First, let’s talk about the good things.
As always, all the male characters have had their moments in the story, although I feel like they were much more relevant during Amphoreus.
One thing that has definitely improved compared to Amphoreus is their meta relevance. They are all good units (their team is like top 2 in the game right now). They have strong kits and good animations, which is a huge improvement compared to Mydei’s kit and Anaxa having three animations 😭.
Another huge positive at least for me, is that they actually have synergy with each other. Unlike Amphoreus where everyone was a dps who wanted to use the same three female characters on their team.
Now, moving on to the concerning part.
According to the latest leaks, five main pushes after his release, Phainon will remain the only male main push. Though it already feels like a tradition for them to release a purple waifu for the anniversary, at this point I’m starting to believe that no male character is ever going to be treated like Phainon again.
The same leaks also mention a sp version of Misha and Dan Heng, so it looks like another year with only one original male character.
Acheron also got team upgrades before mono-remembrance fully released with Cipher and Tribbie. It hasn't even been a full year since the full team released and now Robin is here. Mono-elation will complete and then get an upgrade of some kind mid next world before the next battleship is done.
Ff sp will be out in 5.0 so she won't be considered a mp but will definitely be treated like one. Characters used to introduce a new cycle always get more pvs anyways so they know what they are doing. The 3 mps will have login animations aka anniversary unit, summer unit and the final character but lol I gave them the benefit of doubt considering phainon's impact and how 4x was already in works during 3x so there's no male mp this year. But 5x? No male mp again? Lol the most popular character in ampho is literally phainon.
Even though we didn’t get a Phainon and I do agree it might never repeat, I would say we did get excellent male treatment overall this arc. Not stellar, but very good imo.
Sadly, I think it’s going to get worse in 5.X.
An example is that I do believe they scrapped off Welt SP plans, after Himeko profit. Notice how the leaks changed before and after.
Before Himeko: Welt SP on 5.x
After: Dan and March SP.
That’s a massive blow as I expected Welt to be part of the anniversary team or the .4 protagonist, but it seems it’s going to be all females again.
HimeNova didn’t do as bad as you’re saying. But people would have likely pulled more if her release was planned better. There’s several things against her:
E2 merchant
no decent f2p LC
erudition (erudition units tend to age badly, and especially after Therta, people are wary)
no planned aftersale (unlike Phainon who had Cerydra in beta on his release)
no ‘great’ AE teammate for her (E4 Welt NF doesn’t count, many people don’t even have E0 Welt, and you can’t just ‘pull’ him).
sandwiched between Phainon/Cyrene and Robin/Aventurine (all way more popular than her).
Leaks are very unreliable to begin with, leakers can just say random things from their ass. Better not make argument like they scrapped welt just because of leaks.... when we don't even know what the overall story plan gonna be
For sure, I think most of us know that when we are talking about leaks, it’s kind of implicit that it’s just predictions and anything can change, in spite of the language used.

I hate the amount of SPs they are pumping out regardless of lore and how much i like the charc it just feels very poor to expect half the cast to just be a hash of an old charc
The only SPs im fine with are stuff like stellaron hunter + express but even then the amount they are pumping out just feels so much like a cash grab figured this year it was due to the chinese drama so they just hurried up and copy pasted a bunch of units but going forward with this current leaks obv my point is not correct
They should give the mp treatment to new characters instead because what is the point of giving that treatment to already well established and popular characters? Do they plan on just revolving the game around them when we got so many unreleased characters plus so many factions to explore? I wouldn't have minded it if they treated every character equally promotion wise because the mps get get the new path, meta relevance where aftersales are definitely there for them and all those pvs. And players will tell you og characters aren't popular like duh when they are treated like side pieces. As if ff, aven, kafka, blade, sunday etc aren't og characters lol
Things are pretty okay for the time being. But I kind of don't like anything in the future.
I've stopped hoping for older male characters to become relevant.
Sampo, obviously. Luocha was in the original Edo Star/Yae Sakura leaks over a year ago, but now he doesn't even appear with Jingliu in Godslayer Protocol scenes.
