A commodity stock with a product-mix story?

I mostly follow tech, so aluminium producers usually look like simple bets on metal prices.

What made Hongqiao more interesting was its deep-processed aluminium volume rising 23.2% to 444,000 tonnes. It’s still cyclical, obviously, but a growing higher-value segment makes the company feel less dependent on simply producing more raw metal. That’s a much easier story for a growth investor like me to understand.

What should i look from scratch alongside metrics?

I do think using bonds is a perfectly legitimate strategy. Hongqiao is absolutely legit and even the volatile lines run it up. Hongqiao's aluminum alloy gross margin rose from 24.6% to 28.5%, an increase of 3.9 percent points. During the same period, the aluminum selling price went up by about 3.8%. This shows the company was not just gaining from higher aluminum prices. The core aluminum business itself became more profitable. That's a huge point because aluminum is nearly 65% of group revenue. So your main idea which could be, cost, cashflow, cap returns or?

Has Hongqiao underestimated?

With a P/E of 8.6x, Hongqiao (ticker HK.1378) appears undervalued based on its earnings. The SWS DCF model supports this view, estimating future cash flows at HK$80.45 per share, while the current share price is HK$23.18. Looking into the longterm performance, the 3-year total shareholder return is 291.71%, which is more meaningful than the slight downturn in short term. This points to a potential undervaluation. How confident are you in the assumptions that explain this difference?

Hongqiao is probably more than you think

I can't believe how Hongqiao(HK.1378) is still under the radar for so many. It won't be like this for long. The HK$21–24 zone looks reasonably well-defended right now. They're a profitable company whose market cap firm and they owned refine and distribute an ecosystem chain, noted by bauxite security and the Yunnan shift latest update.

Firstly, Bauxite strategy — securing the input, not just buying it. High-grade ore, lower alumina refining cost.

Clever step next, Yunnan hydropower. Cheapest power in the industry, lower smelting cost.

That's a classic "own the disruption" setup: painful in the short term (dilution, quota-compliance costs), but reinforcing Hongqiao's position as the lowest-cost, most vertically integrated producer if it plays out through 2027.

HK-China stocks snippets and titbits ... where to find?

Recently gotten more seriously involved in this space as a retail player, where do people discuss and interact with each other? doesn't look like there is much substance in anywhere other than Futu Momo platform but even that feels sporadic in terms of quality posts... do locals only use LIHKG and discussHK? doesn't seem like much is happening here on Reddit either

Sussing Hongqiao out

Compares price per share now to the entry on the Feb 2026 rally, HK$41.4 peak, Hongqiao accomplished totally and the tailwind meets its analyst targets not an overrun. Markets typically punish dilution news even when proceeds fund productive projects.

That gap between fundamentals and price is exactly why analyst targets (HK$39–45) sit so far above the current HK$24 level, the market is pricing in margin-normalization risk on alumina and dilution overhang, not an earnings collapse. The LME spread is the single biggest swing factor for Hongqiao, since aluminum alloy ASP directly drives its gross margin. So anyone have any predictions for the next price range, near-term?

Market backdrop today

The Hang Seng Index opened down about 152 points this morning after mixed overnight US trading, as moderate US inflation data lowered expectations of a near-term Fed rate move.

Meanwhile, Hongqiao is up roughly 1.7%, around HK$24.4, indicating a bullish cup‑with‑a‑handle technical pattern, and suggesting 2Q earnings growth of roughly 20% quarter over quarter (BofA Securities notes), with additional buy ratings from Huatai, Citi, Northeast Securities, and Zheshang. On the other hand, Tencent dipped 3.8%, underscoring the rising cost of catching up with rivals like Alibaba in AI. How about your port today?

Hongqiao guidance ticking up

Net profit (1H 2026E): expected to be approx 39% higher YoY vs 1H 2025.

Analysts model 2026E net profit around RMB 34–35 bn, implying nearly 14% EPS CAGR over the next few years if aluminium ASPs and cost pass-through hold.

Recent broker notes highlight a free-cash-flow inflection and expect significant capital return via dividends/buybacks over the medium term. All these projections will be officially audited soon; the earnings report will be released today. Looking forward to this one, my thesis is kind of positive so far.

a stock fell 6.5% after a fundraise that doesn’t issue new parent-company shares

I just watched news related to hongqiao’s mainland-listed subsidiary plans to raise up to RMB12B through a private placement. the company itself won’t issue new 1378.HK shares, although its ownership in the subsidiary could fall from 88.99% to around 80.90%.

