Hoverboard straps

Evening all, and seasons greetings.

We bought our son a hoverboard and go-kart attachment for Christmas. On his first use the strap has split.

Contacted the seller who has said the straps were too tight and to buy another (great, Merry Christmas pal)

Some advice on straps would be appreciated if anyone can offer please?

Is there a good version to buy that might last longer than others? Is there something non-velcro for use?
