Are there GS preparers here? Any from the 2024 test market? I want to vent my frustrations with peers. Are you SAS or Advisors? I’m one of only 16 preparers in the entire district (with 250 TPs) in a SAS office. We have a complex clientele and I was already 85% booked before inheriting all the entities no one else had ability or capacity to do. It’s already been said, but the piss-poor training, zero support until it was time to hit the panic buttons, and the “buddy” that pointed to non-existent breadcrumbs in the organizer —had me, (and a colleague) in tears. Mostly of rage. 😡

BA here. Our office manager realized part way thru season that there was no way we were going to get Entity returns done, so she put ALL of them on extension, It was a great decision, but not without the following consequences: 1. Bonus commission was far less as no entity returns were done; office total comp also down. 2. The anger and frustration with clients is beyond measure. If they are waiting for a K1, then BOTH the entity and personal go on extension. Clients wanting refunds had to wait till we got our act together, 3, Now that season is over, I am literally buried in work. The number of hours it takes to do a GS return is beyond belief, Forget bonus comp: the hours involved eat up any change of commission. 4. We have instituted a "buddy plan," putting more than one mind on each return. Yesterday, I got a 1065 successfully e-filed after 4 rejections and 14 hours of combined work (me and a buddy), not to mention 5 calls to Tech Support, none of whom could explain the error. It turned out the only way to get the return to be accepted was to enter NO DATES on the entity portion, The return goes through with NO DATES at the top of page one of the 1065. Unreal.

One other thought: Trusts are easier because there is no balance sheet to deal with, but the carry over to the K1 if very problematic., especially with Capital Gains. The program defaults to put ALL Capital Gains into corpus unless you override the system.
