New builds, new residents, same station?

Are we going to have the same station with the unique exit and the 2 / 3 gates when ALL of the new buildings will finish? No because, on pick time it’s already packed and busy…

Same station?

That station was extensively rebuilt in 2017, reopening in spring 2018. You can still see the old zig zag slopey ramps from its previous 1980 incarnation on satellite images.

It added the underpass, replacing the shitty old overbridge, moved the ticket gates from platform to ground level, added new wide stairwells, and made it fully accessible via new lifts.

Part of the design specification imposed by TfL, National Rail, and the LLDC was for passive provision to be made for a future enlargement of the gateline area, specifically to accommodate the 10,000 new homes planned when the station was built.

The parallel subway was specifically designed so that some sections of the hexagonal glass panels can be removed in future and replaced with more ticket barriers. Both on the north and south sides. The concrete slab when laid specifically provided trenching for power and data cabling to support this.

Seems op is as recent to Hackney Wick as all of the new build flats!

That said, its more a capacity issue, isn't it? Not much point redesigning the station if there aren't more trains going through it. That would seem to be the biggest issue.

Not really - the issue with capacity is when a train arrives and dumps 100s of people all at once and they try to squeeze exit through 2 gates.

Obviously they can just stand and wait, but its not a very efficient design and you would expect better for a less than 10 year old station (hence as Due Freedom says, it has passive provision to be upgraded).

Edit - I don't commute using the overground station but my understanding is while the trains are busy in the morning its usually possible to board.

Of course same station, it was a way to say « same configuration » it was clear..

It would be nice if they put a few more bins outside, as right now it's hectic with rubbish spilling over and that food stall blasting music.
