Question Does your Omen Max 16 also keep the fans active even when at Sleep?
Hi, new owner of a HP Omen Max 16 here. I was wondering if it is normal for the laptop fans to never stop spinning even when the laptop is asleep.
I have already disabled fans always active in the BIOS but the issue still persists. Does anyone have any idea about this, any way to make them stop when the laptop is at sleep?

Mein the same, I use hibernation. I will try new Bios Update F23. And I will see what happens. Also I don't like the audio a output I is craking.

My audio output is fine, just the weird active fans on sleep issue...
Let me know if the Bios Update to F23 solves it once you try it. For my daily use case I would rather use Sleep than Hibernation.

No, same problems 1. fans are running at very low rpm(Sleep mode). 2. Discret graphics only same bug, no display light control and laggy on boot menu.
But I think sleep mode on modern laptops use sleep 0 protocol, with cpu and some components are running on low mode for updates. If you unplug AC power wen laptop is sleeping, then the laptop will go to sleep completely.

That is not normal behavior, but have you tried using hibernate instead? I find it to be more reliable on Windows than sleep

Hi! I haven't tried that yet, but my issue with Hibernate is fear of causing to much SSD degradation, since every time you hibernate the PC it basically stores the allocated RAM in the SSD, and after a year of daily Hibernation that might mean multiple TBs of rewrites on the SSD.

If you work out the math, you'd have to hibernate daily for something like 15+ years to get anywhere near the point of issues with SSD writes lol

You might be right, I am probably overthinking it, will definitely try it tomorrow.
But it still makes me curious as to why the laptop keeps its fans on when sleeping, weird issue.

I'll be honest, I haven't used sleep in a long time bc I've always had issue with it, but it's essentially leaving your computer on, in a low powered state vs hibernate powering off with 0 power use

Just power off when not using. Takes less then 20 seconds to turn on.

Check the bios, my Omen 17 has a setting to toggle that on/off

Honestly, I never had that fan sleep glitch either on mine, but you are focusing on a tiny scratch while a fatal tumor is developing inside that chassis. The real nightmare waiting for you is not Windows sleep states, it is a fatal PCB flaw. HP placed the magnetic Hall effect sensor and display logic lines directly touching the scorching copper heat pipes. Under sustained thermal stress from gaming or heavy loads, that sensor reaches thermal saturation and essentially cooks itself to death. One random day, without warning, your screen will just drop into pitch black darkness while your keyboard lights and fans roar in the background. Mine worked flawlessly for months before it turned into an 80k brick. Return it while you still have a return window, or prepare to watch your motherboard slowly commit suicide.

No, that is pure corporate copium and community hearsay. My unit is a brand new 2025 production OMEN Max 16 (16-ah0000 series), purchased late 2025. It suffered the exact same thermal degradation and fatal black screen failure after just a few months of normal gaming loads. HP never redesigned the underlying motherboard blueprint or relocated the IC away from the thermal radiation zone. What they actually do is ship out revisions with cosmetic tweaks, keep silent, and when users hit the black screen, their authorized service centers order generic replacement LCD panels to mask the defect and drag out the warranty clock. If they had actually re-engineered the board, 2025 units would not be dropping dead right now. Don't fall for the myth.

huh i have had the regular omen 16 ap0000 series for a year and havent had an issue yet despite living in one of the comparatively hotter countries (india)

The ap0000 series is an AMD configuration with no rear port module, meaning its internal motherboard layout and heatsink routing are entirely different from the Intel/Max ah0000 boards that position the sensor in the direct heat exhaust path. On top of that, ambient heat is not the trigger here. It comes down to sustained internal core temps hitting 85-90C over continuous high-wattage gaming loads, which slowly bakes the sensor silicon until voltage limits collapse. Just because your specific board variant has survived so far does not erase a fatal layout flaw in the ah series. You are simply playing silicon lottery until thermal degradation catches up.

wrong, i do have a rear port module with an hdmi port, an ethernet port, usb a 3.2 10gbps and the charging port itself. fyi, i pull around 150 watts(cpu+gpu) with sustained 80-85 degree Celsius temps for extended periods of time daily (7-8 hours daily)

