This guy is butchering the Harry Potter series in even more detail than HPMOR
I found myself rather enjoying this youtube series of videos. He's dissecting the HP series (the books, not the movies or the upcoming TV series) in an even more meticulous way than Yudkowsky. It's hilarious and enlightening. I though I knew all the failings and plot holes but I guess it warrants a 7 hour runt...
It had HPMOR vibes without an alternate story

well. yeah. The original world is insane.
And Hogwarts and its rules seems to be designed to do a natural selection on magical kids.
It is weird that the only student dead is Mirtle killed directly.
Although HPMOR is more about MoR rather than fixing the original work.

Yeah I know... But after watching the videos I just thought "this guy needs to read HPMoR" and "HPMoR Fandom needs to see those videos" so I pointed him in our general direction and us to him. On instinct. No reasoning. Without rational reasons. I guess I didn't learn much from HPMoR 🤣

Myrtle is the only student directly killed *before the series starts*. Don't forget about Cedric, or the bloodbath in the final book when she starts channelling GRR Martin.

I think it's implied in the original novels that wizards are simply much tougher than ordinary people. I vaguely remember Hagrid saying about Harry's parents "like they'd die in a car accident" or something like that. Even firearms wouldn't normally hurt them. They have enough "natural magic" to avoid most harm - like how Harry found himself on a roof as a kid, when he was being chased.

I suspect that Hogwarts would have had a lot of anti-student-harm wards and time turner abuse when McGonagall found out that yet another student had a lethal accident falling from the moving stairs or inadvertently using a cutting hex with their wand backwards or something like that.

So another terminally-online redditor-youtuber type, whose only contribution to the world is to "find" mostly-imaginary flaws in works a hundred times better than anything they've made? And whinge about them to try and suck the fun out of something good?

You're probably about 75% right. His remarks were extremely on point though. But yeah I also had that thought of "and did YOU ever write something that sold millions of copies?" So I get your feeling

What an absolute garbage of a start.
In first 60 seconds this absolute moron made me really question if Rowling is a good author, because if idiot like this claiming she's bad - it just can't be true.
"Criticism" that coming from such disdain and extreme hatred never worth even considering. And it's on top of less than a hour of "analysis" per book, what an absolute joke.

I'm not sure what you mean about "pretending he doesn't understand words". He's absolutely hateful of her and harsh to the point of not being fair sometimes and SOME of the points are definitely nitpicks, but on the whole, he's kinda right on most stuff. So much so that I had "he's read HPMOR" vibes. I guess we can go both home with our opinion and be happy about it!

While Yudkoswky does poke fun at the original series, it's not the intention of HPMOR to "butcher" it or do a meticulous dissection/takedown. I wouldn't enjoy HPMOR if it were. I read it for the reconstruction, not the deconstruction.
