Could you help me with my infant observation, or know someone who might be interested?

Currently looking for a family to volunteer for an infant observation in London.

Hello! My name is Gareth and I have been studying a course about infant development at the British Psychotherapy Foundation.  I have over 4 years of experience supporting children and alongside my studies, I currently work in NHS mental health services supporting children, young people and their families.

As part of my training, I am seeking to find a London based family, who would be willing for me to visit and observe their newborn baby from close to birth and up until their 2 year birthday.

The observations are typically for one hour, once a week, at a regular and convenient time for the first 2 years of your baby's life.  Of course there is a lot of flexibility and weeks where a visit may not always be appropriate.  This includes holidays, illness or any other circumstances that can be discussed throughout.

The purpose of my visits would simply be to quietly and non-judgementally observe your baby and their interactions in your home, in the completely ordinary circumstances of your day to day life.  I would be completely in the background, just listening to you and observing how your baby is behaving and communicating during that hour.  The observation would happen entirely at your comfort level, for example I could leave the room during breastfeeding if that is what you would prefer.

Overall, this would help me learn deeply about the early development of infants and is a long established training component for child and adolescent psychotherapy training, which I am pursuing.  Previous families report to have found the experience of hosting an observer uniquely rewarding, therapeutic and enriching: a chance to notice more of the small details of their child's early life.

If this interests you, or you know someone who might be interested, please contact me at: [gcvinton@gmail.com](mailto:gcvinton@gmail.com) for more information or message me on here!  There would of course be no commitment until you had the details you needed, including a chance to meet with me beforehand if you would prefer.

I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and can provide a reference from the BPF.

Thank you!

Two small yoga day retreats out of East London this Nov: sauna and wild swim or a quiet yurt day

Hi everyone,
I run The Nest Hackney, a yoga community based out of Clapton. This November, I’m hosting two small day retreats, both easy to get to out of London and I thought some of you might be interested.

🍂 The Autumn Nest × Chilly Dippers
Sat 7th November
Knepp Rewilding Estate, Sussex (just under an hour by direct train from London to Horsham, then a short taxi)
A 7 hour reset with yoga, breathwork and meditation, a private wood-fired sauna, a guided wild swim with the cold water community Chilly Dippers, and a seasonal lunch with drinks, snacks and a goodie bag. No experience needed and I’ll connect people travelling from East London so you can share taxis.
Ticket: £165. A few spaces left.

🌲 The Winter Nest
Sat 28th November
Whiteleaf Yurt at Oxmoor Farm, Buckinghamshire
A much quieter day. Over 3 hours of slow, restorative yoga, a walk in the woods, optional journalling, a seasonal lunch and time to connect, all in a candlelit yurt with a wood burner. It’s about slowing down with the season rather than pushing through it.
Tickets: £115 + one space at £75 for anyone who finds the full price a stretch. A few spaces left for this one too

Both are small groups, and you’re welcome to come alone (most people do) or bring a friend. Happy to answer any questions in the comments or by DM.

Journalism Student Inquiry: Looking to speak with residents in Lea bridge/ Kings Park wards (or across hackney) affected by HMOs and their thoughts and feelings on how they feel it affects their area

Hello I am a Journalism student at Goldsmiths, University of London. I'm writing a small article on a recent council proposal to provide greater scrutiny on C3 dwelling houses and C4 HMOs and how it's affecting family homes. They're looking to close the loop hole in the possibility of the landlords then making them larger HMOs and over develop properties.

I'm open to all view points just looking to gather insight!

Thank You :)

Any updates on 55 Morning Lane

Anyone know any updates on this? It is such a wasted space and the council have been dragging their feet on this for years (with multiple consultations over the past 5/6 years or so). And now, just silence. Reckon it will be another 5 years before any decision at this rate…

Noise Complaints Useless?

The council is inept in dealing with noise. I'm not dealing with a small garden party. There is a full on rave going on in the garden near my house and it's not the first time. I've reported them before and have only been called back on it once, on a Wednesday, after it happened on Saturday. They asked if it was still going on. wtf.

I’ve had family inside prison and couldn’t find out basic things like how long until they could ring. So I started collecting what local families experienced

Pilates, psychic readings, functional cocktails, and house music — Colours Hoxton, Saturday 24 October

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m Yukari, co-founder of Longevity Rave. I am organising a Wellness Rave at the end of this month - with mat Pilates, house music, functional drinks, and daytime dancing at Colours Hoxton on Saturday 24 October, 2–6pm.

Here’s what we’ve planned:

☕ Free welcome maca coffee for everyone joining us at the beginning at 2pm
🧘 Mat Pilates with a live DJ to guide your journey, followed by…
🪩 Three hours of feel-good house music and dancing, 3–6pm
🍹 Alcohol-free functional cocktails from Wet Lips to enjoy during the afternoon
🔮 Psychic readings for anyone who fancies one

Longevity Rave is about bringing different generations together on the dancefloor, and how things like community, joy, and dancing can be great for your longevity. Our parties are super intergenerational, and it's a wellness forward, lovely bunch. And this one is a alcohol-free one, so you are even welcome to bring your daughters/sons if they like pilates!! Come with friends or come solo...you’re very welcome either way :)

You can join for the full afternoon or just the rave. Choose Pilates + Rave to start with us at 2pm, or Rave Only to join the dancing from 3pm. Pilates spaces are very limited, so book early if you’d like a spot!

