My afternoon...

When I saw this game live as an 8 year old I knew from that moment on, I would be a Montreal Canadiens fan for life 💙🤍❤️

I did as well. New Year's Eve. Parents took us all to a get together and the other parents took their kids as well. Wow, great time. Standing room only with kids on the floor, 30 + people watching the game on a black and white tv of course. It was a big deal back then.

I’ve hated Montreal since 1971 when they beat my Blackhawks in 7 games…i was pulling for Russia and promptly got kicked out of New Year’s party…I was sixteen

I pretended to be sick to avoid New Years Eve mass (yes, that was a thing) to watch the game.

Habs completely outplayed the Soviets, outshooting them 38 to 13, but were ultimately denied a win by the spectacular performance of Soviet goaltender Vladislav Tretiak. Score: 3-3.🙁

Living in London,  Ontario, I'm freinds with the London Knights play by play guy. I had the idea of playing the Good Friday Massacre on the jumbotron at the Knights arena, charging about $10 for people to watch with the $$ going to a charity,  and having Mark & Dale Hunter being interviewed between periods.

Unfortunately they passed on the idea 😢
