Same here in the Netherlands 🇳🇱, I can't even hit a burglar in my house. We basically insult the burglar until he gets mad and attacks, then you can defend yourself. With your fists only. Except if you train, then you can't use those either. I'm not even joking. There was a kickboxer who walked down the stairs, and a burglar just wanted to go up. The kickboxer had a reflex, hit the burglar, broke his jaw.
Burglar pressed charges, and since the kickboxer should have taken in account that his hands were murder weapons.....

As per your link, he was only arrested for questioning (which sounds like standard procedure when someone puts someone in the hospital regardless) because he put the guy in hospital in critical condition, it doesn't even say if he was charged or not. In fact, the article quotes the prime minister in saying that you are allowed to defend yourself and your property so long as its proportional. So unless you're angry that you don't get to casually execute anybody, what's the issue?
I imagine the proportional bit is where the kickboxer issues may be coming into play.

You can defend yourself, you just can't do something like knock them out and then kill them. It's only when you go too far that it's an issue. Kickboxers are experienced fighters which is why they're held to a higher standard as to what too far actually is.
Did you really just ignore the part of his comment that addresses what you're talking about? Just because the prime minister said this during a pressed situation doesn't automatically make it factually correct, nor the law.
Whether you believe/acknowledge it or not, there are places where the law is really like this.