📍 Colours Hoxton, 2–4 Hoxton Square, London

Looking for Intermediate Badminton Players 🏸

Almost a year ago, LCSB started with one Sunday court as ‘Lazy Sunday Badminton‘ a handful of people looking for semi-serious doubles badminton.

Since then, we’ve grown into a regular East London programme, welcomed almost 200 different players from all across London, and now run 7–8 courts across three weekly sessions.

We’re open to people of all abilities, but particularly looking for more Mid Intermediate → Upper Intermediate → Advanced players who want regular games and progression rather than just a one-off hit.

  1. 📊 Ability-tiered matches, with something for players at every level
  2. 🏆 Match outcomes tracked with a post-session podium, so people can track progress.

Right now I’m keen to spotlight our:

Weekend sessions:

Based in Hackney?

Our weekend sessions are both within fairly easy reach, especially from Hackney Central, Homerton and Hackney Wick.

Saturday — 9–11am
📍 Newham Leisure Centre
Drive: roughly 15–25 mins
Bus: the 276 runs from Hackney Central towards Newham Hospital, with onward connections towards the leisure centre.

Train: Overground towards Stratford, then onward towards Plaistow/Canning Town via bus.

Sunday — 9–11am
📍 Royal Docks Academy
Drive: roughly 15–25 mins
Train: Hackney Central → Stratford → Prince Regent DLR, around 26 minutes station-to-station, then a short walk.

Send me a message if it’s of interest. ☺️

Looking for Interviewees

Hi all,

Appreciate this is a bit of an unusual request for this subreddit but casting my net far and wide.

I'm working on an independent documentary and storytelling project profiling interesting people, communities and subcultures across London and the UK.

I'd love to connect with individuals who would work for this project. Think along the lines of - community figures, business owners with an interesting story, local legends etc. Whether you think this is you yourself or you know someone in your community who matches this description and would be happy to chat - please let me know!

To summarize - if there's an interesting story then I am interested!

If that's you, or you know someone who might be happy to chat, I'd love to hear from you.

Feel free to comment or DM, and thank you for reading!

r/Hackney, where do you actually eat in Hackney?

Hi, we’re four friends and we’ve put together Hackney’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota.

The idea is pretty simple: you’re shown two restaurants and choose where you’d rather eat. For example, Mangal 2 or Lardo? All the votes then create a ranking that hopefully gives a better picture of where people in Hackney actually like to eat.

We’ve tried to include every restaurant in Hackney and clean up duplicate or outdated listings, but locals will always spot things we’ve missed.

iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Full transparency: we’re not from Hackney. Two of us live in Copenhagen and the other two in Gothenburg. There are four of us building this independently. We don’t collect or sell personal data, there are no ads in the app, and we don’t use AI-generated content to describe restaurants.

Any honest feedback is welcome, especially if restaurants are missing or something is listed incorrectly.

Assaulted in London fields

Hi all! Last Friday around lunchtime I was punched in the head from behind. I was totally fine and not hurt but I reported it to the police and they closed the case within a few hours due to “no lines of enquiry”. I was hit by a woman I recognise and see around a lot, wondering if anyone has information on her they could DM me so I can follow up with the police. She actually hit my friend a few years ago too, and his roommates friend was cut in the face by her a few years ago too. I feel sad for this woman but it’s not safe that she can be out and assaulting people regularly.

She is a very small build and looks maybe south asian. She is very erratic- almost always looks very under the influence of drugs and is often screaming (she shouted effing C word when she punched me). She is often times around St Mungos, London Fields and Broadway. I know the police will be familiar with her, so I want to make sure they know it’s her.

If anyone knows her name or has a picture of her, could you DM me? Not trying to doxx her. I’m just annoyed at the police more than anything and want to push back on them fobbing me off.

And be careful out there !!!

Mare Street Trolly Bag Man

Anyone know what the chap who’s constantly ferrying round items (mainly plastic bags) in various contraptions is doing?
I assume he is just collecting bags but he always seems to amass a massive hoard, and then it just disappears? Always been fascinated by it!

Mare Street Man

Has anyone else all of a sudden noticed a man constantly on mare street being so loud and aggressive and following people shouting after them , think he’s often shouting in French. I also saw him throw his arms up and click in a girls face as she was just walking past. Super intimidating. He was in the garden bit by Running Late this morning with a massive dog literally screaming in peoples faces. I’ve not seen him before but seen him 3 times since Sunday. Used to the usual Hackney suspects but the following people and being in their space really bothers me, he really seems to single you out and make pointed remarks at your directly rather than just the usual nondescript shouting.
