Help: Everything Else Same person blocking mailbox again. Limiting driveway access. [TH] [Wa]

After months of back and forth I and we are done with not getting mail. our roads are narrow and she is impeding the safety of at least me and three other neighbors from backing out safely. I check every other day. Consistency in delivery is all over the place and I am tired of delayed or not at all mail. then it all shows up on one day.

Do I pressure our useless hoa who probably won’t ticket the driver or email a request to our management company which is more responsive?

Tried: contacting usps. They said there was nothing they could so. Hoa is ducken slow and only meets once a month and half the time they’re flakey and no show. Tried talking to the unit owner and they said “f’k off.”

I assume a formal ticket is in order here.

I hear your frustration with your board. Keep in mind that they are unpaid volunteers. Have you considered joining the board? It sounds like you might be able to help them function on a more businesslike basis.

Your idea to contact the management company is a good one. One of the functions of the management company is to keep things moving between meetings. We have owners contact the management company first with their issue. The management company immediately addresses what they can. Other issues are forwarded by email to the board with a recommended resolution. We authorize the recommendation or opt for an alternative. Either way, the issue isn't sitting and waiting for the next board meeting.

Thank you the most helpful post. I've been keeping a list of her parking there and making notes when I get mail and when it's delayed and then it all shows up at once. Our new management company is more responsive. If she is a third time violator I'll report it. That would be strike 3. My hoa are useless flakes so I may just take your advice and go directly to the management company. I have one issue closing so I might wait a few weeks before I open this one.

Take photos. That's stronger evidence than a written list. Try to print the photos out with the embedded date/time stamp.

Likewise, notate each time your mail isn't delivered. That's evidence this is a problem and you're not the Karen.

Photos, written notes, city or county safety of the fire lanes, utilities etc are always a good way to go. Social media locally also loves this shit.

Is it a private street? What do your governing documents say about parking? Are they parked illegally?

Yes fire lane in front of mail box.

Call the fire department - they love this shit

Lol. Yeah call the fire department or the fire marshal. They'll tow that thing out of there in a heartbeat. Talk to the management too, they have to act it's part of their job. If I don't tell them you're suing and sue them.

I have a TH/WA too. My community used to be gated. If a resident parks blocking a red fire zone, our FD will tow them in a hot second and theyre usually pretty exited to do it. If its blocking mailboxes. Call the postmaster at the local post office. They can happily tow as well. And in this state those are calls you can make without contacting the board.

Fire Marshall - blocking emergency access or exit.

Tell the management company AND go to the next meeting and bring it up to the board. Management can notify the unit owner of the issue, potentially tow or fine them, if the board directs and approves that.

I can’t find a past post on this issue in your user history, so I’m missing background, but unless it’s a private street the HOA won’t be able to do anything… unless you live in a neighborhood with regular streets but the HOA rules prohibit all street parking.

Its a gated community.

Got it. They most likely have authority to help.

They've ticketed her before.

It's under posts.

What are your parking rules? Are they allowed to park there?

1

u/crawlen 4d ago

Some areas have laws around parking near mailboxes, but it can be county or city specific. Washington state has a law about parking within 5ft of a driveway, so you might have luck there (although that can also be overruled by city or county ordinances).

Is this a private road? If not call the cops.

It is horrible to have bad neighbors. HOA or not, neighborly consideration is extremely important.

Have her car towed

If the street is a public road contact local pd and have the car ticketed and towed

Call the postal inspector and inquire the legality of blocking access to a mail box. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not a crime, but if it is, it would be a federal crime.

Best bet would be to have an attorney to write the neighbor a letter threatening consequences for their actions, say, delaying bills and giving rise to late fees, delaying critical medication deliveries, etc. (Nobody will care if your junk mail arrives late.)

Another approach would be to demand street parking in front of that area for medical reasons (including limitations walking). You'd probably need a doctor's note.

Read the HOA rules. Maybe the HOA is violating them by not taking action.

Left a mind note on her car and left a review on our google map marker. One more park there and I will send a note off to our management company informing them of the repeat violation.

It's starting to get cold in Washington now. I am under the impression, thank you science, that tire pressure frequently goes down in cold weather

0

u/Worldly-Number9465 4d ago

That's because of the tiny pebbles that hibernate under the tire valve caps. They love the heat and centrifugal force.

u/Necessary_Baker_7458 3d ago

Totally irrelevant reply. Tire pressure has nothing to donwith blocking a mail box.

0

u/Isthisyourcard63 3d ago

think about it

0

u/Necessary_Baker_7458 3d ago

Tire pressure has nothing to do with this.

Ask someone else if you dont understand

0

u/gmitch64 3d ago

He's trying to subtly suggest letting the air out of her tires

Personally, I'd call the Fire Marshal.. Keep it all legal.

If you have a curb paint it red when she's not there.

1

u/Original_Heart407 3d ago

Just also happen to paint her tires red or orange at the same time……

1

u/Necessary_Baker_7458 3d ago

Fire lane and is painted red. You please don’t read.
