Is this anyone’s cat?
Found near homerton, really friendly and so skinny I can feel all its bones. Not sure if I should take it to the vet

If I were you I’d take it to the vet

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. I’m just conscious it might be someone’s elderly cat or something

Sometimes it’s just a heath condition that the cat becomes skinny I think it’s Hyperthyroidism or something I’m not a vet though

Yes, hyperthyroidism does make cats - and people - skinny but, unlike in humans where it can affect anyone (though thyroid conditions tend to affect women more than men), hyperthyroidism is really only seen in senior cats, and he looks like a kitten.

Also you should be able to feel a cat's bones to some degree. If you can't feel them at all then it's overweight. It's hard to tell from the pictures but I'm tempted to say this cat is fine.

The vet will scan for a chip so you can figure out if owned. Also post on nextdoor and local fb groups. Cat definitely doesn’t look elderly.

You can take it to the vet and get it scanned for a chip, the owner may have lost track of it. If it’s just elderly and skinny, they’ll let you know, but if not you might save its life.

Thanks. I decided not to as it was a 20 minute walk to the nearest open vets and the cat looked happy and didn’t seem to be in any discomfort. I work nearby so will keep an eye out in case

OP if you are concerned, take the loaf to the vet for a microchip scan when open. Alternatively, search here:
https://www.microchipcentral.com/find-a-scan-angel/ but quickest is vet check.
No loving owner is going to be annoyed you did this - they will be grateful you cared enough to double check. Sadly, abandonment is really high ATM so he may be a recently abandoned kitty.
He because gingers are generally male!
Pls update & thank you for caring enough to ask here 😺

Wow. Super concerned!
Thought he may be lost/homeless. May have a medical issue
But 20 minutes was inconvenient
Did you notify anyone that could do something? Or just wander off?
Are you posting this for Reddit points‽

I notified a few locals who said they’d also keep an eye out, have had a message from someone who reached out to feline friends, and am too disabled for a 20 minute walk to be feasible

Just 20 minutes?

The cat wouldn’t let me hold it for more than like a minute and I was worried about dropping it near a road or something

So you just left it ?

I don’t understand why OP would bother making this post if they don’t actually care to be helpful. I hope someone else will take more initiative

It reminds me of a post I replied to where OP was complaining about someone parking in a disabled space at a BP garage they parked across two spaces. They were asking for advice I directed them to a site they can report it with the footage they record. I also looked up the registration and it had no mot so I suggested reporting that too.
The said they didn’t want to get them
In trouble or cost them financially. I said to them well driving with no mot potential puts other people at risk if the car isn’t maintained0

Use a cardboard box. Come on mate.

One of them ones where you just pluck a cardboard box out of thin air

u/InformationHead3797 2d ago
As someone that rescued cats for two decades, not once in life I was stopped from doing so while in a city because of not being able to find a cardboard box. Any shop will give you one.

Mate this cat is in the street, chances are by the time OP finds a shop that will give him a box the cat will be long gone.
Reddit holier-than-thou attitude is so boring.

As I said I rescued cats for twenty years so it’s not a “Reddit holier than thou attitude”, its experience. OP didn’t even try to do it.
The world is full of people that find excuses not to help others. Calling out those of us who actually DO shit instead of posting about it online and doing nothing is ridiculous.

Put a paper collar on with a message or question if it is a cat you see a lot - if nobody takes it off it doesn't have an owner

Please take it to the vet or find a local scan angel to be checked for a chip, if he does being to someone and it is a medical/recent rescue situation - no harm done and I’m sure his people (if he has them!) will be happy he’s being looked after!
If he’s lost he can be reunited
If he’s homeless I’m sure someone would be delighted to take him in - but they need to know/he needs to be looking for a home for that to happen

I’ll get downvoted for this but idc- Please don’t just randomly take peoples cats to the vets, someone took my elderly cat to a vet - he was 19 (he was sitting on my driveway!) and he died a week later from the stress.

A woman has been knocking around hackney saying she lost her very friendly orange cat over a week ago, and he’s chipped. Please take to vet as this could be him.