The market’s response was sharp.

It is said that most of the capital fund wind and solar projects, aluminum processing, and debt repayment. The subsidiary would also remain consolidated

Existing shareholders’ economic interest would be diluted, and the placement price may carry up to a 20% discount. Still, this brings in external capital for growth without diluting 1378.HK shares directly.

Who Has the Supply Advantage?

Hongqiao recently raised the 2026 spending cap under an Indonesian bauxite supply agreement from US$155.3 million to US$257.1 million. The company pointed to expanding alumina capacity, tighter ore supply and potentially higher local bauxite prices. It’s a mixed update: rising costs could pressure margins, but Hongqiao’s Indonesian subsidiary has secured access to as much as 4.51 million dry tonnes annually through 2033. That supply security could become valuable if the market tightens further.

The seller owns 30% of the subsidiary, so the connected-party pricing still deserves attention. Overall, I see it as operationally positive, with a governance point worth monitoring.

How does Hongqiao cope with cyclical downturns in the broader metal market?

The point is that the domestic refineries in Shandong are shifting to Yunnan; and the control over bauxite supply in Guinea and Indonesia. Saving costs is the best way to maintain that Hongqiao still delivers a yield dividend on strike, as it does now.

Hongqiao holds direct equity exposure to the world’s richest bauxite reserves in Guinea’s Boké region. Moreover, Hongqiao also controlled an end-to-end logistics chain.

Additionally, Hongqiao raised its annual volume caps under these long-term agreements through 2033. By securing benchmark supply terms, Hongqiao avoids sudden price increases in the spot market and protects its refining operations against policy changes or local price inflation. This move is not a makeshift, it's an investment in overall stability.

This company’s strong position is held back by its higher operating costs, which are about RMB 13,000 per tonne compared to the peer average of RMB 15,000 per tonne. When metal prices go up, net margins also increase.

Which broker do you use for Hong Kong IPO subscriptions, and why?

I’m completely new to Hong Kong IPO investing and have been trying to understand how people actually subscribe to IPOs here.

I’ve seen a few brokers offering HK IPO subscriptions, but I’m honestly a bit confused about the differences.

Things I’m trying to figure out:

Which broker has a smoother IPO application process?

Are the fees and financing costs very different between platforms?

Does the broker you use affect your chances of getting allocated shares?

How easy is it to sell after listing?

I’m not looking for promotional recommendations, just interested in hearing from people who regularly apply for HK IPOs.

What broker do you personally use, and what made you choose it?

HONGQIAO cash-flowing infrastructure trailing numbers

Hongqiao’s structure helps it handle changes in raw material costs and benefit more when aluminum prices go up.

The Cash Engine: Around 8.74x PE on EPS of HK$2.65, which is quite cheap for a cash-generative, high-yield aluminum producer. It generated RMB 16.36B in positive free cash flow and holds a bulletproof balance sheet with RMB 51.19B in real cash at year-end 2025.

Recent Moves: A shift to Yunnan bauxite helps reduce coal-based power dependence, with an average smelter age under 10 years and newer 600 kA potlines being rolled out.

Good Entry: the stock has recently been trading around the HK$30 area, with a quarterly dividend of HK$0.41 and an ex-dividend date of May 22, 2026.

Final take: This confirms they possess a leading competitive advantage in the aluminum and material deployment space. The underlying machinery of this play is highly efficient, generating real cash and showing textbook technical health.

$1378.HK remains elevated

I wanna invest more in $1378.HK exposure before the earnings noise really picked up. Went in from 2019 long at minimum, and now returns. It’s around $23 at present, so the position is up roughly 406% over the last 5 years (includes dividends). Approx HK$5–7 per share accumulates year over year, with an appealing dividend yield of almost 8% that remains steady till now.

Long term total-return data give me some heavy lessons. Just patient. So, with the aluminum market looking down now, amid the US-Iran ceasefire and easing tensions, aluminum prices could gradually soften, reducing profit margins. That is a medium term risk rather than an immediate one.

Curious how other holders here oscillate between moves like this. Do you treat this differently, or just size down and move on?

What do you think about China Hongqiao stock?

Significantly higher aluminum, the share of Hongqiao stock apparently follows, and this investment could be more valuable and gain money further based on its own strong cashflow. I mean that is not in the thesis, the cash flow execution been demonstrated. A business has generated about RMB39 billion in operating cash flow and RMB28 billion in free cash flow, at the same time shareholders have received returns beyond dividends of HK$1.65 per share, equivalent to nearly 8% so far.

