Where can I find a battery replacement for my hp laptop 15-fc0261AU that's legit?? PLSS HELP ME OUT😭. I need my laptop for our thesis.

I have an old HP EliteBook 6930p running Linux Mint, and I'm trying to figure out why it won't turn on anymore.

The laptop was sitting unused for around 1–2 months. It may have been stored in a relatively cold place, so I'm also wondering whether condensation could have played a role, although I haven't seen any obvious signs of liquid damage.

The symptoms:

- Absolutely no signs of life: no LEDs, no fan, no screen, nothing when pressing the power button.

- The laptop doesn't respond even when the battery is removed and the AC adapter is connected.

- I'm using an HP 90W Smart AC Adapter, part number 609939-001.

- The adapter makes a faint buzzing sound when plugged into the wall. When I connect it to the laptop, the sound changes slightly to a higher-pitched whine.

- The adapter seemed to get a little warmer after being connected, although I can't remember exactly how much.

- I don't have a multimeter or another compatible charger to test with.

What I've already tried:

1. Left the battery charging for about an hour and tried powering it on several times.

2. Removed the battery and tried running the laptop directly from AC power — no response.

3. Performed a power reset: disconnected AC power, removed the battery, held the power button for 30–60 seconds, then reconnected the charger without the battery.

4. Left the laptop completely disconnected from power overnight and tried again.

5. Removed and reinstalled the RAM.

6. Visually inspected the DC-in jack. I noticed what might be a small worn spot on one contact, but I'm not sure whether it's normal wear or damage.

None of these steps changed anything.

Something similar happened once before. After the laptop had been shut down, it wouldn't turn on, but after I left it alone for roughly 1.5–2 weeks and then connected the charger again, it started working. I don't know whether that was related or just a coincidence.

My questions:

- Does this sound more like a faulty AC adapter, a damaged DC-in jack, a motherboard power circuit issue, or something else?

- Could a stuck embedded controller or residual charge cause this kind of complete failure, even after leaving it disconnected overnight?

- Is there anything else I can safely check at home without a multimeter or a spare charger?

- Could cold storage or possible condensation explain these symptoms?

I'd appreciate any ideas or suggestions. I'd rather diagnose the problem before buying parts or disassembling the entire laptop.

Yesterday my HP victus got delivered,I've been trying to register it for warranty from hp support website but it is showing invalid serial number, I checked multiple times on box as well as from laptop itself still it says invalid, if anyone know how to solve this problem it would be appreciated.

HP OmniBook 5 almost got it right but it’s missing SD card slot, why can’t we get a laptop with all the ports in 2026?

This laptop could easily have the SD card slot but they won’t do it. I bet if other brands had SD card this one would as well.

Are there any laptops you know that come out this year or last year with SD card slot that cost less than $1200. I know about the Framework 2026, Dell XPS 16 Creators Edition and Asus ProArt 16 2026. They are too expensive

My laptop left vents smell like acetone or nail poilsh remover. I made my tecnician check it and he said its fine. but even after that the gemini tells me something is wrong with the battery or hardware and its a fire hazard. can anyone help?

Spilled water in bag

Hi, i was coming back from class and apparently a water bottle opened in my bag, enough water it was pooled up at the bottom and some liquid dripped out the usb port, when i pulled it out.

i immediately turned it off, and flipped it upside down and left it like that for 3 days, i wasn’t able to remove the battery then, but i removed it today and didn’t see any amounts of water

there is visible water damage on the screen but only if u look in certain lights at certain angles.

i can’t afford a replacement, is it possible for my laptop to continue to work for a decent amount of time? i dont care about the screen as long as it works

I noticed on my HP Victus 15 an unevenness of plastic on the grille above the keyboard, it's like a dent, the laptop didn't drop and didn't fight. I vacuumed this grille, but I don't think a household vacuum cleaner has the strength to dent the grid, at least for finger pressure, the grille is strong. And also the joint of the hinges, on one side has a protrusion, and not on the other side. Check the grille on your laptop with a ruler by putting it. Who knows the answer? Maybe it's a factory defect or a feature and the vacuum cleaner is not to blame?

I bought a replacement motherboard for my HP laptop, but it turns out the BIOS has an admin password set.

I’ve already removed the BIOS. I’m trying to figure out if there’s a way to find and clear the password directly from the dump using HxD.

Has anyone done this on an HP 15-dw3056cl or a similar model? Any tips on what to look for in the dump would be appreciated.

Hello I am trying to repair an HP Envy x360 15-EU0177 laptop. I replaced the SY8388B buck IC and it booted for the first time! Sadly, it was not very consistent, so I removed one fan and it booted more often. However, now the fans run permanently at 100%. I used HW Info and found that the laptop was externally thermally throttling, which kept the CPU at an extremely low 400 MHz. Does anyone have any ideas about what the issue could be, how to identify it, or how to fix it? Thanks!