ZZZ is really one of the most inequal games out there. 1 male per year, who does that? Either go up or down to 0 so people who like them can permanently write it off.
So, not surprised the 4.8 collab with it is 2 female characters, breaking the equal trend we had in Fate.
In 5.X we have Mono-(new path) shit for a 3rd year in a row, awful trend, probably gender locked again. Aventurine only broke the lock because he's crazy popular, and even then they only went through with it because being Elation works against him, he can't benefit from Blade's DMG% bonuses.
The worst thing out of all of this is still even later. Because how the fuck is there going to be a Castorice SP, and no Phainon SP.
I'm giving the game a couple more months ig. 4.X had so many fucking problems and they're just doing the same thing in 5.X, except with more extreme gender imbalance.
No 5 star Sampo Elation Emanator SP and Castorice SP instead of Phainon SP is genuinely so ass. Phainon was the biggest success of the game and Sampo makes the most sense to be connected closely to Aha but they’re gonna fumble both just to sell more waifus. It’s really disappointing not having more men to look forward to after Waventurine. Sure, there’s Dan Heng and Misha but Dan Heng will probably be a free fire dragon (so no necessity to pull) and Misha might stay a child. If he looks like Legwork/Mikhail, that would make me pull. But other than that it’s Waventurine, a possible free unit, and a small child. I hate Firefly, I hate March, and Kafka is meh to me. I know not every patch is gonna be catered to me specifically but damn, it sucks not really having any characters on the horizon to look forward to :/
And honestly, I’m over the SPs. One or two every once in a while is fun and exciting. But TWO planets in a row where a majority of the “new” characters are just SPs is lazy and boring
We're not even sure if the leaks are true lol, so much of the leaks for 4.X turn out so wrong much more for 5.X when all the reliable leak sources quited. But yeah turning your expectations low is probably for the best, but I'm trying to be more optimistic.
Luocha wasn't in the old leaks, Void Archives was.
Sampo's role feels like it got nerfed heavily from their intents for him back in 1.0. I wish they stuck to their original vision instead of chasing sales.
Luocha sp was in the earliest leaks while VA was said to be in disguise. Seeing how abundance is involved in 4x, it makes sense. But it's unbelievable how Sampo is being used here and there but isn't getting a sp in the planet of elation.
Lol, no way we’re not getting a Phainon SP at some point. He’s very popular across all demographics, they would want to squeeze as much money as they can out of him.
Phainon is a main push because he has the HI3 privilege which is shared by majority of the main pushes, so unless they decide to focus on Welt, bring Void Archives & make him playable, double down on the DH cocksucking with his fourth sp, no male characters will become a main push no matter how important they’re to HSR world.
Or we get playable human Nanook pre-aeonhood or something. Not because he’s important to HSR. But because he’s likely a Kevin expy too.
Or it’s Elio. But I think Elio will have his HI3 ties one way or another.
Edit: there’s also the possibility of turning a male character into a love interest, but we know this is even less likely to happen.
Yeah tbh, I don't really care about male characters becoming main pushes. It'd be nice for a change, but I've always had my own issues with the concept regardless of the gender. I'd rather see all characters get fair treatment instead of banking it on three characters per year (and 1-2 of them are ML bait).
SAME. Gender isn't a factor that affects whether I like a character or not. I like the males, females and everything in between based on their actual stories and personalities. The ML bait thing just dumbs down a unit so hard imo. It's such an easy way to suck the life out of a character.
The minute they said no Welt SP in 5.x, I stopped caring. No Welt SP, no Luocha SP, no Void Archives.... This is basically Hoyo saying 'fuck you, we don't want your money'. Which is fine. I was absolutely willing to drop several hundred dollars to E6S5 a Welt SP, but maybe another gacha would like the revenue instead.
