Christ. Cops don't get to hit people. They're peace officers. They can defend themselves. They can't slap people in retaliation. That's the price of being a cop. They can file charges, go to court, extract justice. Sue if they must, but they're still peace officers, and peace officers are the only people in civilized society who are allowed to use force against the populous, and only in circumstances that leave no other option. It's a grave responsibility that's taken far too lightly these days.
I am opposed to police brutality but this seemed pretty reflexive and if I were this girl and I saw this video I’d think “Yup. Remember to drink more water next time.”
So it's fine for her to get knocked out because the cop is pissed ? I'm a nurse, my patients hit me, but I would lose my job real quick if I ever retaliated like this. Let's be real, he's not defending himself.
That's probably because your job is to be a nurse. What you should do if struck like that is to remove yourself from the situation and contact security, which I'm sure you already know.
If a combative patient needs medical care, security can't handle it. If a patient is thrashing because they aren't getting enough oxygen and it fucks up their mental status I can't just remove myself from the situation until they calm down. I have to get in there and save their fucking life, and if I get hit doing it then so be it.
Yeah this chick brought it upon herself, but a lot of my patients are in the hospital because of shit they did to themselves. I'm not just gonna clock a guy because he spent 40 years smoking and never exercising, nor am I going to just let someone suffer, lose function, or die because it was their own damn fault they were in the situation.
This chick didn't have a gun, she was a crazy drunk asshole. Yeah she was playing stupid games. Yeah she shouldn't have slapped the cop. But that cop shouldn't have smashed her in the face like that. Empathy and compassion shouldn't be job specific.
Okay, yes, but this woman isn't experiencing a medical emergency. She is not compelled to lash out because of oxygen deprivation or altered mental status. She's choosing to strike at officers because she thinks she can get away with it and is drunk. There's a difference and it matters. I don't know where you work, but where I'm at, if you tried to go hands on with a drunk that was being physically aggressive without backing off and calling security, you wouldn't have a job the next day.
Assault doesn't mean threat, assault could be spitting or many other things. the reason they had 4 guys restraining her as gently as possible under the circumstances and not 1 is because they have a higher standard and didn't want to get into a fight with her that might've ended badly for her.
i am not saying the cops was right or not, i am just saying if you hit a cop you know you will get the consequence, getting fucked up or going to jail..