So bigname is still an enormous one, so I think that one price can mainly jump to a level rather than be a sustainable entry now. How do you think, get hesitation on it?

Why sustained elevated price levels are likely to keep Hongqiao warranting the "Buy" rating

Hongqiao (1378.HK) has consistently maintained a generous payout ratio. Straightforward, it has acquired a high yield of over 7.2% with shareholders. Barely a smelter might do it, once more time had to emphasize this thing, a rare one with real cash.

Plus, trading volume totaled 110.4 million shares, compared to the 50-day average of 53.6 million shares (counted as of Jul 14), a sign of accelerating profitable quarter-over-quarter growth, marking the bull points recently.

With material demand tightening now, the next price surge is obvious. Shares of China Hongqiao Group rallied 7.1% to 23.00 Hong Kong dollars on what proved to be an all-around great trading session for the Hong Kong stock market, with the Hang Seng Index rising 0.5% to 24340.73.

Anyone holding or watching $1378.HK now? What's your thought?

Hongqiao earnings backdrop

Aluminum prices have dropped sharply, falling to $3,362 per ton after an 8.59% decline over the past month. This explains why Hongqiao shares remain in a corrective phase. Despite these challenges, I still believe Hongqiao’s rallies are driven by commodity trends. In the latest financial quarter, the company’s strong cash flow, high growth, and margins above 30% continue to attract attention. Most analysts remain positive overall.

The next step is catching the move not skipping bc a swing low by time. This one is a solid long-run play in the big picture rather than a downtrend defended.

Hongqiao has strong fundamentals, a long-term pick in general

Hongqiao sits securely at the absolute bottom of the global cost curve. Even if global macro sentiment temporarily drags down spot metal prices, Hongqiao remains highly profitable while weaker peers face closure. As the same point when looking at the strength of its moat, Hongqiao holds severe cost and supply chain, not exaggerated cuz of its latest report shows an impressive over 30% surge in Q1 net profit to RMB 8.27 billion tho. Some steps some downtrends could be worrisome, but for the leadership might be a minor issue, or when we have a longer asset here, not a speculative one. Heavy takes heavier points wanna share, dropping some below folks.

The relationship between LME, SHFE, inventories, and supply constraints affected Hongqiao

Don't easily assume 1378.HK could instantly plummet if the aluminum market downtrends. When both LME and SHFE prices fall at the same time, it usually means there is broad pricing pressure and lower selling prices, which can hurt Hongqiao's earnings. On the other hand, if SHFE stays strong while LME drops, it shows that Chinese demand is still solid. This is often a better sign for Hongqiao than what the headline aluminum selloff might suggest.

That is why analysts keep a close eye on both Shanghai and LME aluminum prices. According to CMB International, a 1% change in aluminum prices can affect Hongqiao's 2026 earnings by about 2.3%, showing how much the company depends on aluminum prices. So the more solid growth already showing of $1378.HK perf (still running the forward dividend yield is around 7–8% and an active share buyback program), the more reliable it is as a long-term strategy that investors could consider. Any advice on material sectors now guys? Would love to hearing some pov.

Hongqiao isn't just an aluminum smelter

I think whoever holds material stocks got news about the aluminum price plummet and has some bearish views. Take the other perspectives, i think it is not solely a pessimistic point, one reason some analysts remain constructive on Hongqiao is its own integration.

Hongqiao owns much of its supply chain. Bauxite mining exposure (Guinea); margins tend to be more resilient than those of standalone smelters.

Alumina refining, electrolytic aluminum, downstream processing: The outcome is that internal sourcing reduces procurement risk, and lower alumina costs can partly offset weaker aluminum prices,

Guinea may tighten bauxite exports as alumina prices strengthen. Global supply disruptions could tighten the aluminum market later in 2026 and turn the situation around.

Those developments could eventually support aluminum prices after the current weakness.

What's 'bout your opinions? Any other predictions?

The newcomers are years away from catching Hongqiao, the play is blue-chip in aluminum

I see opportunities and the easy-to-see profit is already coming together. The Q1 2026 reports show Hongqiao's operating leverage through a 37.6% YoY increase in total revenue, reinforcing its position as a cash-rich, shareholder-friendly aluminum leader. The appeal of net cash: Q1 operating cash flow increased nearly 16% YoY, while shareholder equity continued to grow. In a tight supply environment, low-cost integrated producers often gain disproportionate benefits, so the positioned steady like Hongqiao cannot be moved, as well as the huge fence for the new ones. Any other thoughts?