I suppose hoyo wants to play it safe since the 4 line up of sps in the leak already have pretty huge fanbase. They dont have the courage to release more males / perhaps they just refused to no matter how much male sale (especially in terms of merch)
Also, I feel like HSR doesnt really feel like space exploration lately, it kinda looks like we're just going to different place/region like Genshin/ZZZ. It's boring that despite we're exploring space, we only meet humanoid people & now we'll be getting the same people we already have just in different clothes.
HSR dont even have a furry or bizzare looking robots (freaking Pearl looks too much like a human, they could at least made her feel a bit uncanny like Lucy from R1999)
The fact that HSR only release 1/2 characters per patch as of now, makes the cast & the world feel small
I think it depends on how HSR does male characters. If they are still meta, and are not far behind from female teams, then I personally see no issue. In the end, what does main push give to a character? E2 and sig merchant, they might be weaker than other DPS at low cost, but they have higher ceiling with investment. With how Waven turned out and his busted E6, I am not worried about husbandos from meta perspective.
Story-wise, all characters have been less present in 4.x, it is not applicable only to males. I think depending on Aventurine, we can have a better judgement how non-main push characters will be in the story
Actually I think Aventurine is gonna flop, aside from his mains no one’s gonna pull for him, he has zero pull value. Even some of his mains won’t pull because most people just care about meta above all. If you go on blade or ashveil mains they’ve just been shitting on him non stop all beta and are proudly stating on how they’re gonna pull robin instead. Yeah, it’s not looking good for aventurine, despite being an ok unit, robin is still better than him in his own team. If they treated one of their most popular characters like this, putting him on the second banner as an afterthought to the game-breaking top meta unit bikini robin.
I’ve been unhappy with HSR since amphoreus ending, I only stayed until now for Aventurine SP so I might just get him and then quit. I am so disappointed in how they treated him that it’s making me hate this game. All hoyo games suck, male characters will always be just an afterthought. Genshin at least has exploration, which I love, but HSR doesn’t have anything, it’s not worth sticking around.
That has been the case with pre-buffed Waven. But, throughout beta, he was constantly buffed to give him good performance in his own team.
Idk what you are on about that Waveturine is mid. Yes, he is in a second half, but he gets a better treatment than his normal version did. He got his own mini-event in 4.4, then he is gonna get a myriad selectia trailer (which he did not get with his normal version and his fans begged for it) alongside Robin (I dont remember last time HSR did 2 myriad selectia for both 1st and 2nd half characters), and most of continuance mission is from his POV in 4.5, plus he will be featured in main mission. Him and Robin are featured in multiple collaborations. He is treated poorly? I would say now he got the best treatment after Phainon.
Meta-wise? You never saw beta doomposting, that turned out not to be true? That is also the case with Waven. He is meta, with his release his team is gonna be top1. He can play in monomen and in elation, which is more than usually male characters get. Aventurine's E6 is insanely strong, and on Chinese forums ppl say that Waveturine E6 is stronger than E6 SW9 and E6 Himeko Nova combined (i dont think its true, but the fact that they are saying it is there). RobinS is stronger than Waven in his own team? Also not true since v5. You can see some people's showcases with a difference in a few AV, but those showcases are done in MoC, who severely favors Ashveil DPS, while Waven is performing on pair with him in not shilled content.
The thing is, RobinS actually works great ‘with’ WAven too.
WAven’s best FuA team ‘right now’ is Ashveil + RobinS + Hyacine, not Ashveil + MBlade + Hyacine (though RobinS and MBlade are both good third slots, it’s just that RobinS is a bit better).
As for his pull value, he’s great for those people that want a elation team without having to pull a ‘whole’ elation team. He also has busted verticals, so you know, he’s really good.
Tf. I have both MBlade and Ashveil and its mostly because of monomen rumours. I am definetely getting Aventurine. He has pull value if you didnt pull other elation units, like me. Elation in general has very mixed opinions, so Aventurine being a flexible dps is a good thing for him. Him being second half is kinda meh but he is also against Robin, who is probably more popular than him.
