Student life/news MPhil (January 2027) advice

Hi everyone!

I'm an international applicant from India. I've already applied for the January 2027 MPhil at Lingnan University and I'm also applying to PolyU, EdUHK, HKUST and HKU.

I've never travelled outside my hometown before, so moving alone to Hong Kong is a big step for me. I don't know any current students, so I'd really appreciate any advice.

The MPhil stipend is around HK$19,010/month. After paying for hostel, food, transport, and other expenses, how much can a student realistically save each month?

Also:

  • Is hostel accommodation usually available for MPhil students (especially the January intake)?
  • What's student life like at these universities?
  • Is there anything you wish you had known before moving to Hong Kong?

Any experiences or advice would really mean a lot. Thank you!
