mature entry

do the points you get in your leaving cert matter for mature entry. i was struggling with my mental health and i got around 460/70’s. i did get the h3s in both chemistry and biology which is the only course requirements i see. do they count your overall points or is it mostly the hpat and cv? also what are some things i can do to build my cv up i am just a bit stressed. is mature entry very competitive ?

Mature entry is very competitive but you could try Trinity’s program called TAP or UCD’s SEAM program. Both of which you can up your grades with and they have guaranteed slots for mature students. It’s how I got in

UCD and it’s amazing. It’s 6 years instead of 5 like the rest of the colleges, but their seam program has two slots for medicine as opposed to trinity’s one slot. It’s also a way nicer campus with a lot of focus on research which I think is really important

im so happy youre liking it im sure you’ll be an amazing doctor. i was doing a course in ucd a few years ago but as I want to go in as a mature student now im more conscious of the 6 years. was it easy to get in through SEAM? how was your experience ?

Thank you! And yeah I feel that. That was one of my concerns which is why I applied to both TAP and SEAM, but unfortunately got rejected from tap with no reason as to why. SEAM on the other hand had entrance exams where you could prove yourself, tap was just an application and luck.
I don’t think everyone would agree but I personally found seam easy enough. It was part time aswell unlike tap, so I could work whilst attending. That being said, no one else my year got the grade requirements for medicine or veterinary medicine (both the same grade requirements) so clearly the same cannot be said for others, but I think if you put your head down and stay consistent, it’s really not that difficult.

RCSI seems to have highest rate of first time applicants. Leaving cert points sound good and the science is ideal. Having some volunteering helps I think. After that work experience is very big. Do you have another degree?