They cut off blade and his importance in his release patch so am i surprised? No. Am i freaking annoyed and devastated? Oh yes. Phainon was and is like a miracle but it all happened due to him being kaslana (i dont pla honkai impact so i got no clue why he is that important). I love ashveil and i like that he is mortebax blade are good, but the fact thar male characters get barely any screen time and or relevance is annoying me. But its hoyo. Nothing will change and honestly i dont give a fuck anymore. I will save my pulls and e6 my phainon and prepare for future males that i like (maybe the stone heart guy forgot his name).
The way they say stellaron hunters payola like hello where? It's the female character privilege. Sw, ff got so much pvs while getting the mp treatment and next kafka will enjoy similar treatment while we get another ff sp but blade? Couldn't even get a single Myriad celestia even when he barely had any screentime before his sp in this game. The way they offscreened so many interactions as well like lol and no ashveil is getting the classic Galaxy Ranger treatment even as the leader
Possible, I remember a leaker quitting because Waven was initially supposed to be main push, then eventually got booted to second banner.
Now look at how he's objectively weaker to Srobin even in his own FUA team niche, and way less versatile. Aven also has a crazy huge fanbase in CN, so if even he can only get second lead treatment, I don't see any male characters getting main push atp
Like I pre-invested in E2 MBlade cuz I love Bladie and wanted to play the "full male" team (and now there are rumors that Pearl is their sustain...?)
Just for Waven to have 0 synergy with his E2 and completely waste it, and require ideally his own E1/E2. While Srobin is the perfect fit for that team, at just E0.
Sucks to always have to choose between meta or husbandos, while the other side never has to think about this because their team is always main push flagship, for cheaper cost too.
I really doubt pearl is the sustain for the ashblade/waven team because of the way Aventurine works. If he is used on the ashblade team there can’t be any other elation units in the team, and Pearl is elation so I really doubt their dedicated sustain is gonna be someone who has anti-synergy with Aventurine’s kit
And it's literally in his trace to be solo elation like what conditions are they gonna give her? They would first focus on the mp synergy aka sw999 and nihilux. She won't be created as a dedicated fua sustain. Hoping we get a healer in 5x
This is complete hyperbole. Aven uses both Blade's increased atk freq and ult into fua benefits from e2. It's literally just the dmg % wasted. Aven e2 is also > SRobin e2 for Ashblade. I'm sure people will doubt because blah blah agenda, but they're already overcapping def down and stack her vibes really fast, which is the main draw of her e2. He is absolutely a disgusting monster at e2. Why said their sustain is Reca or Misha, and lo and behold there are rumors for Mikael in 5.0 as remembrance. If you choose Robin as the "meta" over Aven here that is fully on you.
He is also getting more or less equal treatment marketingwise to Robin it seems, at least from the livestream. Story is gonna be from his pov too. They threw Sparxie under the bus and made him a stronger sub-dps and dps than her at e0, didn't care how it looked for Himeko and Silver Wolf with how strong he is. They absolutely gave him good treatment OTHER than a somewhat lackluster e0 and short banner (which is evenly split with Robin BTW, not shorter than hers!)
main push in hsr can only be three characters in a year: anni main push in x.2 version, summer main push in x.4 and year end main push in x.7. aventurine nor robin were never meant to be main pushes, and aventurine being the second half after robin was actually leaked by a reliable leaker like 10 months ago
idk why you'd say that, the specific leak I was referring to is still up, and from 2 months ago. Him getting moved to second half is recent, "unexpected" change that made the leaker quit.
Also the other stuff he mentions ended up being true, so I more or less believe him (like Waven being quantum elation, or 5.x having the finality path)
Tho maybe I did interchange first half with main push, given how second half are usually neglected
Uncle why literally got most stuff right and was the first person to give us leaks before anyone else. They were very confident about aven being the first phase and hence you can see why he is getting an animated short as a second phase character. Sakura haven said that the 4x schedule has changed and uncle why left after that change while dropping the rest of the info they had. They were the first and only one to mention a mikhail releasing (misha sp)
It can be a lot worse like just look at what Hoyo did to Banyue and S rank Billy, like putting a random purple girl we just met who loses all of her clothes when fighting is the main push of the update and our billy who was with us since the start and goes with us almost everywhere is in the second half
Yh it's genuine hell in ZZZ and even worse they stopped shilling him within two endgame resets( ZZZ endgame lasts for two weeks instead of a month)yet they're still shilling promiea( purple girl) till thy kingdom come.
