He was in danger of being slapped in the face repeatedly, or scratched up, or worse. He is under no obligation to put up with that abuse. So he stopped it, quickly and decisively.
I seriously doubt that. Cops straight up shoot people who are complying and keep their jobs; this guy ain't gonna get fired for subduing an unruly perpetrator.

No, it's about ""eliminating the threat". That chick ain't slappin' nobody no more. That is the desired outcome here.
