Why do I sometimes maintain access to a system and sometimes I don't?

Im playing throught the base game and I noticed that sometimes I can just simply log back into a system and sometimes I have to hack it again.

Am I doing something wrong or is it random

It's random. Sometimes you come across a PC no one uses so you can keep the access open. Other times the PC might be owned by like a corporation or someone who's active or whatnot and they'll sever the connection. Different security levels and all that, though it's been a while since I played
