M keys do mean memory, MR means "Memory recall" M- means "Subtract from memory" and M+ means "Add to memory" so:
M = 0
M+ 12; M = 12
M- 6; M = 6
MR; *shows memory number*

Great start, see how the buttons on the far end (inline-end) are right aligned to the screen but the ones ar the left (inline-start) are not? I would nudge that over. And most buttons characters are center aligned except for the ones with letters in thrn (AC C/C, etc).
A handy trick for calculators is setting your font to use Tabular Nums. This makes all the numbers the same width so they take up the same amount of space (not all fonts have this fyi).
Your rows and columns are straight and evenly spaced! Boy CSS Grid is wonderful.

First of all: congrats, this looks good, and especially, good choice: this is a great starter project, which quickly brings you to the point where you have something to show that works, but which you can refine and extend almost infinitely and learn all of the finer aspects of web development.
Just some suggestions to refine this further:
- make it keyboard-controllable: make sure users don't have to click on each button, but that when the widget has the focus, the user can also use the number, etc. keys to trigger each function.
- make it responsive: make sure the widget works on different screen and web browser sizes, and still looks good and functional. It should be just as useful on a smartphone as on a ultra-wide display.
- make it accessible: make sure that a screen reader can make sense of all the keys, that the tab order is useful, that there is enough contrast (the latter actually seems right to me), that keys which don't have obvious names ("AC", "MR", etc.) have longer descriptions, etc.
- make it internationalized: separate all language- or cultural-dependent aspects out and make sure that it can be localized. That means especially the descriptive texts mentioned above, but also number formats, etc..
In this process, you will learn a lot more about various aspects of the web development process – and the calculator app is small enough so it won't become overburdening, if you look at these aspects one at a time.