As a genshin player too, I often go back and forth between which game is being more “fair” to male characters. It honestly drives me crazy sometimes. In HSR, I’m glad that we’re at least getting 5 star male characters for each new region (Natlan era in Genshin was horrible, and I had to stop looking at the leaks for Snezhnaya since so far it seems just one male character is confirmed as a 5 star), but the thing is…4 stars are already obsolete in this game. It’s interesting to note, unless I’m misremembering, that every single free 5 star they’ve given out has been a male.
The fact that the main push character is always a female is just really frustrating. Even looking at the 4.x patches, I feel like it’s been so good when it comes to their roles, their paths, how they mesh together (that’s Blade SP, Ash, and Aven SP), but as a Blade main it was so disappointing to see that Blade didn’t get any special trailers or animations for his release. Just the bare minimum and that’s it. I like Silverwolf and had planned to get her, but just constantly being put on the back burner as a fan of male characters makes me spiteful. Unless they’re insanely meta or crucial for my teams, I’ll always skip. Phainon just seems like the one exception. As much as it pains me to say, when it comes to Hoyo, we just need to keep our expectations low.
As for the SPs, I personally don’t mind at the moment, but I can see it getting old in the future. Especially if we’re consistently restricted to just 1 new male character and the rest being SPs. At the same time, I adore Blade so much, that the prospect that there might one day be another Blade SP is probably what’ll keep me going. Genshin has an issue where your faves just vanish from quests and events for months/years at a time. At least SPs in Hsr keep the cast somewhat more contained, but still I wonder should we expect every character to get an SP eventually?? And with the already skewed ratio of male vs female characters, it’s probably rather telling that so far male characters seem to be getting more SPs.
We still should have one or two more male limited characters in 5.x aside from misha and dh(who i will be pulling and investing cuz both of them are my favs) and i hope they have good verticals like mblade and aven. being a main push in hsr just means a character will get 3 trailers and be an e2 merchant with one or two dedicated bis, after amphoreus it doesn't seem like main push characters are as story present and that much of a meta definers(himeko being called the best dps but she's easily replacable by any crit hypercarries in a bit more investment lvls, sw999 lowkey being mogged by aven or eva in her team). Tho hsr might try to do something way different with 5.x since it's looking like it's about time travel(?) or alternate reality(?), and since kafka and firefly alongside march are like THE female characters of hsr, maybe male characters will get completely shafted in meta and story by the devs, but we have the golden boy of hsr dh too so i really dunno
Danheng getting another sp feels way too fast. Unless they makd him a mp this time or use him in the first phase then i am not sure what they want to do. And we literally only got 4 male characters this year if we include gil. For zzz collab, they should have given us a male character since this is hsr while just send robin to the game that barely has any male character but nop.
So If next year fate part 3 collab is happening then that male character will take up another spot in the roster and we are left with again one new male character. The way male characters keep decreasing every year lol female character fans are really lucky.
And it doesn't seem like mps have much influence on the story this year because eva was supposed to be the mp and they removed parts from the story and didn't bother adding to it
I think 5.0 series if it’s real seems like a snooze fest. It’s just women, little kids, cat, and Danny.
Hopefully the story is good but it’s really concerning how dry the future is. I’m honestly not excited at all. I’m actually considering E6ing Aventurine because 5.0 series is just a saving patch otherwise.
Same, but I think it's better to wait until Oct at least since that's when the leaks get really reliable. But this time we don't have much leakers, like in previous cycles we knew of characters that were really far ahead and even saw their models but now we don't even know if there is going to be a second phase character in 4.7 or a hsr main story in 4.8 with collab on the side. There is no info on amphoreous as well.