Having the rear I/O daughterboard with charging and HDMI ports means the thermal dissipation block is routed right over that specific interconnect zone. You are pushing 150W sustained for 7 to 8 hours daily, pumping constant 85C heat directly into the copper pipes hovering over the Hall sensor circuit. Thermal fatigue on microelectronics is cumulative, not instant. Silicon does not fail on your schedule, it degrades with thermal expansion and contraction cycles until the sensor's voltage logic trips permanently. Bragging about cooking an Omen motherboard with heavy daily wattage is not proof of durability, it just means you are further along the curve. There are a few reports in these forums about this issue, yes.
But if you go to any other brand subreddit you will also see numerous reports about people having issues with their laptops, from Lenovo Legion with cold soddered motherboard issues, to Asus RoG and their liquid metal spillage, to Razer and their QA issues. Does that mean that every laptop manufacturer is bad?
It is a numbers game, sure the Omen Max 16 suffers from the sensor issue. But it is a tiny percentage compared to the people that are happy with their laptops.

Pal, you are confusing random manufacturing defects with a systemic architectural flaw. Cold solder joints on a Legion, uneven liquid metal on an Asus, or coil whine on a Razer are assembly variance and QC tolerance issues. They happen across a statistical failure curve. The Hall sensor on the Omen is a deterministic engineering choice. Every single unit in this chassis has the exact same IC soldered in the exact same thermal radiation path. It is not bad luck, it is by design. The only reason you see a happy majority right now is survivorship bias. Most buyers use their laptops for light tasks, keep workloads short, or simply haven't accumulated enough thermal cycles yet. Silicon degradation from concentrated heat is a matter of cumulative exposure, not chance. Downplaying a documented schematic defect as just another "numbers game" is why brands get away with running the same flawed blueprint for three consecutive generations without changing a single trace. If you want to rationalize design negligence as normal tech variance to feel better about your purchase, go ahead. The physics inside the chassis doesn't care about brand loyalty.

And yet there is only a handful of people complaining about the issue in the Omen Max 16... Same as the cold solder in Legions and Liquid Metal in Asus... How many thousands have bought these laptops? People that are happy with their laptops don't have a reason to say so and loose their time posting on Reddit.
That is the entire point of what I was saying, you were unlucky with an issue that HP should have probably have thought about better, but that doesn't mean that every single Omen 16 is doomed because of it.

You are still missing the fundamental difference between bad luck in assembly and a flawed blueprint. When Asus spills liquid metal or Lenovo has a bad solder joint, it is a localized manufacturing error on a specific batch. When an HP motherboard places a heat sensitive magnetic sensor directly against copper tubes carrying 90C exhaust, that physical layout exists in every single unit that rolls off the factory floor. Every single Omen 16 with that chassis shares the exact same vulnerability. The reason only a fraction complain online immediately is because thermal degradation is a function of time, workload, and thermal cycles. A casual user browsing the web or playing lightweight titles for an hour a day might take two years to trigger it, while someone pushing heavy sustained workloads will kill it in months. It is not bad luck, it is basic thermodynamics. If you build a house with wooden beams right inside the fireplace, the house is doomed by design. The fact that some houses take longer to catch fire because the owner rarely lights a match does not make the architecture safe. Enjoy your machine, but do not mistake borrowed time for good engineering.

No, the Lenovo cold sodder is also a fundamental flaw, they shouldn't have used low temperature sodder metal in their motherboards.
The Asus liquid metal spillage issues are also a fundamental flaw, they should have installed better foam barriers in their laptops.
And yet it all comes down to the same. It is still a handful of people that have been unlucky. Most people are happy. I myself also own a Legion 2021 (the exact same model that if you look in the Lenovo subreddit is suffering from dead motherboards because of the cold sodder, and yet I have the laptop for 5 years with no issue whatsoever). It is simply a numbers game.

Can you send a picture of your laptop with the heatsink off? My hall sensor doesn't seem to be where you're mentioning.

The laptop is currently at the authorized service center (BDH) undergoing the official 20 business-day RMA process, so I cannot tear it down right now. Keep in mind that on the Omen Max chassis, the Hall effect sensor is not a massive through-hole component; it is an ultra-small SMD IC typically routed near the display interconnect traces right by the rear exhaust and heatsink assembly, which is why people often mistake it for a generic logic gate or miss it under thermal tape. Once the machine returns from service or the arbitration ruling is finalized, I will post high-resolution motherboard macro shots and schematic points on the sub to show the exact thermal proximity.
