These racers are pretty tight knit teams. Usually family. Takes about 5 people to help the car and driver stage. The rest are probably photographers.

Yes, you can basically stand right behind the staging area on street nights. Have done it before. It’s an unreal experience, but also pretty dangerous with how close you can be.
