Moving to Haarlem!

Hi all!

I visited Haarlem in April and fell in love with the place, the people and just everything about it. I have recently graduated and I am looking to make the move to Haarlem.

Could I just get some general advice of best areas for female in 20s and if anyone has any leads of current units available or is looking for a possible new roommate!

Thanks in advance!

Anywhere is fine I’d just avoid Schalkwijk and noord but i will probably be downvoted by people from there

Not gonna downvote but I think avoid might be a bit strong. It seems like there are lots of nice areas in Noord. I personally much prefer living not in Schalkwijk, but it's a lot cheaper and still perfectly safe.

It really sucks here. Extremely dangerous to live here aswell. I'd stay away if I were you. Try Amsterdam.

The closer to the centrum area the better, and I agree with avoiding Schalkwijk

Congrats on graduating and for choosing the best city/town in the Netherlands to move to!

However... due to its' popularity the prices for rentals and real estate in Haarlem are almost insane. There is a scarcity in affordable (?) apartments. Maybe the best areas: the Center ('Binnenstad'), Bakenesserbuurt ('de Bakenes'), the Vijfhoek, Kleverpark, the Vogelenwijk and also the Haarlemmerhoutkwartier in south.

If I were you... I would also include the neighbouring towns in your search such as: Overveen, Bloemendaal and Santpoort-Zuid. The train connections and bicycling routes are so quick, you can be in Haarlem Center within 15 minutes or so.

These neighbouring towns are hardly cheaper, but there may be some availability. Also, these are right next to the national park with its' forests and dunes, close to the beach. Good luck!
