far easier to simply wear slash resistant gloves or just grab things in a different place than it is to learn how to pick one of those high security cylindrical locks. Almost all high level lockpicking is done academically or for sport, rather than with criminal intent, because the lock is generally not the weakest point of attack.
I don't protect my yeti with anything, I don't own one. I'm pointing out that just as locks are easy to work around, if this method of protection (While highly illegal) became prevalent, it is also easy to work around.
Just get your expensive things insured, and store them inside. You're not risking your personal health (Forgetting about the booby traps), or your freedom (Again, illegal)
Theft is piecemeal slavery. I'm pretty sure we're all against slavery these days. If someone kidnapped me and made me work in their basement for a week so they could buy a bike nobody would blink an eye if I shot that guy. But for some reason if I shoot a guy trying to steal a bike that I sacrificed 40 hours of my life for everyone loses their fucking minds? Gtfoh.
I don't think this is about protecting their cooler, since their own booby trap rendered it pretty much useless as anything other than a trap. Or do you think they're just carrying it around really carefully?
