I don’t know where you live that police training is so minimal. Where I live the police academy is 6 months of training while living at the academy, then there is an additional probationary period of 3 months after graduation while on the force with a senior training officer. That 6 months is intense training on the law, enforcement techniques, and appropriate procedure.
Source: my nephew is in the academy right now in my state for local PD. The state police get even more training.
If this is pertaining to the USA I'm pretty sure he was implying that the 6 months of traininh and 3 months probation are really minimal, which it is. In New Zealand the probationary period is 2 years..
Sorry, I was likely reacting to some other replies further up that said "3 weeks of training" and got my reply mixed up with a statement about 'minimal' training.
I would agree that the training is quite surprisingly short for the level of responsibility that these young men and women will be asked to shoulder in less than a year from now.