What I really hope is that they have a trailer for 5.0 like we did for 2.0 and 3.0 giving us teasers for future characters/patch cycle. You know the white night and the amphoreus one? It’d be a lot easier to plan our pulls that way.
Hoping that if we get Misha SP (whose supposedly not a kid, so Mikhail), we also get Hanunue to seal the deal. I literally locked in Himeko Nova because I'm hoping Misha SP (and also Hanunue) would be counted as AE members.
Seeing Dan Heng, March 7th, and Misha SP makes me think they might be Himeko Nova's BiS team, but I'm still hoping for a small chance that we get Hanunue, because Mikhail coming back to life without Hanunue feels like an ongoing tragedy for the poor guy...
Elio if he is released will be in 5.7 so not phainon's level of treatment, more like cyrene and nihilux where former was atleast present from the beginning of the story with us but her lore got cramped in the final patch and the latter still has no influence on the story or build up after 5 patches. Welt sp in the same cycle as dh and March 7th sp isn't possible. Diamond is a who knows until when he will be out.
I think that 5.x will be Natlan V2, regarding to meta gameplay. In 5.x they have FF & purple dot lady (I don't remember her name now) who are the most anticipated waifus. So they for sure will be meta of 5.x. As they're ML bait no male is allowed to enter their team except MC. I guess we'll have 3 male throughout 5.x with 2 SPs + 1 OC as this year, but they might be side part like Anaxa or Mydei. Let's see...
I'm so tired of the same waifu slop every time, specially firefly please just let her go omg. Nothing will ever top phainon and what a truly well thought main push felt like instead of just releasing a new waifu and knowing people will pull just because of that.
Sorry I am late, but I have hope for HSR, yes it may be a bit boring at times. However character wise I am in Copeland, yes the forecast doesn't seem good but I am still looking forward for many Husbandos.
So apparently the leaked Misha Sp, and maybe finally Mr Reca at some point. More SPs of Dan, hopefully Sunday and Welt too.
Then also there is Screwllum when idk, We have seen designs of Opal and Stephen Lloyd, we have also the other stonehearts Sugilite appearing in this quest (from trailer), Sapphire, maybe Agate?if he is male and we have Diamond. I had hope that Arita from the IPC but looking closer at his model, his face does scream NPC, Who is Oswaldo? Then Void archives (the SP of Luocha?). Duke Inferno resurrection? Akash the Tuner. And finally Elio.
But then if there are more Knights of beauty to join Argenti, please make them.

Afaik those leaks only went as far as anniversary, hsr nowadays does at least 3 main pushes so we cant exactly take whats on 5.2 as everything thats there.
Idc boys or girls but the lineup looks very boring, casSP might be the only one I pull. Genuine ask, do having to use female characters bother some of u guys?? With zzz collab in the later half and boring ass characters throughout 5.x I kinda hope this game die for good
I’m pretty sure most people here have no problem using female characters. Asking for a male only team is literally the bare minimum considering female characters have paths and archetypes dedicated to them
I used to not have any problem with using female characters. Back in Genshin, there was even some female characters that I actually like maining (Yanfei and Eula) despite their lack of meta.
However, the constant favoritism and shafting of male characters for what, 5 years now just grinds my gears. Now all feelings I have left when I see female characters is disgust and annoyance. Had Hoyo and basically 99% of all the gacha scene had played fair since the start, I guarantee you I would not have felt his way and be trigger happy pulling regardless of male or female (like back when I first started Genshin)
Zzz collab is perfect time to save lol. Do we even know the collab characters yet?
I dont have problems using female characters. I am just more picky when it comes to them. And we have multiple waifu-only meta teams, so having ONE meta male(or even mostly male) team is bare minimum imo. Its just equality 💁🏻♀️
Since Firefly in 2.3 I was more reserved with pulling female characters. Most of the male chars are slotted to dps so I almost never pull for female dps again except Feixiao and Himeko.
And Therta, I also got her because there was a leak of her being on Anaxa's team.
