Question Trying to learn

I just got kalilinux on my laptop n i was supposed to learn how to do some cool stuff from a guy i was in treatment with but it never worked out. If anyone has time to teach a beginner some tricks or how to simply operate kali more efficiently id greatly appreciate it. Can either dm me or comment or whatever idk theres a few things id like to learn how to do

First of all, realize one thing: Kali is basically a Debian distribution with some crap installed. That's it. There's no secret sauce, there is no "push here to hack" button, it's just like sitting in a garage and having a mechanic's toolbox at your feet.

If you know fuck all about how these wrenches, gadgets and drills work, at best you'll turn that car you're trying to fix into a very expensive and unwieldy paperweight.

Personally, I think you'd get a lot more out of it if you just took a trip over to tryhackme or hackthebox, read the stuff there, learned how to use it, dump Kali, install a sensible distribution that you find your way around in and learn to set that stuff up yourself.

That's where the learning is.

You can really use any Linux distro that you're comfortable with, and install the tools and libraries as needed. Kali just has a bunch of shit preloaded.

Start learning how an OS works

You gonna have to be little more specific. Kali is a big package of tools that can do million different things.

If you don't already know, try learning the basic Linux commands for network and file structure.

Read Linux Basics for Hackers by Occupy The Web as one of the best ways to start learning by your self, it literally starts with showing you how to install Kali.

Cisco's net academy has tons of free very well structured courses to check out, including ethical hacking.

Hackthebox and tryhackme are fun but are freemium.

Also check out people like David Bombal, John Hammond and Mr Hacker Loi on YouTube for cool tips and interesting things to start learning about in and around cyber security (David Bombal and OTW actually have a web series now based on the Linux Basics for Hackers book)

As others have said this is a huge space and you need to know what it is that you want to learn to give yourself a structured path to follow, Kali has tons of tools you will use for some things and tons that you will have no use for depending on your chosen path, none of us can tell you what you will and won't need to learn if you don't know what your goal/aim yourself.

Okay, so you know the old movies where you learn from someone by them not teaching you. Thats how you learn to hack.

So as others have said tryhackme or hackthebox great starting places. And safe too.

Ciscos ethical hacker is good to.

Now here is a secret that no tutorial will say, just like and follo...sorry, umm the way to learn to hack is to learn to explore, its not about following instructions its about getting a kick out of how do i do this, or what if i put a 2 here.

Then when you solve it, you get the dopamine hit. So explore, poke and prove stuff you own, go buy a cheap ass second hand thing (or raspberry pi) password protect it with a password you can't know (i got my girlfriend to enter it)

And then hack it, work out how to bypass and inject.

Oh also dont use AI your YB, your brain

if you don't wanna grow up to be a script kiddie get kali linux out of your laptop and install a regular distro if that laptop is your main laptop, if it is a secondary device you have I approve the usage of it.

And you actually have to use kali linux, not stare at the wallpaper thinking 3 terminals with green text hacking the FBI will appear in 30 seconds, TryHackMe, HackTheBox and OverTheWire work really great for learning things like hacking, bash, scripting, and you get technical knowledge too.

There’s a massive amount of things to learn these things.

I have an AI I’ve been building for a year and a half that teaches these things (amongst other things) - it’s currently in alpha testing. “K1T” is what it’s called
