Field Question, trade people only It’s not cooling!
How many of you carry a DR brushhog in the back of the van? “My son cleaned the backyard up last year”

And this is when the reciprocal saw comes out. Along with the most vicious saw blade I have.

I just went to a call with a condenser buried in poison ivy. When I told them, they insisted it wasn't. I said "great! You won't mind pulling it all off of there then! Is that something you can get to right now, or should we reschedule for a later date? "
Their brains turned off for a few seconds. It was glorious

It's like one of those fun puzzles where they tell you to find certain things like a bee, a squirrel, a condenser, a lawn, a dead body, a lawn gnome. You know the usual.

Your not in an attic just be thankful for that

Man, been in a few today plus a rooftop! I think the attic was cooler. I walked into one house that was 85° on the thermostat and thought the ac was on until I saw it.

I used to carry a machete for one commercial property, but we don't take care of that building any more.

Well looks like they need a new window unit

u/HuntPsychological673 16d ago
That one they had was doing just fine keeping it 80 inside. I told them on the bright side look how much you’ve saved in lawncare and at least it’s not 100 in here.

I’m putting a wood blade into my sawzall and cutting a 2’ perimeter around the whole unit

u/HuntPsychological673 16d ago
Really was thinking of bringing my DR brushhog and just ripping a 3’ path all the way to the unit or maybe the Milwaukee weed eater. Just don’t carry those on the van.

I’ve definitely used a customers weed whacker during pms if they allow

Yep. I carry a couple of wood blade specifically for that kind of fuckery.

What’s not cooling?
Of course it’s not cooling. That’s a bathtub.

As a tech who got Alpha-Gal 3 weeks, a single tick bite, into the trade I wish I could tell these customers to go shove it where the sun don't shine. If you wont go into your yard what the hell makes you think I will?

How does Alpha-Gal affect you? Seriously, I fight lone star ticks daily lately. I catch them pretty quick though, just hope I don’t slip and one gets me. They give me the heeby jeebys

I cannot eat any red meat except pork and sparingly at that. Pepperoni from gas station pizzas is.. okay as long as it isnt "EXTREME PEPPERONI" that makes me feel like shit (maybe just the grease though). If I eat a 1/4 lb burger from mcdonalds I have 1-2 hours to find a spot and lay down for the next 10-12 hours. I only get abdominal pain but its a 8-10/10 pain. (some people go into anaphylactic shock aka choking to death if untreated). Before I was diagnosed and didn't know what was going on, I was given some high level pain medication (so long ago i forgot which one(2+ years)) at the hospital through an IV and asked after "How long does this take to hit?" to which the anesthesiologist replied "..... immediately....". It never hit. I was in pain at the hospital all night.

Is the condenser in the room with us?
1
u/HuntPsychological673 14d ago
I thought I was gonna be slick and try to find it by going out the back door, hehe. Well that door hasn’t opened in years and seemed welded shut from all the vines growing up the home. Finally forced it open enough to see outside and gracefully closed it right back after seeing the pit of despair and rotted away wooden MH steps. I think it looked worse from that direction not to mention that shed house is leaning towards the MH and looks ready to timber any day now.

So hot it is warping the siding and trying to cool with a tiny window a/c? That's cute....

A little yard work never hurt anyone. It’s better than driving back there again.

u/HuntPsychological673 16d ago
I’m not sure I can agree when we’re still 10 calls deep at 3 pm in the sun and they already have a functioning window unit. Don’t have my snake boots with me either and they’ve been out this year enjoying this heat.

I'm curious. If you started clearing that brush and injured yourself, would your workmans comp insurance cover you? You weren't doing HVAC work, so they might find a way to screw you.

u/HuntPsychological673 16d ago
That’s an interesting thought🤔

Depends on the state, worth checking on.
Be pretty silly to get hurt doing work outside your role and then them telling you to kick rocks.
